Official 2022 college football thread: its conference realignment season. (1 Viewer)

Feels like the game flipped a bit when Harrison went down

UGA played an incredible 4th quarter.
Yup, though his loss had nothing to do with OSU’s secondary being unable to cover downfield all season. Not sure their safeties made a play deep all year. Georgia made the plays when they had to because they are really good. OSU’s offense missing their top 2 receivers, top 2 RBs and top TE weren’t enough to overcome their defensive lapses.

Yeah, defense slipped for sure there. Just not good enough. Settling for FGs on those last two scoring drives hurt. Defense couldn't come up with plays in the 4th.

Also, not a fan of the play calling after the long Stroud run at the end there.

yeah, kill the head and the snake dies ...or something like that - took the guy out ...plain and simple
Dirty hit. Someone probably said if you get a shot take it.
After reading @BobbyLayne ’s link I realized I don’t know enough about college football rules to say whether that should have been called targeting, but even apart from the concussion that was a huge play in the game. It initially looked like Stroud was throwing the ball away, but on replay I believe without the hit, Harrison scores there

well, I think that all really takes care of everything.

No idea how that wasn't a penalty. I can see not calling targeting, but it was certainly a helmet to helmet car crash

I can’t trust a college K to make a 40-yard FG, yet they were playing for a 50-yarder.

In Day’s defense, he didn’t do the thing where OSU just ran it into the line a couple times and then had the QB skitter over to the right hash mark. They tried to get more yards, but Georgia held them. And once they were facing 4th down, kicking the FG was their best option

That's the way I read it, too.

Whelp, this thing's over. So is the Championship. Alabama ends up as the best team in the nation and OSU ends up with the trophy. Interesting.

LOL @ Kirby Smart choking at the end of the first half. No need to go for points there, play scared / not-to-lose instead. Hilarious.

All that cash can buy players but apparently, not balls.
AND THEN WHAT HAPPENED?

The pass in the slot was pretty scary, that could have been picked. I know the K is very good, it just didn’t work out.

Funny that Georgia fans were blowing up my Twitter because I disagree that they have far more talent than OS, the refs kept the Buckeyes in the game, lol.

I was wondering about 3 Year Letterman. It turns out he woke up in Dothan, Alabama and doesn’t know how he got there.

WHY is Michigan blitzing, why

Every big TCU play in the game came on the safety blitz. I get it there were always down, chasing points and needed to make something happen. The play that blew the game for Michigan was when they were down by 3 and had TCU on their heels and in a 3rd and 8. They called a safety blitz and Duggan got away and hit that short crossing route that turned into a 76 yard TD because nobody was left deep.

The TD reversal as we have heard every pundit say was wrong and Michigan did get screwed but why did they give the ball they a converted LB on first and goal instead of sneaking it or Edwards?

I don`t think Duggan will be a good NFL QB but he is a very good/great college type of QB and TCU has some great athletes on that team. That being said for fans watching not from Texas or Michigan it was a great entertaining game with lots of ups and downs to watch.

Felt bad for the OSU kicker. The guy went from being a tail gate folk hero forever in Columbus who came back every year to now probably never going back. Sad that one kick can change a players place in history. I mean 50 yarders are not gimmees but he did shank it.

What made my wife so upset that most of the OSU players shunned him after the kick. Not cool. Would feel so bad if that was my son.

Well Stroud almost got sacked back to the 50 on that play and there would have only been a hail mary. In retrospect OSU fans would take that now.

Yeah that sucks. What a game.

I hate all things Ohio State and even I felt bad for the kid

No, they were throwing on 2nd and 3rd down to try and get closer.

The bad news is Michigan is getting hammered and my family is sad and I am pulling for them but the good news is when I go to a game next year and the announcer does the pregame “we are the greatest program in history and we bow down to nobody” shtick I’ll still be able to roll my eyes a little.

Greatest program history? Doesn't Michigan have one National Championship in their history? That's asinine.
Crazy UM football stat.

Since Bo took over in 1969, Michigan is terrible on the last game of the season. They have only won 17 season-ending games and their record is 17-36-1! Not a good look for a "storied" program.

I'm flabbergasted that the replay booth could state with confidence that there was indisputable evidence that the Michigan player had full control of that ball before it crossed the plane of the goal line, despite the lack of video angles supporting the claim.

I just looked. OSU is like 21-29 or maybe worse the last game of the season in that same time frame. Tough to tell as some years the BIG did not go to bowls other than the Rose Maybe the BIG is just not that good or "storied."

As a Michigan fan, I'm bummed, but we got what we deserved.

- 4th and goal from the 2 on the first drive: Pound it in. (If not take the early three points.) Worst case, they're starting at the 1 or 2 yard line. But having a freshman TE try a pass to your QB? Why get cute?

- 1st and goal from the 1/2 (!) yard line: Pound. It. In. You've got the 'best' O-line in the country. Don't give it to a big defensive player acting as a RB. QB sneak it and have that guy come behind and push. So stupid.

- I get the blitzing, but as noted, they were getting burned by it ..and a lot of the blitzes were getting picked up. In that second half flurry of TDs, I believe TCU's long rushing TD came when Michigan blitzed on a second and 2. Bad idea.

- JJ McCarthy has had good success during the year when he runs and scrambles. I don't know why that didn't show up in the game plan until late in the game. They could have used some runs early on to try to open up TCU's 3-3-5 defense.

The refs didn't help. The long pass completed as the WR was falling into the end zone was a TD ...but no excuse for Michigan not scoring anyway. And that was targeting at the end. You could see the Michigan TE's head get snapped back by the hit. Not sure what would have changed, but hate to see that timid non-call at the end.

Props to TCU, though. The defense (esp. #13 and the D-line) played well in the early going and helped put Michigan in a deep hole.

Yea TCU caught a lot of breaks with Michigan not converting inside the 5 multiple times and then a pick-6. Georgia is going to absolutely hammer them most likely.

Just like Michigan was way better than TCU and tOSU was meh after Michigan killed them. We shoudl have just had Michigan Georgia and no playoff anyway they were so clearly the best!

Horrible take.

Do you think Georgia is going to fumble it on the 1, run an absolutely insane series inside the 5, then also throw a pick-6?

Tcu played well and deserved to win, but had a tremendous amount of fortune and Georgia is already way more talented than Michigan. I hope they win but they’re probably getting hammered. Line is -14.

I don't disagree that Georgia should be favored, probably by 10-ish. But that's why they play the games. If people don't like watching the games because they've already decided who the best teams are then why do we even have the sport? It's easily the single worst quality of college football fans.

Michigan was inside the 5, three times, and got 3 total points.
Alternately, TCU did a great job defending Michigan in the trenches when it mattered most, created havoc with pressure and defensive speed, and got so in their heads that they called one remarkably asinine TE trick pass play.

See how the storyline can change? Based only on how people want to present it?

I say this as someone who has no real ties to TCU or any of this "my conference is better I hope it wins bowl games" stuff that pervades the sport's fandom.

Just glad we finally got two great games in the same day.

2 pick 6s thank you!

I have not seen that team that stepped on the field all year until yesterday...completely unrecognizable on BOTH sides of the ball.

I photographed my alma mater's bowl game against RPI a couple of years back. Kid missed a 33 yard FG that would've sent the game to overtime. The picture I'll always treasure is the holder walking away with the kicker. They have their arms around each other.

The OSU kicker and holder reacted like it was the holders fault on the miss. Did he spin the ball the wrong way or something?

I want to know who the female Michigan fan was with the low cut top and chains around her neck? The camera crew was fixated and must have showed her 10 times.

It was JJ McCarthys girlfriend who was sitting with JJ's parents and his sister
He's talking about a different person

oh, description seemed to fit 🤷‍♂️
There was another that had on a v neck tshirt and some sort of fake gold rope chain with a giant M on it ala Flavor Flav

As a TCU alum and an Ohio St. homer/parent, I was so close to my (never in a million years thought to be possible) dream matchup in the national championship. What a roller coaster of a day yesterday was. I can not imagine a scenario where TCU comes out on top of Georgia, but hey, there's a reason they play the game. I'm just enjoying the ride.

You finally tried your dream, stand-up. And ended up on a cruise ship, bouncing around Panama, with the warm-up gig as a ventriloquist.

What in the world are you talking about? Discuss Tennessee next.
OMG, what in the world (so dramatic, lofl)??? You know exactly. Bama is the best team in the nation and we've instead got Georgia vs TCU.

Alabama would be favored against any team. Neat system. Some also-ran as a two TD dog? I don't like Bama so whatever, just saying they're better than what we're going to watch.

Still aghast? Hope you get over it!

They're so great they lost to LSU and Tennessee and barely beat Ole Miss, Texas and Texas A&M!
