What is better - QLED, UHD??

Also looking for a new TV - I would like to purchase a 43" with a soundbar.

I prefer LG or Samsung based on my research, but talk me out of this and help me find a great deal.
QLED is the type of LED, means it uses smaller LEDs. UHD is the type of definition, it's ultra high definition. At 43" not sure it matters a ton unless you're sitting on top of the TV. TCL is the best bang for the buck for a number of years per cnet, you can get a 65" 4k TCL QLED for like 600 bucks, the 55" is 500

I want a 65" 4k tv for less than $300 with reviews that don't talk about poking your finger through the screen.  It can be dumb.

Help me, internet!!
Ok starting to look like that WalMart tv is the best deal going.

Alright.. Looking for a great deal on either Nest WiFi, eero, or Orbi mesh router.  Gotta be something out there, huh?
Nest WiFi (the new Google wifi) is 229 or a 2 pack at most stores or 289 (I think) for 3 at Best buy.

I got a 2 pack at Target earlier

The new ones supposedly have better range so you only need 2 where the old ones needed 3.

Got the Phillips Android TV, the next stage in the Pav family Cut the Cord initiative.

Frankly I don't care about the smart features since I'm going with the Amazon ecosystem, but that $278 price tag for 65" 4k couldn't be beat. It's up and running and looks great. No complaints from the experience at WalMart to the TV no itself.  I'm a happy camper!

What are the steps you're taking now? I'm probably following shortly. Need to have a good plan 🙂

Looking for outside patio bluetooth speakers and GPS unit. Looking at these two deals on Amazon:

GPS

Speakers

Anybody know about these things?
I’ve had a few high brand name Bluetooth speakers that I’ve used outdoors. I can say without a doubt the best ones have been the UE Boom 2. Looks like they’ve come down in price and you can find for around $60.

Fixed.  UHD is the 4k resolution which is available in either OLED or QLED TVs.  It does not belong in the equation.
that's true.

But that's not how they're advertised.

Stores promote TV as OLED or QLED. If they're neither, they'll mark them as UHD.

Maybe already mentioned, but Hulu's deal for this year is $1.99/month for one year.

Last year it was 99 cents.

Still a good deal though.

Nice :hifive:  What are your costs for monthly internet? I think I'm going the youtube TV via firestick route(+Netflix and Prime which we already have anyway).

Gig Internet 59.99+UTube TV 49.99, saving us about $150 a month compared to current cable bill(3 Tivo boxes +sports package).

I pay too much, been meaning to call Frontier to reup my discount. Right now it's $140 for Fios plus phone, should be able to knock that down to $115 or so.

I don't use cell data either and have 4 kids so the router does heavy duty already.

I looked into YouTube tv but with the OTA and NFL I get everything we're going to need that it would have brought.

YouTube TV is weird. There are no channel numbers. So you have to go go the guide and scroll down to the channel you want. Luckily you can rearrange the guide to put all your channels close to each other, but the no channel numbers is really hard to wrap your head around. We had it. We switched to AT&T streaming which is about the same money if you birch about the box rentals and they just give them to you like they did with us.

Solid plan.

Look up the cinema apk in the Terrerium thread (thread title ought to be changed).  And all NFL games can be streamed live free at nflbite dot com.  On firestick just use a browser to navigate to the website.

here’s a random deal... i love my waterpik, but now i see the waterpik sonic fusion, a toothbrush and waterpik all in one.  sells for around $150-, but you can get it at kohl’s for $101- after their 15% coupon.  then kohl’s has a $20- rebate and you earn $30- back in kohl’s cash to spend next next week.  so it comes out to $51-.  ends today.

I reached out to Eeros for an answer and for those that might have the same question as I did:

“Thanks for contacting Eero Support! I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about eero. There are a couple of main differences between a three pack of eero Pros and the 1 Pro and 2 Beacon pack. I'll go ahead and outline the differences below.

eero Pros have optional ethernet ports that you can hardwire other devices to, while Beacons are only able to be used wirelessly. eero Pros are also tri-band, whereas Beacons are dual-band. So Pros are a little more powerful than Beacons.

Pros also have a larger coverage area than Beacons. eero Pros have a range of 1,750 square feet, while Beacons offer 1,500 square feet.

If you do not need any extra ethernet ports, and are content with the dual-band option, the Beacon may be a good choice for you. If you prefer a tri-band option, a larger range, and ethernet ports, than the Pro is the best option.”

I found it to be, by a wide margin, the worst interface of any streaming service I've tried so far.  It was actively offensive to me during the Olympics to try to find anything - I just gave up and used the subscription to log in to the NBC Sports app, otherwise I would have just canceled it and given up on the Olympics.

Final haul:

  • Ladder from Home Depot (on my list)
  • PS4 and PSVR from Meijer (wife decided she wanted it)
  • Charging cord from Amazon (on my list)
  • Basement small TV from Amazon (on my list)
  • Pack of Tiles (on my list)
  • Shoes for me and son from Zappos (on my list)
Only item from my list that I didn't get was a power bank + charger since it didn't go on sale.

Haha - I went to the link to paste it in here and it finally did go on sale.  I'll get it now.

I just purchased a Samsung 43" (LED Q60 Series 2160p 4K UHD).

I currently have Amazon Prime, Netflix and Disney+.

A few questions for everyone:

- Do I need an antenna if I just purchase a Youtube TV? This should give me all local channels, plus "basic" cable type options to watch sports teams in my market. If I purchase YouTube TV, does Comcast/Xfninty be needed for anything beyond Internet? Does anyone upgrade to a higher speed?

- What is the best streaming service that will get me local sports, AMC/TNT/NFL Network along with local TV Stations?

- NFLBite.com should allow me to watch NFL games through an app. I haven't messed with the TV just yet, but can I simply log in and go into that site to watch?

I'm not actually paying at all for the Prime, Netflix and Disney+.

Any holes with this plan?

My current Xfinity Cable/Internet plan is about $170.00 (no premium channels). I think YouTube is $50-60 a month, Internet is probably about the same.

I wouldn't think so.

I have 75/75 fiber optic and the bandwidth is enough for me and my family (6 of us total).

Anything with a PS4 that could be seen as educational for kids in the 6-8 year old range to help me sell the purchase?

Both the wife and oldest son needed new phones (or battery replacements on almost 4 year old phones). I took advantage of the Walmart e-giftcard deals on new phones. Stopped in yesterday afternoon, reserved two phones with an 8pm appointment to activate them (AT&T). The guy at the counter was nice enough to warn me that one of their 2 activation computers were down, so 8 pm was a loose estimate, but it basically gave me my place in line. Needless to say, my son and I got there at 7:45, and didn’t get out til almost 1am. Most polite (and realistic) Walmart employee ever. Dude was supposed to be off work when appointments ended at 10pm. He stayed to get everyone in line finished with the process.

In the end, 1x iPhone XR 64GB ($600), 1x iPhone 11 128 GB ($750). Already have both e-giftcards in my email. ($700 total). With carriers demanding a new line to get a decent discount, I’m pretty happy about basically getting $700 for 6 hours total of my time.

How much internet mbps do I need if I get rid of cable and go with streaming? I currently have 'Extreme Internet at $90/mo 300mbps.

In my area:

Performance (100 mbps) = $70.00

Blast (200 mbps) = $80.00

Extreme (300 mbps) = $90.00

Anyone have any useful sites to check if there are any other Internet providers in the area that are better than Xfinity?

From a streaming only, using the Internet for work, etc. what do I need? I currently have Extreme as part of a bundle.

I have blast and stream everything with 0 issues

What do you guys do with these things?  Like what are you losing all the time?
I used it last night at 1 AM to find my son's diabetes test kit.

We have them on:

  • Kid 1 test kit
  • Kid 2 test kit
  • One kid's Kindle
  • One kid's bike saddlebag - he rides with a mountain bike team, and sometimes I'm with a different group.  If he were to have a severe low blood sugar, there's a chance this could help find him.
  • College kid's keys
Summary: If we didn't have 2 kids with T1 diabetes, we probably wouldn't have them.

Apparently AT&T is not in my area for Internet, they have some provider called HughesNet. From a quick review, they don't have the best on-line reviews.

They are offering me $49.99 monthly for 10GB.

Hughesnet is satellite internet. Hard Pass. And it's likely 10Mb not Gb.

Likely means 10GB total data, with no mention of speed.

Per their own FAQ:

HughesNet Gen5 is faster than ever, with download speeds of 25 Mbps and upload speeds of 3 Mbps on every plan.
