** OFFICIAL ** Cleveland Guardians thread - spring training (1 Viewer)

Every now and then I'm disappointed that I can't watch the tribe down in Reds country.  The games are on every now and then, but mainly I just check MLB Tonight or QuickPitch to catch the highlights.  This last series against the White Sox, I'm glad I couldn't watch it.  Ooof it looked bad, just from the highlights.  Cookie and Danny seemed to pitch well, but where was the offense?  Yandy looked good at 3B on one night, and I heard he was not so good last night.  And what happened to our bullpen?  Why was MM out there tossing up meatballs in the 9th inning?!?  That's great that he threw a scoreless inning, but he looked like a fan throwing out the first pitch of the game.  Ugh...Good to see Lonnie back.  Optioning Naquin was interesting.  How soon until Kipnis returns?  Just his presence at 2B will help defensively, as JRam goes back to 3B.

Gave this a shot last night, and it didn't even show the Indians listed.  Is there a way to trick the location finder?  It automatically detected the Cincy location and defaulted to that without giving me an option to change.  If I turn location off and plug in a Cleveland zip, I'm assuming that would work?  Does STO appear on the FSG App?

Will I be able to stream Indians games this season?
Yes. If you are a customer of a participating pay-TV provider and receive SportsTime Ohio as a part of your channel line-up, you will be able to stream SportsTime Ohioâs telecasts on FOX Sports GO.

Do you know anyone closer to Cleveland that will let you use their provider login?

Good question.  Maybe.  I have some family up in Columbus that I don't really talk to anymore.  I'll reach out and ask.  Worst case we continue not talking to each other.  Best case, Indians fans can celebrate wins on mobile devices!   :D

After 14 games in 2016 the Indians were 7-7 and in fourth place in the AL Central, 3 games out of first. Despite high expectations this season, again at 7-7 they are in a better position than last season.

It's still so early in the season.  I think of April as the "rust-breaking" month.  It seems like it's so easy to do bad in April and still come back and take charge in the later months.  I actually prefer a team to come out slow at the start and then heat up, vs coming out hot and trying to maintain.

#IndiansTwitter is at it again. Some fans want Kipnis put in the OF just so Yandy Diaz can stay in C-town. :loco:  The kid needs to play everyday and with Kip back tonight, that isn't likely to happen. Diaz will be back later this year I'd guess.

Just have to avoid the dreadful April's, which we know all too much about being Indians' fans.

It's pretty much the same as last year, including the sweep by an underwhelming NL team   And the bats are starting to come around. The looked good in the last 2 games of the Twins series.

Did I sound concerned?

I'll be ecstatic anytime the Tribe is .500 in April.  The true team leader is coming back tonight also.  How's that?

I'm waiting for it to be official before dropping him, but why not just move Diaz to a corner OF position and demote Almonte?

I think the OF they have is pretty much what they want. Brantley in LF, Naquin in CF and Guyer/Chiz in RF. Brantley isn't the best defensively and can't cover CF anymore. The platoon in right is the mix and match that optimizes production/defense. Naquin's still chasing high fastballs, but he holds his own defensively.

Uhh...Naquin's in C-bus.  Chis and A Jacks are running around aimlessly out there right now.

Isn't he even more suspect in the OF than at 3B?  I thought he played a pretty decent 3B to be honest.

I agree with Servo though, give him everyday ABs in the minors right now.  Work on defense at 3B and OF.

I kept hearing about his glove being an issue, but it sure didn't look it. He played everywhere in Columbus, so I thought they were preparing him for a utility role that could start several different places on an as needed basis.

Edwin Encarnacion last 3 years:

5/15/16: .237/.304/.434
5/15/15: .232/.308/.442
5/15/14: .253/.331/.506

He starts slow.

Carlos Carrasco left tonight's game with tight left pectoral muscle and Abe Almonte left with re-aggravation of biceps injury.

Haven't been able to get in here in a bit....but wow did you see how bad Yandy was in LF about a week ago?   :X

Zimmer with the callup!     Hopefully here for good...

Roster moves:

Purchased contract of Bradley Zimmer from CBus
Shawn Armstrong recalled
Abe to 10-day DL
Yandy optioned to CBus
Frias DFA

I suspect it may be like Diaz; get some PT and a few ABs, and then back down 71 when the chance for both goes down. But we shall see.
Right, I'm hoping he makes a case for them to not send him back down.  IMO, Yandy didn't really do that, some flashes with the bat and decent at 3b, but nothing screamed at us.  I would think Zimmer will be almost everyday while Guyer and AA are out, move Chis back to RF where he belongs.

I wanted this last Sept when Naquin was struggling, so some of my excitement stems from there too.

Wife got me tix to the Tribe vs Reds game tonight!  Sitting two rows behind the Tribe's dugout.  Can't wait!!!   :excited: :banned:

Hopefully Tomlin doesn't implode again... :scared:

I went to bed early last night because Hammy assured me that it was going to rain all night. I woke up this morning to find out we lost. :hot:

Triston McKenzie was dominating again last night. 13 K's. I was also impressed that he gave up a bomb to the first batter of the game, then shut them down for 7 innings. He's now at 84K's in 64 innings.

Hillcats designate an opposing batter every night that, when he strikes out, all Starr Hill beer is $2 off for 10 minutes. When McKenzie is on the mound, everyone just starts heading to the Starr Hill taps when the batter of the night comes to the plate.

I'm gonna miss this dude. I think he's got one more home start before (I assume) starting the Carolina League All-Star game, then I have to assume he'll be heading to Akron.

I'm going to refer to you as our Lynchburg correspondent.

Since Tito has been here, it seems like we've had a number of years where we started badly but finished strong. So I haven't been overly worried about about hanging around .500 for the first 60ish games.

What? Did Dr. Smooth get hurt celebrating his child's birth?? :wall:

The Indians activated outfielder Michael Brantley from the paternity list and placed him on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to Friday) with a right ankle sprain, the club announced on Monday afternoon.

Brantley, who welcomed his third child with his wife, Melissa, on Thursday, has not played since Wednesday, when he went 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs in a loss to the Dodgers.

Full Game Coverage

The 30-year-old outfielder was limited to just 11 games in 2016 because of a shoulder injury, but he has bounced back in 2017, batting .296 with five home runs and 28 RBIs in 54 games.

Veteran Austin Jackson figures to replace Brantley in the Indians' lineup while the veteran outfielder recovers.

Of course, the Orioles pitching staff has been a dumpster fire lately, so a split is a very good possibility. I'd like 3/4, but a split is a minimum.
