The Stanford offense only scored 13 points, and only 3 in the 2nd half. The more they played, the more it showed how much better MSU is than Stanford. The MSU defense is as good as any in the NCAA.Michigan State has been very impressive. I would love to see them against Auburn, or Florida State, or Alabama, etc. But I wouldn't pick them to win any of those games. In fact, I wouldn't, and didn't, pick them to beat Stanford. I believe that if they played Stanford 10 times, the Cardinals win 7. And yes Slapdash, if a healthy Oregon played Michigan State on a neutral field the Ducks also win 7 out of 10. (Oregon has not been healthy since the middle of the Stanford game.)

If it wasn't for one of the most terrible pick 6's you could imagine, the final score of that game is in the ballpark of 27-10The Stanford offense only scored 13 points, and only 3 in the 2nd half. Yup, MSU was clearly the better team. Not only did they bully the snot out of Stanford, they did it without their best LB and captain of the defense. Thinking Stanford would beat them 7 of 10 times is craziness. The score of that game doesn't even reflect what happened on the field. MSU bullied Stanford. Stanford is lucky they didn't lose by 14-17.Michigan State has been very impressive. We don't know that. We do know that Sparty is better than Ohio State though. Please continue to dickride the Big 10.They're better than Auburn.Had there been an 8 team playoff this year, Sparty would have had a shot. I think they could beat anyone.
Don't forget MSU fumbling in the redone. MSU gave Stanford more than enough BIG mistakes to win that game. They were just too over matched. If it wasn't for one of the most terrible pick 6's you could imagine, the final score of that game is in the ballpark of 27-10The Stanford offense only scored 13 points, and only 3 in the 2nd half. Yeah, probably a good no-call. Borderline though.Back judge reached for his flag. Thought better of it.

I'm fine with anyone thinking Auburn is better, but it's damn close based on these numbers and what you saw from Sparty vs Ohio and Stanford. Definitely not worth an![]()
MSU's biggest perception issue is the opinion of the team they lost to. It's a lot easier for people to accept Auburn losing a night game at LSU than MSU losing at Notre Dame. I know it was a close game with a questionable PI call late, but that is I think a large part of it. The other is the conference perception. I know that's a sensitive subject but a one loss SEC team is going to get the benefit of the doubt given recent history. That's the problem, without a playoff we will never know. As an Auburn grad I still want the shot at USC from '04. Yeah I'd favor USC, but I'd like to have seen the undefeated '04 team get a shot.If it wasn't for one of the most terrible pick 6's you could imagine, the final score of that game is in the ballpark of 27-10The Stanford offense only scored 13 points, and only 3 in the 2nd half. With 4 teams at least a major conference undefeated won't be getting left out. I'd prefer 8 but it's better than what we have. With four at least it's a debate about teams who have lost.We may not know with a playoff.MSU's biggest perception issue is the opinion of the team they lost to. I think 4 is okay... The BCS would've nailed it this year. I'm happy with this years top 4 playing for the title... Someone will always have a complaint, make it 8 and all of the sudden number 9 is complaining. We don't really have a playoff. Not any ####tier than they look in what they run out there in now.I wonder how Texas will look in black jerseys and metallic orange helmets.
I'm just glad that we won't have a coach that needs a wheelbarrow to carry his gut when he leads them out on the field next year.8 team playoff would suffice for me. But yeah, I get you're point.

ing about a hypothetical matchup.
But anyone who would think Stanford would win seven out of ten after watching that real game they just played is insane. Stanford's biggest mistake that game was an interception 45 yards downfield from the line of scrimmage which was around their own 30. MSU was still 80 yards away from scoring after the turnover. It was essentially just a long punt. Wow, what a devastating mistake.
MSU on the other hand made mistake that cost the easy points and gave Stanford easy points. Yet Stanford still wasn't good enough even with those gifts to win.
That was a sloppy game by MSU, based on them having one of the best turn over ratios in the country this year. Stanford would only have a chance to win in games where MSU plays even sloppier. According to Tim, sloppier games than that one by MSU will happen in 7 of the next 9 games against Stanford. Whatever!!!![]()

Michigan State was the better team today. They were more physical. If not for the pick 6, Michigan State wins this game by 10 points or more. But its one game. Stanford has been a very physical team all year. I believe that, given 10 games, they would be more physical than MSU a majority of the time. Just my opinion, but it's not unreasonable at all.
Some of you are acting like what we watched today was like the mismatch between Alabama and Notre Dame last year. It was not. These two teams are very close. I happen to think that Stanford is better.
