***Official CFB NCG Thread: Ohio wins; Joe T shamed once again*** (1 Viewer)

Mariota: "The ball doesn't bounce your way sometimes."

Please...
It actually bounced their way a lot.

I feel bad for kids they put on the spot like that. He's 19 or 20 years old, how do you expect him to answer that?
True, but the ball literally did nothing but bounce their way. 9 turnovers in 2 games.
Exactly.

Congrats to all the Oregon fans on a great season. They truly deserved to be in the Championship game and they have a great program.

The greatest display of coaching in College football history just ended with an exclamation point by Meyer. Beating those teams with your third qb? Outrageous. Congrats to the team and their fans. You deserve that one.

Just coming in to take my proper plate of crow if someone can point me to the buffet. I know there is gonna be a long line with me :lmao:

Well done boys !

Man with all those fumbles and that Oregon player (clearly IMO) fumbled before he scored. To win by 22 OSU really dominated this game.

Yes Marcus, the ball did bounce your way about 4-5 times to OSU's none.

Fun game, good times, go Bucks.

In the end, to be fair, those were two brutal third down drops in the first half. I don't think the result changes but maybe it tightens.

When jones almost put that noseguard on his but I screamed and jumped lot of my chair at the bar. Because it was impressive and I can only imagine what would have happened to me in the film room as an old dlinemen to get trucked by a qb no matter how big he was. Put him with zeke.

Maybe it's crazy I almost think they don't win with Barrett. Jones was such a matchup problem on those scrambles. Never was a qb like that this side of young Big Ben who could deliver that kind of impact and be such a load to get down. Who has that? Who is ready for that?

Jones started three games, and received a trophy after all three. It's like he's a six year old soccer player or something.

JT Barrett just told me: "I'm not leaving. I don't think Braxton is leaving. I don't think Cardale is leaving."

I'm reminded of Lou Holtz famous line before the epic ND-FSU game: "Teams that play pitch-and-catch never really beat anyone."

Congrats to Ohio State in a well earned on-the-field championship. Beating the #1 and #2 teams like that is very impressive.

I went to the game last night. I decided that since my favorite team (OSU) was playing and I live in Dallas, I'd regret not going. I'm sitting at work this morning wearing my National Championship T-shirt, and yeah, I would have regretted not going.

Just a few comments before I waste the rest of my day at work reading the game thread:

- Wow, Oregon moves fast. I hadn't really watched them play this year but it's incredible how quickly they play. There was a turnover in the first half and on their next possession they went even faster which was crazy to watch.

- Ezekiel Elliott is a monster. That's all I can say.

- If you would have told me before the game that OSU would turn the ball over 4 times, I would have expected them to lose by 30. The defense played out of this world.

- What a great game. It's a whole lot more fun to be there when your team wins. :)

Pretty clearly has football figured out. Should probably be the one to declare.

Brings up an interesting question: If Cardale Jones declared, where would he be drafted?

Under the old bowl system, which I still prefer, the Big10 and PAC10 champions would have played each other on New Years day. Ohio St. would have a very strong claim to be national champion, depending on how Alabama, FSU, TCU and others did in their respective bowl games. We'd still be arguing about it on sports radio and message boards everywhere. That was part of the fun for me. I guess it's nice to have One True Champion though, so everyone agrees and there's nothing to talk about and the playoff was a great success, right? Awesome performance the last three games by Ohio St.

So what would the matchups have been?

Rose - OSU vs UO

Sugar - Alabammy vs ...TCU?

Fiesta - Baylor vs ...Sparty?

Orange - FSU vs ...Miss St?

And FSU would have eked out a win and a 1984 BYU-level National Championship

OSU has been recruiting at an uber-elite level since Meyer got there. It was evident on both lines last night.

That's the way I thought the Rose Bowl would go. <_<

OSU essentially took the Stanford game plan, with better and more athletes than Stanford, and dominated. I hope I don't jinx things but I can't wait to watch some of these games between Harbaugh and Meyer.

I'm a bit older, so the Cotton Bowl was a big part of the magic of new years day in my youth. This was my guess back in early December:

Orange: TCU v Florida St.

Cotton: Baylor v Mississippi St.

Rose: Oregon v Ohio St.

Sugar: Bama v Michigan St.

Yeah, under this scenario the best team wouldn't have won the national championship. I'm not sure how anyone can prefer rewarding undeserving teams with national titles, but I'm not sure why people ever bough Yugo's either.

I prefer it out of nostalgia, but also think it was a better experience when the bowl tie-ins mattered. New Year's day used to be an awesome sports day, with Keith Jackson, Brent Musberger, a hangover, my friends and the four big bowl games backtobacktobacktoback. For me in Big Ten country, the Rose Bowl was always the big one. My mom would watch the parade, my dad and I the game. As I got older, the magic of New Years day football got even better. This year, the Rose Bowl was a semi-final and the big game was on a Monday night, which sucks. The vague national championship was always a fun part of college football and I couldn't care less that the current system adds some clarity to that - it is nearly meaningless to me.

Well, we can always argue about who would have won between Oregon and Bama. Pretty sure Bama whips em...

If not for those early turnovers this could have been real ugly.
Maybe. And If Oregon had not made a few mistakes and stopped themselves in the first half, they might have taken a larger lead in the 1st half and this would have been an entirely different game.

If these teams played 10 times, I think Oregon would win 5 of them.
based on what?
Based on I don't think Oregon would be held to 20 points very often. That's the best offense in football this year. I think half of the time they get out to a big lead which takes away the Buckeye's running game. In those games we see a repeat of Oregon-Florida State. I get that tonight this is going to seem like a crazy opinion but that's what I think. Remember, I'm only saying they win half of the time.
Do you think OSU turns the ball over 4 times?
No. But I also think Oregon isn't stopped within the 10 3 times either.

Look, the Buckeyes were clearly the better team tonight. There is no doubt. They deserve the National Championship. But it's one game and if you played a series, I think the results would be very close.

This will be my last post. I offered my honest opinion but I'm not trying to troll or anything. Again, congrats to all the Buckeyes fans.
The issue is you are ignoring THE reason Oregon keeps losing these games...this scheme with these players won't beat physical, good-tackling, athletic teams consistently. You'll be saying 'if Oregon isn't stopped within the 10 3 times' over and over.

I could see Jones going in the 3rd/4th. I think an ideal spot for him to land would be behind a guy like Luck in Indy. He could learn during his rookie contract and then move on to his bigger payday. If he goes somewhere that needs him sooner, he could blow his chances for $$$ (or do great I guess) :D

Tim makes a good point about the OSU running game. Bama got up 21-6 and OSU basically abandoned the run. Elliot was only able to rush for 230 yds instead of the 246 he got last night.

####### love that this is a great game!!!!! Love it!!!!!
For everyone that said OSU didn't belong, you can go #### yourselves right in the #####.Great game.
Enjoy it, because Oregon will slap the taste out of your mouth.
What rock has this ###### crawled under?
Yea New Money fans were really arrogant leading up to this game. Bizarre. Except GM.

Win something first before running off at the mouth.

The ones that are around, however, are complaining about that last TD. And when questioned about running up the score on FSU are surprised you would even bring that up. At least those in my neck of the woods. I have a very good friend and neighbor that is a FSU alum and he was texting me all night, hoping Urban would onside that last kickoff and go for another.

I love that Nike was even pulling for OSU. I agree with you I was overestimating the Oregon brand. Nike will only be able to take it so far.

More like Arizona where Palmer is simply holding the QB spot for someone. Arians would love to have Jones and cut Thomas.
