We're playing with house $$$$ at this point. We didn't expect to be here in June especially after Blake Snell broke Harper's wrist on my birthday. However we got rid of the fraud manager and took Topper with us. Our pitching got better as the year went on and we got ourselves a cool #3 in Ranger Suarez.
Losing this sucks especially to the Astros but this is like Losing to the Patriots when they were cheating. Cool you beat us lets see if you can do it without cheating.

I'll bite. How are they cheating this series?

None of this even matters if the Phils lose. There is no consolation prize here.

They probably can

Highly doubt it. The Astros weren't anything special roster wise till they cheated. Most of the guys who were there numbers have gone down since then. I mean we literally beat the patriots when they couldn't cheat anymore.

Good lord dude. The Astros cheated like 4 or 5 years ago. If the Phils lose this game, it has absolutely nothing to do with their opponent cheating. Give it a break.

Not when Dusty Baker is their manager biggest fraud and cheat for yrs. This guy covered for bonds and Sosa for yrs. One of the least deserving of a ring these days

You must really hate the 93 Phillies then

This Houston crowd just seems subdued. Do they even realize that their team just won a championship?

Yeah, Houston fans are fairly subdued. You can wear the opponents gear with pride down here and not worry about getting killed. Sometimes I wish the crowd was more like BOS/NYC/PHI

You need to blame the Phillies for not being able to hit the ball 3 straight games.

Predictions? Both teams are hot. I’m very biased but the Phils look unstoppable at the moment. No matter how much they’re down, you just know that clutch HR is coming. The pitching has been good enough. No doubt Houston will be their toughest challenge to date. Houston has a great lineup and very good pitching. This series should go to 7 IMO. I predict Phils complete their miracle run.

This is definitely Houston's toughest opponent with the Phills hitting their stride at the right time. I think Altuve gets out of his slump and the rest of the order continues their balanced production. It really comes down to Houston's pitching v. Philly's offense. I'm taking the Stros in 6 but I'm a bit biased.
I need to bet on baseball more often

Absolutely hate the Astros. Cheaters. But was cheering for Mattress Mack. $75M. Pay the man his money. Would love to be in that Sportsbook line

And bad mistakes
I've made a few
I've had my share of sand
Kicked in my face
But I've come through

And we mean to go on and on and on and on

i feel for Alvarado though. he has pitched pretty well all post-season, last 2 games has left a sour taste after an overall good playoff run
This is part of the problem managers are getting caught in for playoff series situations. They over use their RP's to the point that they lose a lot of their advantage (not being seen by the batters a lot). You run a guy out there 4 or 5 times over the course of a week and the batters get a big uptick in their live looks which really helps them vs a pitcher. Pulling starters way early and getting deep into your pen every game eventually takes its toll and Alvarado was the victim.

Said it to my friends in real time. He basically gave up one single in that inning that wasn’t even that hard hit
This is where playoff managing and analytics collide. In a series sometimes you need to see how a particular game is going and in this case Wheeler was shoving it. A hit batter and a dribbler does not equate to the other team starting to get on a pitcher. For this particular game and that pitch count Wheeler needed to be trusted. Then when you factor in Alvarado coming out for his 4th appearance in 6 games within a week you are compounding the issue.

Analytics are built on the long haul of a 162 game season and works much better in the regular season. In a 7 game series over the course of a week it's a small sample size so you need to also factor in the current game flow/situation. It's a different beast and these managers don't trust the situations enough. It may not burn them early but going to the bullpen so early and overusing them will eventually catch up to them as the series goes to 6 or 7 games. It's one of the reasons the Dodgers haven't faired well int he playoffs. Roberts is a terrible playoff manager because he doesn't have this feel and overuses his pen way to early and it bites him by the end of the series.

Its more or less like diving etc its up for interutation but he clearly made zero attempt to move. He had ample time to react. Its been a rule forever but MLB doesn't implement it like they should. Utley was great at this and did it constantly. Utley was a guy who toed the line of breaking the rules and playing with in them though
I guess you didn't watch the pitch. Maldonado brought his arm into his body to protect his ribs. That was his attempt to get out of the way. He did not throw his elbow out over the plate to try and get hit like what happened earlier in the series. Trying to avoid getting hit on 95+ mph fastballs mixed with breaking balls where you have to decide in miliseconds is not easy to do. Sometimes you also get "frozen" by a pitch when you are looking for some other pitch and can't do anything. The only way a guy is going to be kept at home after getting hit is if it's an off speed pitch where he doesn't move at all (and then he likely still gets awarded first because of the "frozen" aspect) or where a batter moves across the plate to purposely get hit by the ball that wasn't going to hit him in the first place (like what happened earlier).

This situation is baseball. Maldanado made an adjustment to move in on the plate and Wheeler came too far inside. Nothing wrong with any of it.

I hope people in Philly aren't criticizing their manager. Dude took a sub .500 team and took them to the playoffs and a 2-1 lead in the World Series against a 106 win-team that hadn't even lost a playoff game yet.

Went to Academy Sports at 11:30pm the night of the win. I'd estimate the line of people outside waiting to get into the store was at 200 people.

Left, went back the next morning at 9 am. There were about 30 people in line outside.

Finally went back today and picked up a few shirts and things. Parade is getting underway soon. Expecting a million people at it. Going to watch it on TV.

It seems like most of the fans are still upset/mourning but not a lot of blaming the manager. I think the fans here are smart and realize how good of a job this guy did getting them this far. He made a bad decision in one game. It happens. For the most part, he pushed all the right buttons in these playoffs.

How is Thomson not a finalist for NL Manager of the Year? Buck, Roberts and Snitker are the finalists.

Thomson took a fledgling team with a defense filled with DH's, and his star player out for months, a crappy bullpen, all the way to Game 6 of the World Series.

EDIT: ballots were submitted before postseason began. I still think he deserves to be a finalist.

The Academy off 59/Kriby? I live over there and it's been slammed every time I've passed by. Saw.a long line there well after 1am on championship night. I guess we don't have any other professional franchises competing at the moment so makes sense.

The one across the street from West Oaks mall.

Trea Turner is a Phillie, Xander Bogaerts is a Padre and Aaron Judge is still a Yankee. All are very, very rich men.
This must mean that the Padres are significantly worried about Tatis moving forward.
They’re moving him to the OF. They also tried to sign Judge so they were on the rampage for more big names. Not sure if we can read any more into it than that at this point.

Royals sign Ryan Yarbrough to a 1 year deal worth $3 million, with another $1 million in possible incentives, of which part of this is if he actually shows up to spring training.

Correa signs with SF. Awesome.

Suck it, Twins.
Bite me. :boxing::suds: Good for SF. I would have enjoyed seeing Correa stay in MN because he was a huge asset to the team, not only in talent but leadership. However, there was no way the Twins were going to go past 10 years and I cant blame them for that. I don't think there is any way that it looks like a good deal in year 13, but I understand why it was given. I have to admit, it was kind of fun swimming in the ocean because the Twins normally don't swim there.
