Official Alshon Jeffery - The Bandwagon (1 Viewer)

Just got him in a trade. The only league that I have him in and I only did the trade because it was Bell/Jeffery for Forte/Andre Johnson. Alshon is a dang good WR but here are my concerns:

1) His injury is one of those that tends to be a factor all season long and make players not 100%.

2) He will get a bunch of double teams all season long as the Bears have very little to worry about in the passing game other than Bennett and Forte- no other WR's.

On the other end, reasons for optimism are:

1) The Bears look to me to be horrible this year. I see them falling behind a ton this season which means more throwing.

2) No one else to throw to (the opposite of the double team argument).

3) I love this talent.
Tatum Bell?
 Le'veon no less.
So there's a guy in your league that traded you a top-10 WR and the best RB in fantasy for a 30-year old RB and a 34-year old WR?

Nize work!
Yep, that's like a trade rape out of "The League".

Third straight year Jeffery has ended up on my team. Jeffery and being on the injury list seems to come with the territory, but he seems to always play.

With Cutler still the QB it's possible opposing defenders wind up with more receptions.

Then you did that trade for Bell and got another gem as a throw in. Wow!
Yea, as outlined, I have some concerns on Alshon and I am high on Andre Johnson. I figured that the upgrade for Bell was worth it even if Andre ends up doing as well as I expect him to do and Alshon struggles a bit. But if it works out on value as others expect Alshon/Andre to work out then it is just an added bonus for me.

Eddie Royal is opposite of Jeffrey. Royal is not Jerry Rice, but he's a credible #2 WR in an NFL offense.

There is no reason to double team Royal. You might want to double Bennett in some situations but no reason to double Royal. Your concern as a DC against the Bears this year is to lock Alshon down and control the box to keep Forte in check. You do this- you will win against the Bears this year.

Loved getting him cheaper than similarly valued wr's in auction drafts this past week. I just hope he isn't rushing back too soon and stays healthy.

Cutler is going to feed him the ball, especially with their CHI's weak giving up points.

if he has a big game this week I'm thinking of moving him and seeing if i an package him for calvin or AJG or someone in that caliber. Every single defense will double him and stack the box with the rest to take forte away and take jeffrey away. I can see games where jefrey puts up maybe just 2 or 3 catches. Makes me nervous with him out there as the #1

Easier said than done. You could say the same for AJ/Hill and Brown/Bell.

I still don't have Alshon on the same level as AJ/A brown

An and hill yes.

But not as much Brown and Bell.

Just from the standpoint of Ben vs Cutler.

I gotta call BS on revoking the trade. It doesn't look like a great deal, but that's part of our game. You never know how these things will turn out.

I disagree. If I'm in that league and if its clearly a money league there is no way that is even close to fair. Nobody in there right mind gives up a 1st round pick and 2nd pick for a late 1st early 2nd pick. It is totally lopsided and I would be pissed.

It doesn't matter if YOU think the trade is lopsided. The only thing that matters is each of the two teams involved in the trade agreed to it.

Unless you can prove collusion, let guys manage their teams as they see fit.

Would you revoke a bad draft pick or bad FAAB bid?

Okay so say I'm new and i draft somehow dez and julio at the end of the 1-2 turn and trade both for say sam bradford in a normal league. I like the trade because I'm a eagles fan. You think this is fair just because " oh i like bradford so yeah i like the trade"? Just because someone likes a trade doesn't mean you are allowed to completely stack 1 team and basically ruin the league before it starts

You say that untill Julio gets hurt and Bradford throws 40 TDs. Nobody knows what will be a fair trade and what won't. If people are making trades that are so bad that they hurt the league, how did you let them in to begin with?

I agree with the 2nd part! In both my leagues there isn't an idiot that would ever make a trade like that, which could potentially ruin the league before it starts. First part I'm not even going to bother to argue because you seem like a very stubborn person

from my point of view i see one owner trading away a guy who isnt playing for the first 2 weeks and another guy who is already hurt and nobody seems to know when he will play.

Forte is playing now and is the focal point of the offence and Johnson is healthy and catching balls from the best QB in the league this season.

Its not as crazy as it looks on paper

Id rather be getting Bell/Jeffery in that deal, but its not veto-worthy. at the guy who made the analogy of trading Sam Bradford for Dez or Julio comparable to this trade.

Have to remember Jeffery looked like he could be injured too. Being up to date on news on your own player is part of the deal. Being ahead of the news by just a couple hours can make all the difference.

Should know a lot today. If he practices you would think he's good to go. How much you can trust him is another thing.

Didn't have any Broncos the past couple of seasons so wasn't aware the John Fox likes to be Mr. Secret Operative HC. Not a fan.

ya after seeing him limited in practice WED it just confirms what I was hoping, they were playing it cautious with ALSHON which imo was the best thing to do. PRESEASON should be boycotted or at least taken to 2 games. 4 games of preseason football is garbage and unnecessary. Great players losing seasons on non contact injuries in meaningless games needs to stop.

ya your right I wouldn't do it, rarely would I ever veto a trade but the thought could come up. I was just throwing a joke out there but it is lopsided.

Brad Biggs local guy on radio this am said in his opinion Jeffery sits this Sunday. Note, his opinion, not reporting anything
please don't take what Biggs says as anything but a guess. He may be right this time, he may be wrong, but the Tribune reporters are awful.

I don't want to hear what local beat writers are saying, why would he sit??? he is a bum if he sits.. He is fine its a calf strain and he had a month to heal.. they are making this up to be to much I guess they must be bored in CHI town.

I think part of his thinking was in that I took DeAngelo later in the draft and there is not much of a bench in this league so while I can suck Bell's suspension up because I have Williams, he felt he needed something for the first two weeks. On top of that- I think his thinking is closer to mine in seeing Andre having a bounce back year- somewhere half way between his past elite production and last years lost season. I really do think there is a very good possibility that Alshon will struggle. He has not had the attention he will see this year and I would be ok with that based on his talent but when you add in an injury that tends to be the kind that lingers and saps explosiveness- that worries me. I am fine with it even if that happens because of the upgrade in Bell over Forte (who I think will also struggle as the passing game gets shut down and D's can focus on him). Sure, I am not going group think on this- I think the trade has about 50% chance of being in my favor, 35% of being about even and 15% of me losing out (mostly due to injury risk that you never know about).

The specifics of this trade aside, the larger point is trades should only be denied if collusion can be proved. And other owners should never be allowed to vote on trades.

Not playing him in preseason games to rest him makes sense.

Not practicing at all is a red flag and its foolish to ignore it.

Agree with this. Looks like he's the dreaded 50/50 game time decision, I really hope this isn't the case all year.

Limited Practice on Thur... I believe he plays with him getting limited wed and thur. He will probably be limited again tomorrow but I believe he goes on SUN against the pack. Biggs can Bite it.. LOL

With him playing sunday ill be happy with 4 catches 60 yards. Anything more would just be extra. If he has a miracle game and puts up huge numbers like i said before I'm moving him. I do not trust the bears offense with jay cutler at qb. i think he is hilarious during some of his press conferences and would be a great guy to go get a beer with but playing qb he is like riding a roller coaster, You get his ups but you also get his downs.

This thread has me worried. Was hoping not to have this problem week 1. I'll have to make a decision tonight as my replacement is Amendola.

was just trying to paint an extreme picture
Well ya aint Bob Ross, homey
Im a little young for whoever that is. only 22
Italian Renaissance master. Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, Michelangelo and Bob.

John Fox talked about Jeffrey today after practice, not sure how helpful this is:

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery (calf) practiced on a limited basis for the second consecutive day in advance of Sunday’s regular-season opener against the Green Bay Packers.

“He looks pretty functional and he looks pretty good,” Bears head coach John Fox said. “We’re just taking it one day at a time and we’ll see where that brings us.

“I think everything was on target and we’ll evaluate him and see what he can do tomorrow.”
Eddie Royal and Marquess Wilson are also on the injury report ... so ... yeah.

(Does that seriously help a team get a leg up on an opponent? Seriously?)

This is my hunch as well.

Wondering who you'll start over Alshon Sunday. Even if he plays, my fear is he'll be limited.

I'm starting Allen Robinson over Alshon.
