Messi's PK's are just beautiful.
Looks like itHopefully we get this
Clutch second!Clutch first save
Virgil will have then best pk take
Well it was designed by Nazis.Argentina keeper is on meth.
Argentina put on a clinic on how to take them.Messi's PK's are just beautiful.
One. It's the biggest of the first three shots and it guarantees your choice scorer takes one.Watching PKs in this WC has changed my thinking on PK taker order. Seems making the first one is a big motivation. I used to think the best should be 3 or 4, but maybe 1 is the most important.
Sorry - 17. And it was the WC record.15 yellow cards - gotta be some kind of record.
Especially for the most without anyone being sent off.
I understand people want Messi to get his WC, but goalie staring down the guy like a punk for no reason, Messi flopping like a chump, dude firing the ball into the bench. Heartbreak would be the perfect result for this team.
Kind of an interesting thing to consider. Yeah, setting the tone is needed, but at the same time having your best PK taker to close it out really seems nice too.Watching PKs in this WC has changed my thinking on PK taker order. You can not count on it going all 5 kickers. Neymar didn't get a kick today. Don't know if he's Brazil's best taker, but 5th doesn't always get a chance.Kind of an interesting thing to consider. In the last Euros when Italy won on PKs, the PKs almost felt over when Jorginho stepped up to take the last kick given how he seemingly never misses PKs.
True that. It's weird. For me, the World Cup is really highlighting what crappy products much of our professional sports are. Takes too long and is over-commercialized. I want a game that takes two hours and doesn't show many commercials. Few or no goals? That's ok if the product is good. That was way better than last night's NFL game.
I need everyone who hasn’t gotten a yellow to raise your hand.![]()

I used to watch damn near everything.
Get off my lawn.
Oh, and as good as the World Cup has been, the Fox broadcasting crew has sucked. Alexi Lalas, go away.

Agreed. But from just a practical standpoint I see no fix.

Very true
So, what, we socialize the sport?Very true
The pay to play model is hurting our future in the sport.
I think there was some pushing and shoving or "gamesmanship" between the two teams in-between kicks.Speaking of yellows, what was that yellow card for during the PKs? The announcers just ignored it.

Who got it? The Argentinian goalie?Speaking of yellows, what was that yellow card for during the PKs? The announcers just ignored it.
I'm going to assume either dissent, or doing a little dance on the penalty spot while walking back
Good question. I think you summed it up below...So, what, we socialize the sport?Very true

The kids around the world see Futbol as a way out. They play in the streets with whatever they can find.Agreed. But from just a practical standpoint I see no fix.![]()

ETA: All I saw was the ref raise his hand and I couldn't tell who he was booking and the announcers/broadcast seemed to just ignore it.
Respectfully, I'm not following the point. I see no fix and it seems like basketball has cornered the market on the "poor children can still show up and just play" market.Good question. I think you summed it up below...So, what, we socialize the sport?Very true

The US makes it a rich kid sport.
