*Official 2020 Philadelphia Eagles Thread* Humanity will never recover from the most horrible event to happen in the last 100 years: Doug Pederson pla (3 Viewers)

He's been awful this year. I thought the 52 yarder was bad - a 29?

Dont think we can cut him though, hes another one we paid big $$ too after the Superbowl

Eagles sports media seems to impossibly have gotten worse. Heaping praise every game how the best of the Eagles is how they are resilient and fight back has gotten old very quick. We have heard this quality for 3 years now, and it is a nice quality, but there is zero reason the Eagles should have fallen behind 21-10 to this horrible Giants team. Can't be happy because guys are still playing, that is how you end up being a mediocre team.

How about the wasted salary cap room, and lack of depth? How about the young players not growing. Stoutland deserves tons of credit, but what the hell is going on with Wentz going backward in his development.

and no Philly media, there is not a lot to be excited about.

The graphic Fox put up was insane too:

40 different staters (most in the NFL)

20 different starters on offense (most in the NFL)

6 different starting OL’s

All that in week 6. That’s is absolutely crazy.

Is that most in the nfl in  a season ever?  Or in this season only.

Either way it's insane .

Can we pay our respects to Djax as this is mostly likely the end of his career. It did t go well the 2nd time around and I will always hate Chip Kelly for cutting him. One of my favorite players for the Eagles.
And it happened while trying to repeat history: late in the game, trailing the Giants, about to receive a punt...

The sequel is never as good as the original.

I know last night was ugly, but here's some glass half full for your Friday morning. Warning, some clichés ahead. An ugly win is better than a pretty loss. Sure they looked a little better against Pitt and Balt, but they lost. There's no moral victory section in the standings. I also remember in 2017 it took an unlikely 64 yard FG from a rookie kicker to beat a bad Giants team. I'm glad Doug is being aggressive and liked his decisions to go for it or go for two (it's his play calls in those situations that are garbage, sorry, can't be all positive).

So I'm looking forward to finishing 6-9-1 and winning this garbage division and a playoff game against the Bears and Foles, because that will be fun.

Exactly on the going for 2. Analysts are trying to say it's the law of averages coming back to get you and they shouldn't go for it but that's wrong. You still should go for it but Doug has to call better plays. Go back and look at the ones that have worked before. You don't need to reinvent the wheel every single time. I would have run the same out that got the TD to Ward again. They didn't stop it the first time.

The Hurts plays need to chill too. Or if he’s in the game he can’t be given the ball every time. He looked very ordinary last night.
I would use him more but he has to be allowed to pass or else he's predictable. Running the option every time he's in there does nothing. You need to give him an RPO to run.

Even with the RPO’s I don’t see that big of an advantage. Teams know when he’s in to contain and even when preparing for us you have to keep an eye on Wentz on those same plays. Schematically it doesn’t change much if anything in their side.

I do agree that if he’s in there they have to let him pass more though. Just a traditional setup every now and than would help loosen things up.

Also I would use his speed. Get him running some Jet Sweeps. Or a screen pass. So frustrating that the opening drive had 2 screens for 10+ yards and then nothing for the rest of the game it felt like.

There’s a lot of that (things working than disappearing) this year. Look at how well Wentz does with the up-tempo. Doug uses it for the first drive and gets a TD and than not again until we’re down. Of course we can’t go full Chip but it can’t hurt to go tempo for a few plays just to get a rhythm going and keep the defense off balance. Or just hurry to the line and let Carson take his time to dissect the defense.

So Carson can make great throws, he can make really bad throws, and he can make some horrible decisions. I can take the bad throws with the good although over time I hope the bad throws become less and less. I can't live with the horrible decisions. He is in year 5 and should know you can't hit a home run on every play. Sacrifice some plays for the greater good. On the interception, when he threw it I thought, oh good, he is throwing the ball away, only to see he was heaving it up to a guy in the end zone that had 2 or 3 guys covering him.

Carson, hear me now: AN INCOMPLETION IS BETTER THAN AN INTERCEPTION OR SACK!!! ESPECIALLY IN THE RED ZONE!!!!!

Of course, the one time he tried that he got called for intentional grounding. My hope is if/when he has legit and healthy players around him he won't feel the need to be superman every play.

I agree. Head this bad with it in years past and much like Doug I get a sense of panic with him too. A sense that he HAS to make a play every play. At some point we do have to get him legit WR’s and I believe we are on the right path there.

On the topic of not having enough good plays for RZ and 2pt conversions, I liked that the Ward TD was the Foles/Avant play from the last-minute win in Tampa back in 2012. You already have an aging roster, so if you're having a tough time coming up with something to fill the call sheet just break out the hits and play the songs you know the people want to hear! Especially if your new stuff is going to be boring and unimaginative.

I think he’s getting some unnecessary heat on that one too. From what I recall the ball was off of his finger tips and wasnt as catchable as many are making it seem.
He didn’t leave his feet. Didn’t even look like he reached for it (maybe he miss judged it). But game on the line you got to go get that ball. You aren’t playing catch in warmups.

Some good quotes from various morning sports talk shows:

"That game for Eagles fans was like the movie Sully. When people asked them how their flight was, they said "well, it ended great, but the ride, not so much""

"Daniel Jones fell down on his long run because he was tanking for Lawrence. If they draft Lawrence, then Jones doesn't have to play for the Giants anymore"

"Daniel Jones has whopper junior hands. Not big enough to hold onto the ball"

my hope is that Doug is doing this to simply set up other teams and have them feeling like Hurts won't make any passes. save it for that 2nd Cowboys game when they may really need it or something.

glad you mentioned this. if we do want to try and go "glass half-full", i can get behind how the Eagles started the game. Looked really good on that first drive mixing a lot of things in and going higher tempo. I get they can't go that tempo entire game, but they if that high tempo is what helps them to be succesful then Doug needs to find a way to do it more throughout the game

Big W. Don't care how ugly it was. Important for Carson to keep growing with these young guys like Fulgham, Hightower and Scott. That catch by Hightower is going to boost his confidence, and some of these guys we are getting nice looks at like Mailata. Obviously, yeah you don't want all the backups in.

Doug needs to evaluate his play calling and stuff. He finds something that works and goes away from him which seems out of just to be stubborn.

Dallas here we come!

I’ll have to rewatch it but I don’t recall him being in a position to leave his feet. It looked like about an inch or so out of his reach from what I remember. Can you get a replay?

@modogg I agree but we can’t keep wasting plays for a chance at one to work IMO. His usage seemed forced to me this week

Injury roundup:
- Lane has grade 1 MCL sprain, won't miss long if any
- Reagor's cast is off, is catching passes, ahead of schedule
- TJ Edwards expected to return vs Dallas
- Djax won't need surgery, has chance to come back

That’s a tough one when it’s finger tips IMO. He’s a pro and should have but I don’t think it’s as egregious as many are making it seem. Would have been a tough catch
Yep, one of those "what an amazing catch!!" if he caught it, and a "he should have easily caught that!" if he doesn't.

Great coach.  Bad offensive mind.

We all complain about Schwartz (and with good reason), but this team is missing a great offensive mind at the OC position in the worst possible way.
