Official Bishop Sankey - Best RB in the 2014 Draft (1 Viewer)

He reminds me a lot of Lamar Miller last year. A lot of hype, but little production. I think both guys spent sometime on half the rosters in my league each year. Dropped, added, traded, traded again, etc.

This draft class was so weak at RB a lot of people went back to the william green and tj duckett draft. At this point, I don't know on Sankey. He may be like them. They should have had good careers as the backups that can carry the load, not franchise backs. Misplaced, I think their careers would have been different.

With Sankey, I do not see the put your head down and take the 3 yards toughness. Every franchise back has some hard hat runs even LJ when he averaged 8 per carry. Every play isn't dance around or use your wiggle, sometimes ya gotta put a hit on the defender and wear them down.

This week Leon got the call, IMO, because he would get it done. Its not that sankey would fumble or something, but that shovel pass was just one play; there's no way sankey times it and takes what he gets. He'd try and run the opposite direction or stop.

Other times shonn greene has been a pile mover and been praised. One game he was impressive but the others he wasn't. I think that's why whisenhunt brought attention to it.

Today, he doesn't look better or all that different than Leon or McCluster as a rb.

He might have it in him and I just don't see it. Surely mark ingram has improved and others too.

I think antonio andrews gets ten seconds to prove himself and if not, they get a pile mover in the offseason.

Don't forget CJ was only good at this one or two years. Sankey walked into a spot where they were looking for a traditional back more like eddie george. The fancy feet can't put head down is a tired act in tennessee

(RotoWire)Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt said Saturday that Sankey could return kicks in Monday's game against the Steelers, if necessary, John Glennon of The Tennessean reports.

Analysis: Dexter McCluster and Leon Washington are both questionable, and it seems likely at least one of the two will play. Even if neither suits up, there's no guarantee the Titans will use Sankey on returns, as it would be rather unusual for a team's lead back to serve that role. In the unlikely event Sankey ends up returning kicks, the slight possibility of a return touchdown is a poor trade for the extra fatigue and injury risk, at least in leagues that don't award points for return yards.

Titans Bishop Sankey looks to exploit weakened Steelers' run-defense

The Titans will need to get ahead on early downs through their biggest offensive strength - running the football. Getting into long passing situations will bring out a surging Steelers' pass-rush that has 10 sacks in its last three games.

Titans running back Bishop Sankey was surprised when it was announced he would represent the Titans in the Monday Night Football promo for this week. The Steelers naturally are represented by Ben Roethlisberger. The wide-eyed rookie stands next to one of the league's top quarterbacks.

Perhaps it's a vote of confidence from the production crew for the kind of game Sankey might have when the Titans host the Steelers in Week 11.

With Dexter McCluster and Leon Washington both nursing injuries, Sankey could take on an expanded role in the Titans' passing offense. As far as the ground game goes, that's the Titans strength. Their strong run-blocking offensive line is capable of paving holes for whichever back the Titans have in there, which strongly suggests Sankey should be on whatever promo is out there.

He could be their main weapon in this game.

The Steelers are down nose tackle Steve McLendon, safety Troy Polamalu and linebacker Ryan Shazier, on top of the absences of cornerback Ike Taylor and outside linebacker Jarvis Jones, who both have been out for several weeks. While the Steelers' run-defense has been better this year than last, it's still not a formidable unit game-to-game. Tennessee's best bet against the Steelers is to stay out of long downs and not requiring rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger to do a whole lot.

As soon as they get into deep-passing situations, the Steelers' weaknesses up front turn into advantages. Their pass-rush has picked up considerably from where it started the season (10 sacks in their last three games vs. 10 in their first seven games combined) and, facing a quarterback who has appeared slow to make reads and deliver the ball, the Steelers should be able to rack up another four-sack game like they've had in two of their last four games.

The Steelers' defense is a good play in Fantasy this week, and it wouldn't be surprising to see Sankey get a healthy amount of touches against a weakened Steelers' run-defense.

Even if he's a bust 3 years from now, he's gotta have the odd big game. You'd think this week should be one of those games. I hope so, starting him and need a win.

He said earlier it'd be Wright and he said it like it was a no-brainer. I'm gonna guess they got Sankey prepared and he's the #2 option now.

Rotoworld:

Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt was impressed with Bishop Sankey's running in Monday's loss even though he managed only 38 yards on 11 carries (3.45 YPC).

"I thought he was physical, I thought he was decisive, he was better with his reads," Whisenhunt said. "Those are things where you’ve seen improvement." Whiz was slow to come around on his rookie back, but has now made a habit of defending him even in the face of mediocre performances. Sankey is averaging just 3.87 yards per carry, and has yet to surpass 61 yards on the ground. He'll be a mid-range FLEX option for Sunday's game against the Eagles.

Sankey is 3rd among Rookies in Yards After Contact at 2.5 behind Jerick McKinnon and Jeremy Hill. (Via PFF)

He also has the highest Run rating at 4.0 among Rookies.

Sankey ran weak a few times and seemed to be pulled for Greene. Next series he was tough-best running I've seen all year. In my opinion, this has been holding him back considerably and if he continues to run hard, they'll consider him a franchise back.

Bishop Sankey rushed 10 times for 37 yards and caught two passes for 14 yards in Sunday's Week 12 loss at Philadelphia.
There are a lot of problems with Sankey right now. First of all, he's not showing any quickness through the hole or an ability to make defenders miss in tight spaces -- as evidenced by zero games over 4.0 YPC since Week 4. He also lost a weak fumble Sunday as Benny Logan stripped him. And finally, Sankey is losing all goal-line work to Shonn Greene and pass-down work to Dexter McCluster. Sankey would be a weak play at Houston in Week 13.

they tried to run and looked like they were going to give it a good shot with the Texans blitzing, but their Ts were terrible. Walker made some awesome blocks, missed on some, ....loved the effort. Still it felt hopeless.

Whisenhunt about benched Battle despite him having a great season for a FB.

When Sankey had room, he didn't do the tough runs that Whisenhunt has been all over him for. Everything he did last week was gone and it was week one again. It's very odd that an NFL coach has to constantly get on a RB to run tougher; now that the results are so favorable ....Sankey just has to do it.

He's got four weeks or so to make them decide not to draft his replacement. No NFL team enters a season with a 5-600 yard back and no other options.

112 carries in 12 games is certainly not enough to go on, their O-line stinkin'....it's still going to be him that's blamed.

I want other positions and a new coach, not RB! but he might not even get to 500 now

Antonio Andrews was active this week and took over KR duties. He had oh 21 22 or so average.

He got one carry. Looking at NFL.com I think they gave it to Leon.

The stereotypical put your head down and bully for more yards, Sankey doesn't do.
Andrews is from Western Kentucky(?) and been on their PS all year til recently. I've been expecting them to get a look at him and today they got a smidge. I'd guess in the final three he gets some carries maybe even a significant amount if he gets a hot hand. Today Greene was inactive so Andrews could play.

Around here, some people like him in predraft and a handful when the Titans signed him as UDFA.

He is a tough runner and Whisenhunt has been all over Sankey for that, which makes Andrews seem more significant. What I think is they want to know if they've got a backup RB here. Best case, he does well and has a nice camp and pushes Sankey next year.

Sankey though will never be a franchise back until he decides to get his hands dirty often. He had one week where he did it and Whisenhunt praised him and guys here seemed to like it. No clue why he stopped, it was like the light went on.

Here's a snip from Titans site

COLLEGE:
• During his four-year career at Western Kentucky, appeared in 42 games, starting 25 contests, including starts in his last 24 appearances. Notched 3,674 yards with 29 touchdowns on 618 carries (5.9 avg.). Scored 198 points on 33 total touchdowns and amassed 6,799 all-purpose yards, an average of 161.9 yards per game.

AS A SENIOR (2013), started all 12 contests and rushed for 1,730 yards to break his own school record by two yards. Rushed for a career-high 16 touchdowns on 267 carries (6.5 avg.).
• Named Sun Belt Conference Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year by The NFL Draft Report. Was a finalist for the Paul Hornung Award and Lee Roy Selmon Spirit Award and a semi-finalist for the Doak Walker Award.

Most guys drafted him early in dynasty mostly based on situation/environment. Sankey was supposed to be the unquestioned lead back on a team with a plus above line. His detractors conceded this but stuck with the idea that he'll succeed early despite his ability.

Reality has not lined up with expectation. Wiz is almost certainly gone (and has been a bottom 2 coach all year) as well.

I have no idea if Sankey is a capable NFL rb at this stage. Right now he looks as good as dead, but how can you properly evaluate Sankey when the Titans as a whole have been an absolute disgrace all season. They are the worst coached team in the league right now. Just an absolute mess across the board. Now in saying that it is concerning that Sankey is not flashing very much at all, but there will be a new regime in town next year. As a second round pick that has some talent he will still have an opportunity to carve out a role and turn into a player.

The stereotypical put your head down and bully for more yards, Sankey doesn't do.
If the Titans wanted a RB to do this then why didn't they draft Jeremy Hill or Carlos Hyde? They certainly could have done so. But instead they drafted Sankey as the first RB in the 2014 draft.

As others have mentioned part of the value for Bishop Sankey was with the expectation that the Titan offensive line was a quality unit that should help any RB. The Titans were considered the choice destination for a free agent or rookie RB. The Titans did not sign anyone significant in free agency and drafted Sankey to fill that role.

Perhaps the scouting department was not in tune with the coaching staff when they made this decision?

Could you talk about the offensive line play? Is this no longer a strength of the team?

Whole sale changes to the coaching staff means a clean slate and open competition for the starting RB position.

:goodposting:

Bingo. Especially with a guy that's been underwhelming to say the least. Your post pretty much hit everything on the head. You can't really argue about opportunity (which he's unquestionably had) or talent (complete lack of flashing)

Greg Cosell nailed this on the head with his draft assessment.

Only one of the Titans' regular offensive line starters – guard Andy Levitre – was a full participant in practice on Wednesday.

Tackles Taylor Lewan (ankle) and Michael Oher (toe) did not practice, and guard Chance Warmack (ankle) was limited. Center Brian Schwenke (knee) was placed on injured reserve last week, replaced by Chris Spencer.

Asked about the status of the offensive line, Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt had a brief response: "Not great."

Warmack said he should be ready to play on Sunday against the Giants, but the status of the starting tackles isn't as clear. The Titans added tackle Terren Jones to the 53-man roster on Tuesday.

"I really don't know about their chances," Whisenhunt said. "We'll have to see as it progresses. We signed another tackle. Obviously it's something we needed to do because of where we are with the line, and hopefully those guys will continue to get better."

Thanks I didn't realize so many of their offensive linemen were injured now.

I did see some flashes of Sankey being the same player he was in college earlier on in the season. But that was likely when more of the linemen were still healthy.

I did in another thread. This is coming up often now in discussions. The owner has finally voiced his displeasure. Midseason it was as if steadfast support for GM and coach. Now, it seems he's changing but yet won't bad mouth them directly in public. I'm still learning to read him, but I will say this much-he is far more upset with the team now than last year and Munchak was let go. That midseason support was either status quo for any owner or genuine. It's still hard to read what the results will be, but he's definitely displeased.

The Titans had at least a decade with either a top DL or a DL that could perform as such on a given week. They lost their coach to the Eagles maybe four years ago. The OL was fantastic for probably 20ish years. 3 HOF linemen and many names people just know. Last year they were coached by a HOF lineman and had a head coach as a former HOF lineman.

Leveon is flourishing behind a Munchak line and Big Ben has had some amazing games.

In STL, they have a ridiculous DL and their OL has definitely had their moments.

The offseason started with them saying they couldn't afford pro bowl RT Dave Stewart then spending about that same amount of money on Michael Oher. Some Ravens fans laughed at that $ and I was grumpy because I knew he wasn't good. Stewart was hurt, but it was not presented as he won't be healed up for a whole 'nother year. Stewart is old.

Opposite him for 8-9 years has been Michael Roos. A very high level tackle that has been overshadowed by some of the game greats. His career average is roughly 4-5 sacks allowed per season. That's HOF, best of, type sacks allowed numbers for a left tackle. He was drafted in the same draft as Stewart. Whisenhunt didn't seem to want him but oh I guess we'll stick with him. Lewan was drafted to replace him. Roos totally overwhelmed Whisenhunt and he said he was wayyyy off on his evaluation of Roos and called him one of the best lineman he's ever been around.

For near the same 8-9 years, the Titans have had one of the best blocking TEs ever in Craig Stevens.

Oher was outplayed by backups in camp and there was talk he might get cut but were concerned of his contract and what if he doesn't make the team, is it guaranteed still etc.

He has stunk. I'll give him that on a few plays he is an absolute beast of a run blocker like he suddenly turns into big mike williams in college, but otherwise he's been brutally bad.

Roos got hurt 4-5 weeks back.

Lewan filled in at RT as Oher was pulled. He played other spots on the line. When Roos was hurt, Lewan stepped in. He was finally an as advertised draft pick. He moves his feet so well and so much, he's dancing as he blocks. It's awesome. His first start he had JJ Watt and either a sign of respect or a sign of Oher's poor play, Watt tagged the DE on the shoulder and switched sides to shift away from Lewan. The Titans like to run right(well with other backs) and that makes me think Lewan might be perfect for the RT spot despite the tradition that LT is the best lineman. Those feet moving in the run game....he's a great looking youngster.

Levitre stunk the first four games or so, then publicly apologized, and has done oh so much better since. When he gets beat, he is at the DTs feet trying til the last second. Several sacks were totally not on him but a generic high school level stunt that his new T playing next to him fell for. He was stuck trying to block two guys by himself.

Schwenke was OK but got fooled on blitzes up the middle whenever they played a 4-3. Specifically Mercilus seemed to own him one game.

Stephens got hurt in week 3 or 4 and played hurt for a few more weeks then went to IR.

The Titans have a useful backup TE Taylor Thompson who can play FB and put some licks on defenders. People here think he could be a talent at TE one day, but in 3 years he's only been a good blocker. He got hurt about the same time as Stephens and also went on IR. They signed Coffman and Gordon who both did pretty well.

Warmack got hurt, but Spencer provides excellent interior depth having played in the league for years. Warmack is a former top pick. He's a mean guard, real nasty that you;d probably like to run behind but I don't think he's such a great pass blocker. I think it has to do with his personality and Munchak+Matthews seemed to be all over him after passing downs but almost ignored him on running downs so I figure they thought the same. I sometimes think they should try him at DT because it's just so odd how much he loves to hit people. Anyhow, I do figure he develops into a fine pro, but I think it's later than they wanted him to reach that point.

Battle has been great. Maybe best blocking FB in NFL. I have loved his play on so many occasions. Since Mett took over, Whis took him out and he's barely played. This infuriates me as they're down linemen due to injuries soooo I want the FB extra blocker.

Svitek might have had a day or two in New England but JPP and Watt have shown he is horrible and should be cut. He was the fourth LT this season.

Stingily is a good tackle we've been fortunate to have as depth. I think he leaves and surprises stealing a starting spot on another team. He came in for Lewan but since they run right, when Oher got hurt he moved over and Svitek became the LT. Watt's day came against Svitek and the video that was out had him talking about how he was chomping at the bit to go against him.

They signed someone from the Saints who basically got called for penalties. I don't recall anything else.

Last week Stingily got hurt. During the week, they signed this mammoth guy that bounced around two teams this year, last with the Ravens I believe. 6-7 340 pounds. He came in and JPP ran at him maybe 3-4 plays then switched to go back at Svitek. I want to see this mountain. The Titans might have a steal if he can block and not just be huge but at the moment I'd prefer 5 of him.

As the line has broken down, Spencer and Levitre have played worse and worse. They're the vets and haven't kept them together.

The Titans offense has bugged me so much this year. They can pass so well for a series or two in the first and then late in the fourth. In between, has oh so often been 3 quarters of a Gibbs, Parcells, Cowher type bulldozing ball control offense. Sankey had holes Emmitt would have loved. So what one LB nearby, juke him, stiff arm him, give him a shoulder...ya gotta be used to that! but instead he goes down. Whisenhunt would put Shonn Greene in and at times he ran like he was on the Jets and Roger Craig would be proud. That's what Whisenhunt wanted Sankey to do. Leon has been used because he can pickup the blitz, catch a pass, and puts his head down when he runs. I think casual fans think there's this five six foot hole with no one around and the RB just walks through. On most every play, one guy is their's to beat a safety or LB. Sankey did it in college, he did it in preseason, then...it was like what happened? So after a game where Green played uncharacteristically well and Sankey was pulled, he returned to show his own beast mode. It was sweet and yeah after that first tackler, he got some open field to make some moves and use his speed. Next game, he went back to getting taken down by the first guy.

There were a couple Detroit runners this board loved that had similar garbage where they looked sweet but ugh they only got a yard.

Against the Giants, they tried to run a few series and Sankey went down right away. They can't pass block. They'd run all day but he's not cutting it.

Andrews, like I said earlier is looking for a backup spot. He is, however, a tough runner that even showed some toughness on his kick returns. I think it'll be "See Sankey?" as Andrews does well at RB, and then Sankey will come in and do it. There's something gun shy about him-a terrible habit or hesitation they gotta break or he won't have much of an NFL career. Sankey is the bluechip and Andrews is trying to be a regular on the roster. Big difference between them now, it's not stealing a spot.

It's not that the Titans were looking for Mike Alstott. Heck they have a beast RB in Battle if they wanted that. It's the very common down on first contact thing that oh so many RBs have infuriated NFL fans with for decades.

Leon was signed to be the KR and RB depth. It wasn't supposed to be their franchise back as the KR. What makes an NFL coach decide to switch the old guy and the star rookie? Gotta think on that if you're a Sankey fan pretending it's just line play.

McCluster had some years where he was about wasted in KC. He's been like that in TEN. If he's in, he gets the rock 90% of the time. He hasn't at all been used creatively. He barely plays WR and he sure wasn't Kendall Wright's replacement as Whisenhunt said he'd be in preseason when he said he was the only one quick enough dynamic enough to fill that role. Whisenhunt has completely whiffed on two of the NFL's more exciting playmakers in these two. I do hope he's gone and if so, I can totally envision a buddy rubbing it in as Wright does extremely well in 2015. There's games and game threads where us or announcers are pointing out over n over that he is wide open on almost every play yet he doesn't get a target for a half or more. I really think he might be the quickest WR in the NFL-I mean stop, go, turn, explode...he has ridiculous body control. Most teams last year didn't cover him but hit him after he caught it playing a zone. This year there's been some of that, but they've also gone man because Locker and Whitehurst threw behind his speed instead of leading him-it was easier for the DB to catch it more often than for Wright to.

I mention Wright and McCluster because there's been so much wrong with what Whisenhunt said he'd do and what he actually did, but I don't think Sankey fans can jump on this bandwagon. He gets chances every week and keeps flopping. People come in the game threads and ask if Sankey is even in the game after he starts with like 7 carries for 18 yards. He stunk, he got a chance and stunk. They'll go to him again to start the third and we'll see. They always do and....I think that's on him.
