Cleveland Indians Top 20 Prospects:

1) Bradley Zimmer, OF, Grade B+: Age 23, hit .308/.403/.493 in High-A then .219/.313/.374 in Double-A, combined for 16 homers, 55 walks, 131 strikeouts, 44 steals. Had some adaption issues in Eastern League but I think he figures it out, broad skills and tools, speed, power, defense.

I went to about 40% of the games in Lynchburg last year, and he was such a joy to watch while he was here during the1st half. He just sprayed the ball all over the yard.

The season started with 3 of (I believe) the top 6 or so Indians prospects at the time in the OF. Zimmer's fantastic, but I could still see Frazier turning out to be just as good. The kid's got some power (plus it's fun to watch him get pissed off and break a bat over his knee every once in awhile). And by God, I still believe in Mike Papi.

6-5 start without Brantley works for me though.
Sweep of the Kitties does a lot for confidence...especially considering Ausmus freaked out over Shaw's rubber wedding ring.

"He can't have it on. He's rubbing the ball. I'm telling you, he's rubbing up the ball. He can't have it on, that's the rule."
:lmao: Nice job making Shaw look sympathetic with Indians fans, jagoff. :lmao:

Team has been looking good as of late.  Being 1.5 games out of first with Kluber on the mound should make for a good game tonight!

The game is in like 2 hours.  Lindor is getting the day off.  Francona is really working to keep Ramirez's bat in the lineup.  You'd think he could just take over for Uribe at 3B most days, but they've shown willingness to play Ramirez in the OF as a super util.

So far so good on the season.

I know SS in Cleveland is on lockdown for the next 15 years or so, but I'm telling you Yu Cheng-Chang will be making an impact in Cleveland one of these days.

I had one of the biggest heartbreaks in my life yesterday when I got sniped on the bidding for the Yu game worn pink Komen day jersey. My bid held up until a bidding war ensued in, literally, the last 15 seconds of bidding while the game was going on. All other players went for the opening $100-125 bids. Fans love Yu.

Other than being really, really awesome, it doesn't hurt that this plays every time he walks up to bat. You can imagine how the raucous home crowd responds.

Never seen him play 2nd, but he's going to present a nice option when a 30-something Kipnis making $13-14 million a year is nearing the end of his contract. Hell, I wouldn't put it past Yu to keep developing offensively enough to finally give CLE a decent 3B option.

MLB Draft starts this morning. Indians have picks 14, 55, 72, and 92 in the top 100.

Their previous first round picks currently on their Major league roster :

Tyler Naquin - 2012

Francisco Lindor - 2011

Lonnie Chisenhall - 2008

They haven't had a first rounder do much since CC Sabathia, who was drafted in 1998

Back to back first rounders, Zimmer and Frazier, could both be up by the end of the summer. Might turn out to be a nice little stretch for the Indians, in terms of hitting on first round picks. Even Papi finally got the call up to AA (though he'll be missed here on Mike Papi Bobblehead Night here in a couple of weeks).

Catcher Logan Ice

Ice’s defensive skills, on their own, could have persuaded a big league club to take a flyer on him. He’s started each of his three years in college, has committed just four errors, had one passed ball this year and threw out 44 percent of would-be base stealers.

I never know much about these draft prospects, but Benson and Jones sound like some pretty exciting prospects if they'll sign and I look forward to, hopefully, watching them here in Lynchburg sometime in the next couple of years.

BTW, Six Hillcats made the Carolina League All-Star team.

Bobby Bradley is striking out a lot (30%), but taking his walks and he's got massive power. Hit HR #15 last night. Last week, he hit a monster grand slam off a lefty to dead center (not a massive park, but you rarely see them go out to center here). I suspect this homestand leading up the minor league ASB will be the last we get to see of him down here.

FiveThirtyEight@FiveThirtyEight

The @Indians will have their franchise-best Elo rating since May 18, 2008 if they beat the @RaysBaseball tonight: 53eig.ht/1q9NZsI

They're only down 2-0 in the 1st inning, so it could happen

Cleveland has a chance to become the new New England. Gonna be a lot riding on the Cubs-Indians World Series.
Not sure how much sarcasm is in there, but I did think after the Cavs ended the drought I wouldn't mind the Cubs winning. Normally I can't stand the Cubs, and the Cards have been the team I've pulled for in the NL my whole life, but I think I just wanted to root against another tortured fanbase. I'll still root for the Cards in the NL, but if the Cubs won it all (not against the Tribe) I'm cool with it now. I know, that doesn't make me much of a Cards fan, but oh well. Go Tribe!

Incredible.  Not sure how this lineup is producing so many runs without Brantley, but they are.  Starting rotation better than Mets or anyone else, they are gonna win 100 games.

Anybody ever seen a game from the bar at the park where you pay $13 for SRO and your first drink is on the Tribe? I may go to the 7/6 afternoon game against the Kitties since I'm on vacation that week.
