Best time of the year for sports and to get a vasectomy. Rooting for the Jayhawks - they could win it or get bounced by anybody. Should be a fun tournament as usual.

On a side note, can the networks broadcasting the games please stop putting the camera on crying or distraught kids? In these days and times with social media bullying in schools this practice has got to stop.

Guess it's just me this year.   :kicksrock:

Anyway, looking forward to the games and......just gonna watch and stuff.......and, uh......see you guys later.......

Can't wait for Thursday!  Best sporting event of the year.  Right now I have Gonzaga/Kentucky/Tennessee/Kansas final 4.

I’ll be following along and betting on the games, gb. Neither my childhood team (Pitt) and my actual alma mater (Arizona State) were even good enough for the CBI so no real rooting interest outside of upsets and cash money.

I'm doing my draft tonight - 5 guys drafting 12 teams each in a snake draft.  Anyone got a good ranking cheatsheet?  I typically use KenPom or Sagarin.

Gonzaga follower here. Lots of people have them winning it all, but I have doubts. This team is not as good or consistent as last year and there are more obvious ways to game plan around them this year over last year. Just a gut feeling that S16 is a ceiling this year. Hope I’m wrong.

Also, from an analytics perspective,  there are some teams waaaaay over seeded this year.  Providence a 4, but their efficiency numbers suggest they should be a 12 seed.  Wisconsin another, they got a 3 but are as efficient as an average 8-9 seed.

On the other side, San Francisco with a 10 seed, but their efficiency suggests they play around the level of a typical 5 seed.  Loyola Chicago in the same boat.  Houston got a 5, but efficiency wise, they should’ve been the last 1 or a high 2 seed.

These mis-seedlings are likely a result of seeding partly based on nitpicking the teams’ resumes. But something to keep in mind when doing brackets.

@ClevTA: Not a shock but Providence is #1 in the country in kenpom's luck rating and the 2nd highest that has ever made the tournament in kenpom's database going back 20 years. The highest was Cleveland St last year who lost by 31 in round 1

San Fran and Murray State for absolutely screwed. I hate this committee more every year.

I have not watched any basketball all year. What are the most likely surprises opening weekend? Who are the unexpected teams most likely to make a deep run? My primary motivation to asking is less to win money, but more to drive a couple of my coworkers crazy who watch A LOT of college basketball and over react every year to the tournament.

Love me some March Madness.  I do miss going to Vegas with buddies to draft teams and then drink the first weekend away, but at this point I'd settle for just calling in sick tomorrow or Friday to watch.  Since I'm WFH tomorrow/Friday I'll just have it on while I "work".

I know parity is at an all-time high, and all of the "experts" say this year will feature double-digit seeds advancing well into the Sweet 16 and beyond, but I filled out a bracket last night for a free contest (hey, winner gets $150) through work and I couldn't bring myself to advance any lower seeds.  I don't have pure chalk but I do have mostly high seeds going deep.

Enjoy the next few weeks, all!

Haha, you are right that a few years ago, this would have been 4-5 pages by now.

I would have to admit I'm not watching as much college hoops as I used to and I used to be at the junkie level.  Its a complete 180 from that.

Still excited about the tourney though.   A couple of big upsets I think are in the making are Vermont over Arkansas and Colgate over Wisconsin.

Also think Tennessee has a really good team but I don't trust Rick Barnes
