When playing a match or in league play after your opponent gives you a putt do you still putt the ball? I was told years ago the proper etiquette is when you are given a putt just say thanks and pick up your ball.
I was playing a guy in my league on Tuesday...4 times on the first 6 holes I gave him 2-3 foot putts after I won the hole. After giving him the putt he walks up addresses the ball and putts it..3 times he misses. Since we play match and total score I was ahead in match play but then I took a snowman on hole 7 after hitting two shots OB. The last two holes he had the same putts that I had given him all day and I don`t say a word because in my mind he had missed these before. After he made them he kind of looks at me like WTH.

I like to putt mine for the practice, even if it's given to me. But I don't know the actual rule on it. I'm not a huge fan of giving putts, though. If it's easy enough to make, then make it.

If you are playing in a semi serious match, then you should pick up and not putt out. There is a strategy to this and some head games by not letting someone actually make small putts to gain confidence. Give them all the short putts on the front and don't let them finish out. Then make them putt everything on the back 9 when things start to get serious. That's they way we've always played.I like to putt mine for the practice, even if it's given to me. I'm curious why you say this. Not saying you're not right in your opinion, but just wondering the reasoning. If you watch things like the Ryder Cup or President's Cup, you'll see guys finish putts even if it was conceded. Now, usually it is only if they are losing and their putting is failing them, but they do it. I guess if you're winning, and someone gives you a putt, it may not be the best thing to finish it, but I don't see the harm in putting out. I was looking at the track a couple weeks ago, and I think it looks awesome. I'm excited to see this played. I feel like every year we hear people complaining about the setup or the course and everything goes just fine. Won the longest drive in a scramble this past Sunday. 429 yard par 4. We were about 64 yards out. Straight downwind, but it was a bomb. :flex:

Played it a bunch when I lived in SF. 20-30 times, though not since the renovation. Great piece of land. Olympic, SFGC, and Lake Merced all right there.

however, this can backfire. If you are feeling shaky with the putter it might be better to concede all the 2-3 footers early and hope you can beat your opponent straight up with course mgmt and ball striking.

you are. an 82 with 2 3 putts isn't anything i'd worry about. Hopefully your 3 putts were from being aggressive. on your next round, have someone else keep score, don't think about your score at all, and just try to par everything. Try to avoid any doubles, take your medicine if you hit in the trees and accept a bogey if necessary. DO NOT MENTALLY keep track of your score. Just play each hole for par and add it up when you're done.

Keeping score doesn't bother me. I wasn't in trouble all day. Just a couple thin shots and some poor approachesThat's about my normal score. Played there last year. I felt he course played long and the rough was brutal. I found a sleeve of balls not a yard off the fairway that had been lost by groups in front of us.
The only truly memorable hole was 18 (14 this week).

Fixed my grip and played this weekend. It was like night and day. Instead of feeling hesitant over every shot, I was back to my normal self. Felt amazing to just walk up to a ball and hit it cleanly. Played a tough, hilly course but still shot a 90. My biggest issue was still not knowing the distances of my new clubs. At least half the holes I overshot the green because my new clubs go further. But it was hard to be too upset because I was hitting the ball nicely.
I always say, I'd rather score high and hit the ball well, than score low and get lucky bounces with bad shots.

I am going to blame 4.5 hours sleep for my day Sunday.
I started out hitting the ball great.
Had one bad swing that ended up in a pond made double.
Front nine - I had 1 birdie, 1 double, 1 bogie for a 38.
Started out on the back ok - made par. Had a terrible bogey on 11. Hit a line drive with my 9 and just struggled pitching.
12 I 3 putted but was in a ridiculous spot. I pulled my 8 iron. 3 yards to the right and I'm next to the stick. instead I had to go up hill then the putt went straight down hill. I hit almost a perfect putt and the ball ended up still 20ft passed the hole. It was physically impossible to stop that putt.
Next hole I left my self an impossible pitch and screwed it up.
Next hole par 5 - I hit a huge 3 wood from behind a tree from 245. Ends up on green. 3 putt for Par
Then the wheels just came off completely. double double double - Any wedge in my hand was awful. Bladed a flop shot, chuncked another. Just a rough finish.
38 - 45
Side note - I am a club shorter this year and not liking it. I have no idea what to hit anymore. I don't know if it's swing, age or what - I hit them solid but definitely lost distance

Played my first round of disc golf out at Golden Gate park on Friday, 9 tecate's later I finally threw a decent shot. The amount of weed being smoked and offered up was amazing (I can't partake), especially at 9 am on a Friday. My arm was sore as hell come saturday and caused me to pull out of playing 18 holes of golf. The nice thing was that even though I was terrible at throwing for distance, the beer and ability to still get bogeys was fun. Also, the 3 disc starter set was cheaper than my regular box of golf balls.

Finally got a chance last week to try this out on the course...over 36 holes at Innisbrook Wed/Thurs...felt MUCH better, and made quite a few 10-20 footers. Appreciate the tip, Bender!Not even that. coincidentally I can't make a 5 foot putt or longer all of a sudden.Anyone with tips on putting stances? I can't seem to keep from cutting across the ball. I line up putter first, then step into my stance...and naturally I end up slightly open, then slicing my putts.
Most issues like you describe I see people finishing high with the putter well above and to the right (if right handed) of where the ball was.
I always remember that after contact it should look like almost a mini driver swing with the club almost coming in toward my body.
If it is, it's one of the easiest fixes in the world, if not, then I completely misread your issue.

Is there like a website that has good listings of "best public courses in..." for all different areas? I'm trying to find some fun, new, and not super expensive places to play, but am having trouble finding any good websites.

Yes. Thanks. And I saw this site and was using it as a reference. Then I told someone that I might be playing Cobbs Creek this weekend and they said it was a crap hole. This site has it as the 19th best course. So I was suspect of the site. I do see a lot of the courses are nice, but I was hoping to maybe find some more hidden gems.
I played Cobbs a ton last year. It's a city course, so you have to temper expectations in regards to condition, but it's not in awful shape by any means, and I'll say it's a tough course. The front 9 is short (three par 3's), but the first 6 holes all have water in play. The back nine opens up and 11-15 is as tough of a stretch of holes that I've played anywhere. 12 is a 420 yard par four, slightly uphill and 14 is a 580 yard par 5, both of which ALWAYS play into the wind.
13 and 15 both are severely sloped and if you hit the ball right it's just going to roll forever away from the hole (and possibly into the woods on 15). 11 is the easiest of the stretch, but still a 380 yard par 4 with OB on the left.
The greens are quick and undulating for sure. Make sure you stay BELOW the hole on 17 - probably the most picturesque hole on the course - or you are done. All in all, I wouldn't call it a dump by any means, it's a challenging course, but it is a city course.
However, Karakung is the other course at the facility. That is in fact a dump and do not play that by any means.

Considering I've been a complete disaster off the tee lately, this should be a piece of cake.Ton of fun. Great course, beautiful views. Stay out of the rough though. Even when it isn't playing long, it's some of the thickest rough I've ever played. Hit your drive in the rough and a par will feel like a birdie.Playing Torrey in a couple weeks
I'll start warming up my "play it forward" speech so I can hit more irons on par 4s.
