***Official 2022 World Cup Thread*** (3 Viewers)

And what is this thread without fully explicating my picks that will surely go wrong. Here's predictions for the whole tournament...

Just noting you have Poland in group C and group D - and going a combined 0 wins 5 losses and 1 draw. I think Australia may be missing. I've got Poland advancing!

I'm pretty sure this is the case but all the game times they advertise are an hour early to account for pre-game, right? The US match is 2pm EDT??

Hey…let’s sport wash Qatari stuff and then run a huge feature with Tom Ronaldo on the US failures…that’s the ticket.

A US 2nd team really highlights where we need to stay healthy and keep guys on the field...

Aaronson--Sargent--Weah
--------LDLT--------Roldan
--------------Acosta
-Scally--Long--CCV--Yedlin
-------------Horvath

Wasn't FOX and the US delegation bought off with promises of the 2022 TV rights and 2026 hosting when they howled at the announcement of Qatar in 2014? If so, probably no surprise they're playing ball.

So, since the World Cup is close, I was checking viewing options. I'm too cheap to pay for the 4k version of YoutubeTV, but apparently the Fox Sports App will have all WC games available in glorious 4k. Obviously, you have to have the right TV to take advantage of this but thought others may want to know. I also have read good things about the Fox Sports App. YMMV.
Thanks so much! Looking great in 4K.
A few buffering issues, hopefully that doesn't get worse.

Fox already owned the English rights for 2022. They threatened to sue FIFA as being breach on contract for moving the WC to a different time in the year. Shortly there after, Fox miraculously ended up with the English TV rights for 2026 with out having to bid against anyone for it. I have no idea what they paid for it but it was likely MUCH less than having to bid.

And Fox made out like a bandit because not only did they grab 2026 for probably a cut rate, they also get the added bonus of the US hosting which will lift ratings by itself.

I have to think that there must have been many tv broadcasters world wide that used this same technique against FIFA. I wonder how much less money FIFA will bring in for 2026 because of the corruption of 2022?

Thanks. I thought they'd been bought off, but couldn't remember the details.

Doubt we get much in the way of hard-hitting coverage.

The lower the amount they paid for 2026, the less negative commentary you will hear. :)

personally I am here for the sport. Let other media organizations hammer Qatar. I want Fox to focus on the games and players.

I did not see a Fifa World Cup Contest Group listed anywhere in here so I made one.
Here's the Link. Sorry this is so late - tbh I figured you guys would have already made one. If there already is one please reply with the link to it otherwise this is it.
Gotta defend my impossible title from the Euros after all.

Linky - gotta go through the URL

Here's the code - 4RTQ82W7 - group is called FBG World Cup

Just a little bump for those who just woke up. Won't be a big group unfortunately.

I think I got signed up - I suck at these though.

LOL I don't know a thing and did well so ya never know. Good luck :)

And still time for everyone else!

Ok I am in. thanks for setting it up.

the 4-4-2 was a strange formation for the game to choose since most teams play a form of 4-3-3 these days.

2 notes: Australia in the Poland place in Group E - it comes out correct in the games list so oops there

As for the FIFA game you can get other formations by subbing out one position and promoting another. I.e. if you bench a defender and promote a forward the formation dynamically changes

Feels weird having a World Cup in the winter. Curious how fitness will affect the performance of the players (for better or worse).

Circling back to the conversation a few weeks ago where I said the rule was dumb that offsides is actually you have to have 2 players ahead of the pass (to account for the goalie) rather than just leaving it as 1 player and signaling out the goalie as someone that doesn't count for offsides, and everyone told me I was a dummy.

And we're in a unique spot where it's mostly just me and one other person (outside of my niece helping one day a week). We're both long past Malcolm Gladwell's 10,000 hours (50,000 between the two of us, I think), yet we're still in our 40's. You don't age well in this job, but we've got something left in the tank.
You’re a better man then I. I dipped/sold out of my Resturant at 38, just flat lost my passion for it. 70+ hr weeks (sometimes 90+) took its toll. At 45 I need knee replacements in both knees. Tough job.
I'm still only 43, and dream about getting out sometimes (often?). Whether that happens or not, I get it. Absolutely I get it.

Before the pandemic, I was saving money with an eye towards getting out. Whether that was going back to school (my bachelor's is in psychology, not terribly valuable in the marketplace), or just buying time to build another business, money is necessary.
Then and now, that push/pull between putting money back into the business/building vs saving it for the next phase is always there.

To your point, I don't know when I'm out, but I know it's coming. I'd guess most everyone in this business has a love/hate relationship with it. We love it for whatever reason, but everybody from the dishwasher to the owner is planning their exit strategy. Body and mind torn to hell for nowhere near enough money.

How was that offside? There were three defenders behind the ball on the cross

Oh no - this looks bad. Did anyone see the offside?

I think they were saying the contact in the first scrum - that would be very close as only one player was advanced but the ball didn’t even go the Valencia then - bizarre call and of course everyone will think, rightly, that it’s fixed

Ok, I went back and watched it very closely all around and that’s a comically bad call - not even close to offside unless I’m totally missing something - just horrible

I was feeling a bit like Ted Lasso with a “how was that offsides” on the goal, but feel relieved coming in here and see that not just my ignorance being exposed, on that one anyway.
