Barguil sighting. Until now, I thought he stayed home.

Absolutely amazing interview from Pello

He gave a complete analysis of the whole race from his pov, you rarely see that

And then the awesome mention for Gino and his family

For every rider that finishes behind him, BILBAO Pello (Bahrain - Victorious) will donate 1 euro to Basoak SOS for reforestation. He has accumulated € 1307,- so far.

taking up the cause of Gino Mäder

A note on breakaway points today. Annoying for most of us, but the rules are the rules.... Esteban Chaves was around 30 seconds ahead of his breakaway companions at half distance of today's stage, so he is the only one to pick up the 20 points today for leading at halfway stage.

When does the Vuelta start?

:own3d::bag::wall::lmao:

Hoping that Wout realizes nothing is more important than family, and he needs to be with his wife. LIke right away. Get ready for Worlds, that's been your biggest goal all year. Stick with the plan, you don't need to be here. Do the right thing. No one ever looks back on their life and says "boy I wish I had spent more time at work." Get out of here, dude, no one will think any less of your legacy. Jonas has Sepp, he'll be fine, go on now. Respectfully....

Vuelta rolls out on my 61st birthday.

Sadly won't see the Champs-Élysées stage as we're leaving for Bermuda on the 22nd - and Stage 20 I'll be sneaking in update peeks during check in.

Big day for Sprinters:

Skjelmose (one of four 22 year olds and a Tour debutante) stuck his foot in his mouth yesterday, telling of a rumor WvA was departing the Tour after Stage 10.

WvA said nope and btw I don't think i've ever spoken to that guy lol.

Skjelmose in interview with Danish TV2 before the stage today:

How has it been to be on the front pages of the world after you "sent" Wout van Aert home?

Of course it's sucks. I said something that I hadn't really thought about, and I didn't know that TV 2 would take it that far. So it's a bit of a shame, says the Dane to TV 2 Sport.

Where did you get that from?

I had gotten it from Steven de Jongh (sports director, ed.).

Has it all been blown out of proportion?

No. I'm sorry it's come to what it is. I have written to Wout yesterday and told him that I am really sorry and I hope he will accept the apology. It was not my intention to create bad vibes. I think it's a shame, because I was just asked about Jumbo's tactics, and nothing was meant to be said. It was just as an argument for why I thought Wout was going to erupt.

How do you feel about it becoming a topic of conversation?

I'm sorry. I have made a mistake, and I must also be man enough to step up and give an apology.

Has Wout accepted it?

He reached out to me on WhatsApp yesterday, where I told him that I hoped he would let me ride up to him today so I could apologize face to face - and he has agreed to that. So I have to talk to him at some point in the stage.

Seems reasonable. He owned it, apologized and extended an olive branch.

Likely only three sprint stages left (at most) - Stage 18, 19 (maybe?) and Stage 21
  • Stage 12 - ripe for breakaways. The final climb - Cat 2 30 km from the finish with Bonus at the top - should be something Pogi is targeting. But I don't know if UAE will be able to control the breaks, should be interesting.
  • Stage 13 - pretty tame stage before the Grand Colombier climb to the summit finish. Should be good GC action.
  • Stage 14 - brutal stage with Cat 3-2-2-2 followed by a HC with bonus at the top, followed by a screaming technical descent to the finish line. Gonna be wild.
  • Stage 15 - second hardest mountain stage, uphill summit finish.
  • rest day
  • Stage 16 - 22.4 km ITT, uphill finish
  • Stage 17 - the hardest climbing day of the tour, long & steep, at altitude - max suffering
  • Stage 18 - mostly flat and easy stage
  • Stage 19 - hilly but flat for 20 km after the last climb/descent
  • Stage 20 - hard(Ish) mountain stage
  • Stage 21 - neutralized ride into Paris and one last bunch sprint to wrap things up

WvA has lost every bunch sprint before it launched by letting himself get boxed out

not sure happened to MvdP today, never got in position to help out & rolled across 99th or something

which made today the most impressive Jasper win - no lead out, had other teammates help him get up front, but he just curb stomped all of them

I think that’s 3 times now Welsford has taken the wrong side of the last roundabout - can no one on DSM help the guy figure that out beforehand?

Girmay just doesn't have it. Guy fights so hard until 200m to go and then gives up.

NO idea what WvA has been trying to accomplish this tour.

why was Bini riding 2nd wheel with 10-12 km to go? that was stupid.

WvA started saying in December his focus is on Glasgow this year.

Give every man thy ear, but few thy voice;
Take each man's censure, but reserve thy judgment.
Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy,
But not express'd in fancy; rich, not gaudy;
For the apparel oft proclaims the man,
And they in France of the best rank and station
Are of a most select and generous chief in that.
Neither a borrower nor a lender be;
For loan oft loses both itself and friend,
And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry.
This above all: to thine ownself be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
Farewell: my blessing season this in thee!

Be a man of your word, Wout - go home already.

(because that's the only way I can catch @BassNBrew lol)

when no one wants to go in the break with you

good short (8 min) video by LRCP analyzing where the various sprint teams kind of dropped the ball today

man, the overhead video really shows what a disaster it is when your DS hasn't told you which side of the roundabout you should take - if your team chooses poorly, it's 50 places dropped, you just screwed yourself out of having any shot. people should be losing jobs for that kind of simple (& wholly avoidable) mistake.

***************

it's crazy to me - you would think by now these teams would know you're not beating Jasper in a bunch sprint, so why not get in a big break?

a lot of these teams have no shot of ever winning a stage. you're not beating the GC guys in the Alps, you have NO SHOT at winning a bunch sprint, so why not go up the road?

UAE team radio today

OK, guys, now we do Plan C - everybody jump the tiger

:lmao:

There's a big fight BTS on who owns this content. Teams say it's our cars, our radios, talking to our guys. ASO says you're racing our event so we own it. They paid them a pittance (like 5K euros) sol all the teams aren't releasing anything. If they did this like F1 it could really add to the broadcast but this year it's a joke, the teams refuse to allow it to be released or give ASO bland stuff that doesn't give any insight into their strategy.

That said, chapeau UAE - loosest team in the peloton.

Sepp Kuss bracing for yellow jersey clash in Alps: ‘It will be a different race’

Though no one inside the Jumbo-Visma team bus is discounting the rest of the peloton, all eyes are on Pogačar and the threat the two-time winner represents.

Vingegaard is quietly confident he can fend off the Slovenian and even tighten his grip on yellow in a string of brutal climbing stages across the French Alps.

Kuss concurs.

“We haven’t had a true high mountain stage yet and that’s where Jonas really feels most comfortable and looks most forward to,” he said.

Is Vinegaard better in the high mountains?

“It’s hard to say because they both so strong. At that level, they’re really evenly matched until now,” Kuss said Wednesday.

“With Pogačar as well, he’s shown that he’s right there and he has a lot of forward momentum. As a team we are really looking forward to the Alps.”

Fabio Jakobsen has abandoned the Tour.

Been struggling for over a week ever since he crashed. Rest well.

Gonna be a brutal next 4 days for the Sprinters.

David de la Cruz (Astana) with a bad crash

super dangerous situation - Groupama-FDJ was involved, they were RIGHT on a small sharp curve, caravan of team cars was coming through, and mechanic dashed in front of a motorbike to get his guy on the other side of the road a replacement bike. they barely stopped in time and then everyone behind (all following close) all had to slam on their brakes.

(two lane country lane in the woods, sheesh that could have been a tragedy)

Wow. How’d that happen? Lol

Thibaut Pinot baby
He's got a great quote in the Netflix show; “Sometimes I feel like I am more popular than I am talented. There are days when I wish I got less love and more wins."
