Fair play points? JFC

Yeah, I'm not sure that scenario will do much to convert new fans no matter how exciting this is right now. Hoping one of them wins it outright.

What are you going to do though? It is not like its the first tie breaker, I think its the 5th.

I believe it's as follows:

1. Points
2. Goal Differential
3. Goals for
4. Fairplay points
5. Drawing lots
I think head to head comes in after goals for

Obviously doesn’t matter here, but it’s crazy H2H doesn’t factor.

It does, if this is right:

  • Greatest number of points obtained in group matches between the teams concerned
  • Superior goal difference resulting from the group matches between the team concerned
  • Greatest number of goals scored in all matches between the teams concerned
  • Highest team conduct score – team conduct score is based on the number of yellow and red cards a team has obtained. The team with the highest team conduct score will receive the higher ranking.
    • Yellow Card: Minus one point
    • Indirect Red Card (acquired via two yellow cards): Minus three points
    • Direct Red Card: Minus four points
    • Yellow Card and Direct Red Card: Minus five points

h2h does matter.

The ranking of teams in the group stage is determined as follows:[205]
  1. Points obtained in all group matches:
    • Win: 3 points;
    • Draw: 1 point;
    • Loss: 0 points;
  2. Goal difference in all group matches;
  3. Number of goals scored in all group matches;
  4. Points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;
  5. Goal difference in the matches played between the teams in question;
  6. Number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question;
  7. Fair play points in all group matches (only one deduction can be applied to a player in a single match):
    • Yellow card: −1 point;
    • Indirect red card (second yellow card): −3 points;
    • Direct red card: −4 points;
    • Yellow card and direct red card: −5 points;
  8. Drawing of lots.

I know that Mexico is USA's main rival--are most in the community rooting for Poland to advance?

I root for Mexico these days when the US isn't involved.. It's not a rivalry anymore, it's more like Canada v. US in hockey.

I know the Mexican fans are complete douches but what about the Mexican team? Are they dirty? Do they merit the hate?

IMO, neither team should be eliminated because of fair play points--play another match. Too much on the line for something so subjective to be so important.

Hey, full credit to SA and Argentina - either one could take their foot off the gas but both are playing this out.

Why would SA take their foot off the gas? They need a win.

They know they aren't scoring 3 goals.
Doesn't mean you stop trying. This will likely be the last WC match ever for most if not all of these guys. Would be crazy to just shut it down and walk it out for the last 20 minutes.
