Their farm system is continuously one of the best producing star after star. Look at the home grown stars who became hot free agents (Seager, etc). They’ve judiciously walked away from high priced free agents for 2 years because they were committed to getting Ohtani. And they did. They’ve suffered due to massive injuries with pitchers like Beuhler, May and others + the situations with Bauer and Urias. If not for that I’m confident they have more rings vs pennants. Yankees spend. Red Sox spend. Padres spend. Giants spend. Rangers spend. Angels spend. And more. It’s not just about spending. It’s what you do with it. And please, knock the success of their farm system

It's a great organization. No doubt. But the Marlins have more World Series titles than the Dodgers do since they came into league. For all this spending the Dodgers have done there isn't much to show for it other than a diluted title in 2020.

It’s a ton of money. No doubt. This was always going to be $600-$700M. Some thought there would be a discount with the injury. Guess they feel confident he will go back to being a dominant pitcher. Add up the price for a dominant starting pitcher with the price for a dominant left handed power hitter.

I don’t disagree that they have underachieved with # of titles. And that’s the ultimate scoreboard. They need to win 2 titles to make Ohtani pay off. Anything else is a failure.

Deferred money in sports contracts has been around for at least as long as Bobby Bonilla has.

Under the current CBA, I believe the net present value of the deferred salary is used for CBT purposes. If a third of the money is deferred as it is for Mookie Betts' contract, the Dodgers won't get the full 33% in cap relief. There will be some discount but not enough to cover Yamamoto's salary.
