***OFFICIAL 2018 YANKEE THREAD*** Gleyber Day (1 Viewer)

Lead the league in run differential so this is not some fluke. Judge looks like a star.

I'm in complete shock. I really didn't think judge would be so good.

I Am too. Still cautious on him. Let's see if he can adjust to the adjustments to come. But you do love that he so often puts a nice easy swing but he's so damn big, like a frank Thomas, that the ball just goes.

I also really love didi and I hope he's here for the long haul

I'm confident didi would have been an all star this year if he didn't get hurt

I also like how Joe is keeping judge batting low. Why put extra pressure on him especially with the veterans hitting so well. Didi should bat 3rd, Sanchez 2nd imo

Jeeezus, even when they lose they make their opponents squeeze out every last drop of sweat to beat them.

For all of those people who hated on Girardi over the years, LOOK at this season. This is what he's always been good at. He takes young teams and develops them faster and better than anyone else. He did it with that Marlins team (then the owner fired him :lmao: ), and he's doing it now with this Yankees team.

And we still have our "best" player on the bench with a biceps strain!

Also we've found our starting right fielder for the next 10+ seasons. Judge is turning into a franchise foundation type player. I'm not saying this will happen, but I can see him maturing into the next Yankees captain. He has the character; he's just a great great kid who is universally loved in the lockerroom. I bet he'll develop the leadership skills as he matures over the next couple years.
It's already happening, apparently. Give it a year or two, but everyone says he has "Jeter" chemistry.

The Mitchell at 1b experience was bizarre

ALL RISE!!!!

Been a fun ride with Judge.  Hope he's able to sustain similar production for the season and get over 40 HRs.  Could see him ending up with a ton of walks at this rate too.  They've already been pitching around him.

Plus, we get the Kraken back at Wrigley on Friday!

If Sanchez starts off well, Girardi would be wise to bat them back-to-back for protection. Walk Judge, you get Sanchez, or vice versa.

ETA: or use Holiday that way too.

Id bat Sanchez 2nd, didi 3rd, holiday 4th, judge 5th

Judge had bird hitting behind him for a while, which didn't help. Baltimore pitched around late Saturday and Sunday.

Just gotta make sure there's a tough out behind him.

Business wise the fans haven't connected to a player in years outside Jeter, who still is the top selling Yank and who's number ceremony is coming up.  Sanchez sparked and moved the needle last year and into this one...but still seems like the fans were tentative.

But Judge looks like he's about to explode. Retail is going from 0 to 100. We'll see how fans buy and he's green, but man he's a marketers dream (like Jeter).

This whole line of young players is going to explode like that.

Didi is becoming a fan favorite too, both because of solid play, and because he's a funny guy with a great personality. It just took longer because he replaced #2 at SS. But when he returned from injury this season the stadium gave him a big applause. Unfortunately he not be around long though. Rumor is when Torreyes is ready, the Yanks plan on trading Didi for a starting pitcher. I hope not. I hope to hell to find a way to turn Torreyes into a 3B or something. I love Didi's spunk and charm. He's a solid hitter in the lineup, a very good defender at short, and fantastic guy in the clubhouse, not a leader so much as that guy who helps keep everyone loose (sort of like Swisher did). Great teams need that guy IMO.

#24 and #99 will be the face of the franchise though, definitely. It's happening before our eyes.

I'd much rather they shift Castro to 3rd and let hedley go. Play Torres at 2nd.

Apparently he's working at all 3 positions down in Trenton.

They definitely need a pitcher but I hate to give up Didi. He's a player

I like this, but I'd much rather they throw the bank at Machado to play third next year and beyond.

ETA: I don't know if Castro could handle the hot corner either. He isn't exactly a defensive stalwart out there. On his best days he's a serviceable 2nd baseman.

Didi isn't going anywhere. Torres will replace castro at 2b. Castro isn't anything special,  he's having a great season so far but there's enough of a sample size to know what they have in him.

Girardi needs to stop batting Hedley behind Judge. Hedley is terrible, so pitchers are blatantly pitching around Judge because they know they can get Hedley out instead.

They need to move Judge to 3rd and bat Holiday 4th to protect him. Then let Castro bat 5th.

He's done so.  Last night you had the double-whammy of Didi and Sanchez needing a night off.  That removed Didi from the six spot and bumped Hicks from 7 to 2.  I'm a fan of the current line-up with the normal regulars of Garder, Sanchez, Holliday, Castro, Judge, Didi, Hicks, Headley, Carter/Ref.

Psssssh.  What do I know!  They went with @flysack's line-up today!

1. Brett Gardner (L) LF

2. Gary Sanchez (R) C

3. Aaron Judge (R) RF

4. Matt Holliday (R) DH

5. Starlin Castro (R) 2B

6. Didi Gregorius (L) SS

7. Aaron Hicks (S) CF

8. Chase Headley (S) 3B

9. Chris Carter (R) 1B

Nice!

ETA: It's good to see Girardi shy away from his need to go L-R-L-R, etc. and bat players according to ability instead. The first 7 of that lineup can all do serious damage.

I would love it if Torreyes (sic?) speeds through AAA to play 3rd by August. Hedley is one of the only holes in that lineup - an almost automatic out. Replacing him is a must. At least Carter is a threat to go long, even if he can't hit for average pitchers have to respect his power. He's only an injury replacement anyway.

Stat I never in a million years could have predicted:

Brett Garner and Matt Holiday have the hit the same number of homeruns.

If someone back in April told me this would happen, I'd have immediately thought Holliday was a FA bust.

But they've both hit 12HRs.

Garner on the roids!

(Prob late career power surge, but he did play with A-rod....)

Cubs reliever Hector Rondon, who gave up to Gardner the 3-run jack in the top of ninth, with two outs and two strikes basically admitted he didn't put much on the pitch because he didn't think Gardner was worth the effort.

It's gotten to the point where they need to sit Hedley and play the supermidget Torres full time at 3rd.

Hedley is a wasted AB. He's costing them games by leaving runners on base.  I'm sure they can't send him to AAA, but he should be sitting on the pine.

Tyler Wade playing well at AAA too.  Time to send down Ref and start Tyler at 3B.  Little early yet for Gleyber.

Somehow ended up with judge, Holliday, Sanchez and severino on my squad.  Really impressed so far.

They need to add a pitcher imo
