If the playoffs started to today, Joe would have to start Severino. If Tanaka can fix himself (AGAIN), he has potential to be a good #2, with Pineda at #3? Does anyone actually trust Pineda yet? I don't. Except for Severino, it seems like this staff is fine at shutting down mediocre & struggling lineups, but a good one like the Os tends to crush them.
ETA: even if Sanchez gets hot (and he will), and we get Bird back at 1st and call up someone at 3rd, I still think they're a dominant starter or two away from a WS run. Severino is looking like he'll be our frontline guy for a long time. After him? Pineda scares me. Tananka is a crap shoot. Sabathia is having a hard-working admirable late career, but his ceiling is a good #3, like Pettite was in '09.
Imagine this starting lineup for a divisional series -
1. Severino
2. Pineda
3. Sabathia.
4. Tanaka? Montgomery?
It's not bad, but it won't carry us past the Astros.
