I missed the Stage today but saw Tweets & highlights. Any fan who takes out GC Kuss should have a lifetime ban at all European sporting events. Get Interpol involved. Does France still have guillotines?

Pogi said after the race he knew he couldn't drop Vingegaard. So much respect between them (and between TJV and UAE.) Their fans are toxic af to each other online, but the riders are great to each other.

This has to rank with 1964 & 1989 as the best Tour de France of all time, irrespective of what happens over the last 6 stages. It's like watching great artists and realizing how lucky you are to see this with your own eyes. Well, at least I'll. be able to say that later (or tomorrow) when I get around to watching Stage 15. Yesterday might have been the best Stage I have ever seen. No idea who pulls it off, they are VERY evenly matched.

Big points from a $4 unclassed American rider. Looks like my Vingegaard/Pogacar duo is starting to pay dividends. Was looking like a not so great strategy at first. We'll see how it ends up. They should both get good bonus points at the end.

I've gone from picking guys I've heard of before, and riders I like, to actually trying to put some thought into it. Seems to be working. LOL

I love soaking up knowledge + history on anything that interests me; I've enjoyed cycling since LeMond came on the scene. But I've def made an effort to understand tactics & roles more in depth, along with simply getting to know the entire peloton better. There's a lot of good pro cycling analysis channels on YT that have taught me a lot.

Also, shout out to r/peloton. They have multiple threads (pre-, race, post-) on every pro cycling event, mens and womens. Like anything on Reddit you have to filter out some garbage but there are very knowledgeable fans there. They have a Weekly Question Thread on Fridays which is a safe place for noobs to ask dumb questions.

Per British oddsmakers, Vino now slightly favored to win: 53-47.

That's taking the rest of the field out of the odds entirely and removing the vig.
 
It seems only fitting if Tadej wins tomorrows stage by either 9 or 11 seconds. I’ll go 11 since I’m tired of the bee train.

Don't think it would matter. If Tadej is in first there's no need for UAE to control the peleton.

no bike change for jonas - TT bike is on the outside right of the team car (Tadej has a road bike in the first slot of the UAE team car)
 
Good lord.

Vingegaard 16 seconds ahead of Pogacar at the 1st check. And 42 seconds better than 3rd place.

Those two can't possibly keep that up to the end, right? Have both gone out too hard?
 
Just unbelievable theater.

Vingegaard 31 seconds ahead at the 2nd check. With the bike changes, Pogacar roughly 42 seconds back on the stage. 52 back overall.
 
Jonas climbing faster and Tadej gave up 12 seconds for the bike change (which is super fast for a switch but he's losing time)
 
Legendary ride. Takes 98 seconds off Pogacar at the line -- and Pogacar caught the rider in front of him.

Vingegaard took almost 3 minutes out of WvA in third place.

Stage Breakdown

The Queen stage - the hardest stage of the 2023 TdF. Classic start from Saint Gervais then through Megève to go to the Col des Saisies, a combination used in a lot of races in the area, then the Cormet de Roselend, one of the most used climbs in the Tour recently. Then a long descent towards the Côte the Longefoy, which is harder than it seems. Finally the monster, the Col de la Loze, with the first part traditionally used towards Méribel, and then the newer road, so far used once in the Tour, and once in the Tour de l'Avenir. It was here in 2020 which Miguel Angel Lopez (now exiled in South America due to doping accusations) won. That 2020 Stage was chaos, with riders arriving one by one. This time we have the descent towards Courchevel right after.

Predictions:

★★★ Vingegaard, Pogacar

★★ one of the top 10 from the break

★ any other climber not completely dead from the insane rhythm of this race

Everybody will try to go for the break, 3rd place is at almost 9 minutes and that's Pogacar teammate, so everybody else is not a threat. It would be stupid for either JUmbo or UAE to try to control what will be one mess of a stage, but it's not like we have seen the smartest strategies from both teams. More importantly, Pogacar needs to make up almost 2 minutes, he won't risk playing just stage 20 and the final climb tomorrow. Seeing him go in the Saisies is likely what will happen, the smarter move might be be to drill it on the Cormet de Roselend and attack over the top with some teammates in front. Anyway, it should be one for the ages be it from the break or one of the two superstars

Oddsmakers: Vingegaard 89-11 Pogacar to win.

Pulling for Vingegaard all the way, so won't stop here, but I'm hoping for some fireworks and more drama tomorrow. Let's finish this GOAT contender off with a bang.
 
where Vingegaard gained time on Pogačar

Jonas almost two seconds after the first corner by going in with more speed and hitting the apex

consistently took a more aggressive line, was pedaling hard in sections Pogi was coasting in the aero tuck

linked video doesn't cover it but another podcast went over how much faster on the descent Jonas was

bike change took 12 seconds from stopping to handoff, but there's also slow down time, how long it took to get back up to full speed, all for a climb that was 2.8 km?

IDK where the switch was, from the 2nd time split (3.5 km left) Vingegaard gained another 43 seconds - figure close to 30 seconds of that was the bike change?

in the KOM (last 2.8 km) they didn't release times but Jonas was 2nd - top 3 all used the same bike (Ciccone did switch BUT it was before the 2nd split so he was full gas by the base)

it was a great ride - two great rides, actually - but far from over

tomorrow should be fun
 
Just caught up on today's events.

Something smells fishy. 10% time difference between 1st and 3rd thru 10th.

25.6 mph to 23 mph. That's 348 watts to 261 watts on a flat course. Taking grade into account, Vingegarrd rode at 466 watts and the 3rd thru 10th guys were around 367 watts. I'm sorry, I don't by someone being 27% stronger than most of his closest rivals.

Pogačar crashed earlier today going about 20 kph (nearly took out Jonas), landed on his left side but seems OK

should be a good Velogames result for folks who had a rider in the breakaway
