*** Official 2022 PGA Tour Thread - Memorial Tournament, LIV list leaked- It's all Paulina's Fault **** (3 Viewers)

I'm tempted to fade every LIV guy in matchups.  Maybe too simple, but I think the Mass-holes are going to get in the heads of these guys early and often.

No offense intended to the good Judge but the Saudi’s have done a whole lot more wrong than just kill a journalist.  Their record on human rights alone makes me think less of these guys that are willing to take money from them.

Anyway, ignoring that, I still have no interest in it - it’s like the USFL/XFL, etc.  Inferior product with guys on the downswing of their career.
I get it.  But we sure take their oil, right? And the tour still does events all over China, right? (especially the LPGA).  Their human rights record ain't too grand, either.  If this were money coming from say, Iceland, would the tour have the same objections? I think they would, especially if backed by a Greg Norman.  Play on our tour or get out.  This is about money, pure and simple.

I agree with you that it's a watered down product and I have no interest in watching it.  The other thing is LIV sure ain't getting the most likable guys.  Patrick Reed, DeChambeau and now Mickelson in his current state.  If they were to get a Morikawa or something that would be different.  But their current roster is pretty weak.

Listening to various talking heads the last few months, I'm not really sure people even pay attention beyond the brutal murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

In case anyone is curious:

Human Rights Watch: Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia & human rights

20 years for satirical Tweets kind of stood out to me.

I would list the examples of sportswashing we've allowed with little protest but I might run up against the character count limitation for a post.

LIV in it's current form doesn't seem like much of a threat to the PGA Tour or the DP Tour. But it is a an order of magnitude more money for average and aging pros. There is definitely the potential for cracks in the dike to start appearing over time. It's already going to have an impact on Ryder Cup captains for the next decade.

Rory said today while he understood why it made sense economically for the older guys who were probably well past their prime, personally he wanted to play against the best. Younger players opting to join LIV "are taking the easy way out." They're (currently) not beating the best in the world when they win the richest tournaments in the history of the game.

I think the general thought is -5 or under, but these guys are so good...I'm thinking -8.
yeah that’s about where I’m at. it’s shortish by todays standards, rough is brutal, but if anybody hitting fairways will get their share.

good leaderboard early.

I know its early but this while LIV thing could just be the kick in the pants Rory needed.....

He tends to lose focus imo

Not saying this will continue just feels like hes motivated more than in recent years

I wish all the golf events were televised like the US Open.  It's really nice having it on in the office all morning long.  Great distraction from the pummeling the stock market is handing out.

Agreed!  Anyone checking out the DTV Mix Channel?  Similar to the Red Zone Channel it seems...but getting a feel for it.

Projects done by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead (early member of The Country Club in Brookline):

The country's first and oldest coordinated system of public parks and parkways in Buffalo, New York; the country's oldest state park, the Niagara Reservation in Niagara Falls, New York; one of the first planned communities in the United States, Riverside, Illinois; Mount Royal Park in Montreal, Quebec; The Institute of Livingin Hartford, Connecticut; Waterbury Hospital in Waterbury, Connecticut; the Emerald Necklace in Boston, Massachusetts; Highland Park in Rochester, New York; the Grand Necklace of Parks in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Cherokee Park and parks and parkway system in Louisville, Kentucky; Walnut Hill Park in New Britain, Connecticut; the Biltmore Estatein Asheville, North Carolina; the master plans for the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Maine, Stanford University near Palo Alto, California, and The Lawrenceville School; and Montebello Park in St. Catharines, Ontario. In Chicago his projects include Jackson Park, Washington Park, the main park ground for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, the south portion of Chicago's "emerald necklace" boulevard ring, and the University of Chicago campus. In Washington, D.C., he worked on the landscape surrounding the United States Capitol building.

Oh, and of course Central Park I’m Manhattan & my favorite, Brooklyn’s Prospect Park.

Phil is a mess unsurprisingly.
it would be kinda dumb to get too deep into this. None of us are take pyschological professionals and even if we were I think they’re bound by ethical obligations to not diagnose people who are not their patients.

Caveats out of the way…. Just who the #### is that guy right now? When he speaks to the media these days he’s not the Phil that we’ve known for 30 years. He’s not the outgoing freewheeling quote machine. His words are measured, he talks like someone who is scared ####less.

Some of us can sport that half shave look and it looks pretty awesome. And on Phil it looks like “wow bro..,.how about practicing a little self-care? You good, man?”

I don’t know what’s going on with him right now. But if he were my friend, and I saw those kind of change, I would be like “hey man….anything I can do to help?

Hadwin bogies 3. Birdies 5 of the next 6 - longest putt was 4’5”. The one birdie putt he missed on the par 3 was 4 feet.

(per shot tracker on the USGA app….I’m like is thing broke?)

Fitz looks like a good call @facook !  I’m in decent shape with Colin, Berger, now Rose.

Phil is a mess unsurprisingly.

Early early early.  I did add some Rahm 16-1 with a DK odds boost.  Too tasty not to give him a shot on a course that should play a lot like The Memorial.

I feel the same way.  Phil has been my favorite golfer for years.  Just not the same guy right now.

I played Dahmen over Phil and Phil to miss the cut.  Both were at super high odds, but it seemed extremely unlikely he'd come in and play well.  He could still make me eat my words, but man...

Jon Rahm’s start to the U.S. Open didn’t exactly go as planned.

The defending champion’s ball was nabbed on the 18th hole by two kids, who then ran off with it during the opening round of the tournament at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. The 27-year-old Spaniard took it in stride, though.

“I am 100 percent sure I saw the two kids that stole it,” he said, laughing. “Somebody — I’m pretty sure I know who it was. I recognized the two kids that were running the opposite way with a smile on their face.”

I have some experience dealing with depression. In my PTSD group at the VA I’ve observed it in scores of other people. Every individual is different. I want to be careful here.

But his behavior…the lengthy public withdrawal, the massive life change that he’s gone through, the drastic changes to his looks…like those are all pretty clear indicators he’s dealing with depression.

He has talked “I’ve been dealing with my deficiencies in my personal life” -  he’s admitted working in gambling (hasn’t best since October) he’s trying to be more present - all good things! He is in therapy, he’s working on stuff. Awesome.

But I think this LIV Golf thing is just such a massive disruption to his life that like it’s really ####ed his head up. He only knows the PGA tour and he’s thrown it away . For money? My man you don’t need money, you have more money than you will ever be able to spend!

Whatever, wish him well. I like Phil. Think he’s done a stupid thing but Phil doing stupid things is part of the charm.

All of this. Something is definitely weird with Phil

I’d fade DJ from here.  BDC…who knows with this guy and his mental makeup and dedication…he’s the LIV anomaly.

I should have followed my "Fade LIV" original instinct.  DJ and BDC the only ones playing half decent.

Not gonna be surprising to anyone, but just musing this evening:

A local resort held a US Open qualifying event 10 days ago.  Nicklaus design, beautiful course, but very tough.  And I'd assume toughened up for US Open qualifying.  Brady Calkins, Isaiah Salinda, and Ben Lorenz qualified.  -8, -8, and -6 for 36 holes respectively.

Today:

Calkins +6

Salinda +9

Lorenz +7

The pros are just ridiculously good, and the US Open is REALLY hard.

Felt like half of what I saw today was just ads about the rules of golf, some videos about players who played a 110 years ago and showing Mike Tirico talking to some 80 year old. My friend said it’s always this way with the open. Why? I watched two hours and I swear to god I saw 30 minutes of actual golf.

They had one ad about drops that was worse than the acting on public access.

Cool course though.

It did feel like they did the "Playing Through" commercial crap about every 8 minutes.
