*Official 2020 Philadelphia Eagles Thread* Humanity will never recover from the most horrible event to happen in the last 100 years: Doug Pederson pla (1 Viewer)

WAY to doom and gloomy for week 1. Pretty much gaurentee Dallas loses a game somewhere along the line they shouldn't. If they DON'T, we had no chance anyway
Mike McCarthy is their HC. A guy Aaron Rodgers won the Super Bowl in spite of. McCarthy can't ride the coattails of one of the top QBs in the last decade anymore though. McCarthy's playing calling was atrocious from what I heard from GB fans and all. I spent a lot of time with GB fans on other boards as my old Keeper league Rodgers was my QB all the way through until I got Wentz and would switch them depending on match ups. Rodgers relationship with Mike wasn't great either and it got to the point the last year and a Half together A-Rod was so disgusted by the play calling he'd be like F It and override the plays in the huddle. He knew out of the them both Mike was the one the franchise would dispose of so he was able to get away with it. GB won a lot of games they shouldn't over the years thanks to Rodgers and ineptness of McCarthy. There's a reason after he was fired in GB there wasn't much interest in him. Did Dal upgrade at HC? To an extent yes but it's not as big as some people think. Min Elliot goes down this year and Dal has to rely solely on Dak and the WRs you'll see what kind of team they are. Their Oline has question marks to not just from injuries but key guys retiring too.

MM isn't the worst coach in the NFL but he's incredible overrated and won't have the best QB to bail out his terrible play calling this year. If it's not the players that cost them a win they should have it'll be McCarthy's ineptness. Personally the dude is a heck of a person. But as a coach his best spot is as some teams OC where the HC makes most of the play calling on offense

I am under the impression MM is not calling plays and its Kellen Moore, from my people from the Dark Side...

i really want to see how they play vs a normal line.  wash dline is fantastic.
It’s hard to say actually. They looked good but I’m wondering how much of that was due to us starting 2nd and 3rd stringers and not having a pre-season. There was a LOT of bad OL play this past weekend. I also thought DelRio did an amazing job against Doug

What’s the timeline on Lane coming back?
Says he’s playing this week

During the game the announcers said the Moore would be calling the plays and that McCarthy was good with that.

There is no reason for load management in football. You go hard once a week for 16 weeks. What are you saving him for? Injuries still happen if you play it safe.

Sure, let me re-live that in slow-motion detail and then I'll go watch the Jurevicius TD and Barber pick-six from the 2003 NFC Championship game, too.  :X
It was actually pretty interesting and I learned a lot about O-line play. But I understand if it's hard to watch haha

Maybe kind of like an old pass rusher who comes in, goes hard for a couple plays, takes a breather......send DJax over the top a handful of times a game.  We've seen what happens when Wentz has time to hit DJax over the top.

I'll admit my selfish reasons as I have DJax in a best ball kind of setup where long TD's are big points......really seems like that's his only value moving forward........right?

Doug in his presser today:

  • Lane, Miles, Barnett all should practice today, but will see if they can go full.
  • Hargrave's status: Getting closer to practicing. No timetable. We'll get him back when we get him back.
  • BG still in concussion protocol.
  • No lingering injury for Wentz from what he missed time in camp for, didn't affect play calling/keeping him in the pocket.
  • Herbig is the starting RG, Driscoll the RT if Lane can't go. But sounded like if Lane goes, Driscoll moves to RG.
  • New guard Jamon Brown: Needs to get in the playbook, learn terminology, and coaches need to feel comfortable, before putting him out there.

  1. It looked like every other 2019 game plan, except with more deep shots down the field. Same WR quick-throw/screen attempts that get -1 yard (or are dropped), same stuck-in-mud screen game, same leaving Wentz in the pocket, same calling run plays on 2 and 10 that set-up 3rd and long. It's now year 3 without Reich and Flip, with various offensive "minds", and Doug's the only common denominator.
In Week 1 the Eagles ranked 19th in motion-at-the-snap. Top 12 teams in motion-at-the-snap all won.

They were also 27th in total plays with any motion (pre-snap or at the snap.)

This offense has not evolved since 2017 and we continue to fall behind the league. To me, it is the most frustrating thing about the last two years and here we are again this season. Is it coaching staff stubbornness? Is it they don't have the personnel that can execute? WTF??

Baldy just ripped the defense a new one. Said they were horrible. Wondered why do we have Slay and then play him 11 yards off the ball. I agree. Schwartz sucks.

I've been quick to criticize him in the past, but not really a good week to rip the D when they gave up the least amount of total yards and yards per play in Week 1, had the second fastest sack (Sweat's strip sack), and Slay held McLaurin to something like 3 for 27 when in man coverage and we played the most man coverage of any game in Schwartz's tenure.

Yeah, Schwartz has a "bend but don't break" approach to his D, but when you put the D in mostly "don't break" situations because you're letting the other team start most of their drives in your own territory, you're going to have to expect some breaking. WFT’s first six drives started from behind its own 27-yard line and the D gave up 0 points. Then six of their last nine possessions started on the Eagles' side of the 50 with WFT scoring on five of those six short field drives.

Miles and Lane both got in FULL practices.  I'd assume they both play.

Starting to get really excited for Sunday.  Feels like last week was a pre season game and now we're at home, healthi(er), and hopefully pissed off.  Also we're underdogs again which is great.

Same.  Should be a good atmosphere either way bc I think Philly might be a little ready for this.

Right

Until he gets hurt again

Should've brought in Joe Brady when we had the chance

The Eagles opened the season with the most players in the NFL under 6-feet (15) and under 200 pounds (15).

Their average height was an NFL-low 6.13 feet, avg. weight was 241.75 pounds.

Avg. age was 26.09. They had 11 rookie/1st-year players, 9 players age 30+.

Horrible D calling that game. Eagle D not worth owning this year imo.
I mean I still got 12 points last week in my league due to yardage but yea. The lack of turnovers is going to be a pain. They will have some good matchups here and there though. It all depends on scoring in each league.

Anyone like Reagor to step up and start making some plays? What are we think this realistic development this year will be ?

going strictly by one catch and one non-catch plays I watched over and over on Sunday, i think his upside is DJax on his best year and then some. Both plays, the non-catch being the one where Wentz overthrew him and could have been a easy long yardage 6, looked exactly like his college highlight reel. This means three things to me: First, they are calling plays to get him open in space, so he'll have opportunities. Second, Wentz has the arm (we already knew that) and willingness (good and bad) to get it downfield if he has the time and Reagor looks to have the skills to hook up on these a couple times a game. Third, the only potential obstacle is a healthy and productive DJax, which doesn't seem like that big of an obstacle already, only one week in. with both Ertz and Goedert filling the middle as two of the best possession guys in the game, as long as the oline holds up decently Reagor should get his imo.

People overrate Schwartz with some of the stats they bring up. I'm more a realist on the defense and that defense has gotten lucky numerous times over the last few yrs under Schwartz. My big issues with JS is he doesn't seem to adjust, sticks with guys who aren't successful, fails to put his guys in a position to succeed, lack of aggression especially on 3rd and 4th and longs, take chances once in awhile on play calling, playing it too safe in games (TB and MIA games over the last few yrs prime examles of late scores and losing end of games), lack of chances created for a TO, relying too much on the front 4 for pressure, and horrible game planning.

He's also a guy who unless you are kissing his  :censored:  doesn't seem to be friendly with coaches who don't follow through. He's incredible stubborn as well. It comes a point in time where you can only blame so much of the defensive failures the last few yrs on personal and start asking questions of your DC and his scheme. Like I said my preferred choice is someone similar to Jim Johnson aggressiveness. Used Tod Grantham as just an example of that type. One of my big issues is his failure to make any adjustments to allow guys like Fletcher Cox easier time to dominate. His scheme does little to put guys in a position of success.

Yep lack of TO's is gonna be big in leagues. Also a little concerning at times where they don't show up and get their sacks. When they aren't getting pressure on the QB with the front 4 they are in trouble that game

I think most likely deep threat speed wise type player. Boom or bust most weeks. Considering our lack of developing WRs I'm not expecting much this year other then he gets ample playing time and opportunities.

Not to sound doomsday,  but I'm going to sound doomsday.  If we lose this week, we are 0-2 with our next 4 games being:

vs Cinci (who looked decent and have 10 days rest)
@ SF
@ Pittsburgh
vs Baltimore

I'm going to be super excited if we are 3-3 after 6 weeks.  The odds of 1-5 or 2-4 are pretty high though if we lose this week.

Lane Johnson, Miles Sanders, and Derek Barnett were all full participants yesterday, and will be again today. They are all expected to play Sunday.

Hargrave and Graham also practiced.  Giddy up.

Eagles 27
Rams 21

Good, coaches got cute thinking we could coast letting them rest week 1 on got spanked...time to get out there and plat.

Do we expect Reagor to start or mixing in off the bench?

Not traveling to 100% is remarkable.

Video of practice earlier in week still showed a hitch.
I trust the reporting and that he will play the "quotation marks" around 100% healthy remains to be seen what it means.

This was from David Chao (ProFootBallDoc) and is something to keep an eye on.

Yet, at the time, the prevailing thought was probably "There goes the season".
That was before Lane and Chris went on Amazon and bought the dog masks, though. ;)

We all did. Fortunately stuff went right and we got a lot of luck along the way. It's a miracle we stopped Julie 3 times in the RZ on the final drive in the Div game. No one gave us a chance vs the Vikings but honestly I think they were incredible overrated who we spanked and then our back up QB who's great Brady in not just a  :censored:  measuring contest but drew neck and neck with him in the SB. Oh yeah and it helped our coach has big brass balls
