Official 2025 Professional Golf thread - Rosie gets it done, Tommy doesn't...again (4 Viewers)

If you had Scottie’s 4 stroke lead with 2 holes to play on this course, with the crowd still there, could you win?

No and I'd only need one hole to blow the lead.
I mean...are we playing a course appropriate to my skill level? Totally. But if I bogey both holes from the tips as they are for the Open it would be me playing really well, so I'd basically expect to at least go to a playoff if not outright lose.

And the crowd has nothing to do with it lol

So who is on the ryder cup ...

Locks ...
1 Scottie Scheffler
2 Bryson DeChambeau (confirmed by Keegan)
3 Xander Schauffele
4 Justin Thomas
5. JJ Spaun
6. Russell Henley
7. Harris English

Likely:
8. Collin Morikawa
9. Patrick Cantlay
10. Ben Griffin

In this mix for the last two spots...

Maverick McNealy
Daniel Berger
Keegan Bradley
Brian Harman ... distance and iron height is a big deal at Bethpage IMO, and he doesn't have it
Sam Burns (not my favorite but he's 11th in the rankings)

Jordan Spieth (I don't think so. His ball striking isn't good the last 2 years)
Chris Gotterup (probably not, but recency bias is important if you want someone playing good that kills the ball)
Akshay Bhatia (probably not, but could be a future cornerstone)
Denny McCarthy (probably not, would need a win and to be hot the entire Fed Ex)

Right now I'd go with Keegan, and have him stay captain, but only play afternoon matches and go out early in singles. The 12th is a tougher choice.

IMO, Burns is gonna make it. He's #1 on tour in strokes-gained putting by a pretty wide margin. If he plays well in the next month I think he's a pretty good bet.

Harman isn't built for Bethpage at all and is a no-brainer cut, IMO. Gotterup obviously had a great 2 weeks but the Black is no links course.

I know Spieth has generally played pretty well in the cup (and his strokes gained stats are actually better than I thought) but I dont think they bring him. I know there will be pressure from within the team to take him, but he just hasn't been quite good enough.

If those first 10 are indeed in (and I think they probably are)I think its Keegan and Burns. I'm still holding out irrational hope that Tiger is gonna come in last minute and take over as captain. I know its not gonna happen, but it would be so damn epic.

As usual, its gonna come down to strategy and making putts. The back half of the Euro team is better than it has been, so we can't F around and give up points with bad pairings.

Your Top 7 for us is darn good, but after that it gets shaky.

Personally I'd take Gotterup, he's been solid all year and played well at both Opens - and Bethpage is an Open course. It's a course whete length helps and he's LONG. Plus he showed he has a wonderful imagination when needing up and downs. There's a reason he's Top 10 on Tour in bogey avoidance.

I’d like to see Burns also. He’s got Ryder experience and has won the biggest match play event…and his putter is elite. Being tight with Scottie can’t hurt.

One item of note is I left off Wyndham Clark intentionally. Not a fan. He seems to be a downer and somewhat of a loner. Everything is so negative, and I mean beyond what happened at Oakmont. His attitude sucks and I don't think Keegan wants that on the team. But his British performance probably opened up the door again for him.

Is it possible he can get in top 6? I really hope not. Also don't think he's a good person to have on a team.

As much as I would love Keegan to play, he's stated he will only player coach if he top 6 qualifies

Current

golfmigos i know he is not tiger or jack yet but how do you rank scotty or is it just too early to even have the conversation but if you do then how do you factor in the liv stuff and a bunch of guys not being around and all that i mean he has been dominant and at times untouchable but it is a complicated question right now i think please discuss amongst yourselfs take that to the bank brochachos

He’s on a sick run, once he went away from the blade putter he’s become almost untouchable. Way too early to have the conversation about all time and I don’t think LIV factors in at all since the best players are still at the majors. Golf is fickle but I don’t see him going JT or Spieth with his wins

Probably too early but, man, nobody has been this dominant since Tiger and he's doing it against really strong fields of opponents.

To compare to NBA, I'd consider him Jokic at this point where if he keeps this up for another decade he sniffs the all time great discussion. Thing is, Tiger was this good for like 15 years whereas Scottie has done it for like 3.

It’s a valid comparison. He’s way stronger mentally than Spieth or any of the other hot start guys. Dude gets top 5’s with his B game. If he putts well he’s virtually unbeatable. No weaknesses. Long, accurate, great irons and short game. The only thing that could stop him is injury and he’s way less likely to get injured than the jacked guys like Tiger, Bryson, Rory, Koepka, etc. Plus his foot movement takes pressure off his back and legs. Built for the long term.

Don’t love our team. Just sayin
I don't love the Euros. Rory coasting...Rahm hasn't done anything in years...Fleetwood reeling a bit from Keegan's comeback...Ludvig is a mess...etc.
Rahm hasn't done anything in years? That is a wild take
A couple of top 10s in Majors over the last 3 years? It is something I guess...but Henley has more for example...Rahm isn't any better than Henley but there's an outdated perception that he is.

I kicked this around my golf group. Consensus was that if Scottie quit today he'd be somewhere between the 15th-25th best ever.

2023: won the masters, T2 at the open and T10 is opem
2024: T7 open, you’re right **** year
2025: T14 masters, T8 pga, T7 us open and T34 open
I get that the expectations for Rahm are Scottie level but he’s still a top 5 player in the world

There's a Top 1 (American) and IMO a clear Top 4 (3 Americans).
After that...'23 Rahm would definitely be Top 5 but not sure why '25 Rahm is over Henley, JT, Collin, etc.
We'll see...I think the Americans cruise.
