***Official*** 2018 World Cup thread (and Drinking Guide) (1 Viewer)

The last 18 months or so, when ever a list of the best young field players was listed, it was typically Mbappe, Dembele and Pulisic.

The gap between MBappe and the other two is enormous.

That does not make the other two bad players obviously, but instead I think we are all watching the heir to Messi and Ronaldo here as the worlds best player.

   same as an American football team going to straight dives up the middle to run the clock out.

Well at least Belgium dicked around for 65 minutes and did absolutley nothing with their best chance at a World Cup.

Such an ugly ending. Time wasting, diving, games, not knowing the time remaining, etc.

“Rugby is a hooligans’ sport played by gentlemen. Soccer is a gentlemens’ sport played by hooligans.”

I may or may not have had a financial interest in Belgium. :bag:

In retrospect, Belgium had a weird MF set up with Chadli, Witzel, :fro:  , and Dembele

A lot of bulk, but not enough creativity.

And, of course we all knew Lukaku does not score in big matches... :P

No it isn't.

NFL players used to milk injuries too at the end of games either to milk clock or try to get a clock stoppage. So the NFL stepped in and changed the rules.

FIFA would do well to do something to stop that ridiculousness as well.

The better team won, but the sport really would be better without the diving and milking injuries.

Terrible analogy. There is a play clock and they’re playing well within the spirit of the rules in doing so.

Mbappe displayed disgusting sportsmanship.

Its awful, agree. Basketball has fouls to regain possession, football has runs/timeouts, and soccer has time wasting. They all suck in their own awful way.

I agree with this.  If you get a yellow card for time-wasting, another full minute should be added to the stoppage time IMO.  You fake an injury, 3 more minutes to the official stoppage time.  That #### would stop real fast.

Mbappe displayed disgusting sportsmanship.
There is a penalty system in place for his actions. He weighed the risk reward and took a yellow card. You've never seen an intentional delay of game?

And I'll take those antics over the free throw fest that ends most basketball games any time.

Ok. Now solve kneeling to end a game (the definition of time wasting) and icing the kicker in football. Also take a crack at the basketball fouls.

I am more interested in fixing the issues in the sport I love rather than fixing the issues in sports I don't.

All sports have plenty of issues to fix IMO but I think we can all safely admit with out a denigration to the sport itself that FIFA does not give two ####s about any of this stuff.

Or they could just show the game clock, and stop it when appropriate.
