My dentist's office texted me this morning to reschedule my appointment for tomorrow, which I was already thinking of doing myself.  Meanwhile, I dropped my car this morning at a service place that offers Ubers to work.  The driver tells me that a lot of Uber/Lyft drivers are refusing trips to/from LAX, due to concerns about the virus.  He then proceeds to have a 15-20 second coughing fit, after which he apologizes, saying that he had a piece of Raisin Bran stuck in his throat.  Needless to say, I couldn't get out of the car fast enough.

Now, I'm sitting in my office, debating in my head how I can get back to my own car without having to get into another Uber vehicle.  😩

WV

statewide soccer tournament has been postponed until May 4. All hotel rooms were canceled with no charge.
Schools are still open throughout the state. No confirmed Covid-19 in the state yet (to my knowledge) but as I posted before, no real testing capabilities. No medical facility (including Health Department) has any test kits locally. I have been told that there has been no word on when any would be received other than they were told “soon.”

Talked to someone today whose husband manages a janitorial company.  They are overwhelmed with calls right now, from people/companies wanting their offices/businesses cleaned.  They are also already seeing many instances of commercial toilet paper dispensers that have been damaged from people trying to break into them.  I figured that would probably happen eventually, but didn't expect it to be an issue already.  We are probably not far away from a scenario where many public restrooms having little to no TP available.

Who would have thought, a few weeks ago, that we would be talking about vandalized TP dispensers on a FF message board.  Crazy.

I read that OR and CA both put a ban on group gatherings over 250.  Which, I guess, makes sense.  But, I can't help but think.... Would I really want to go mingle with 200 people right now?  Or 100, for that matter?  States (and federal government) can only do so much.  Curbing this thing in the right direction is still going to rely heavily on people doing the right thing, watching out for the best interest of all involved, and taking necessary precautions.  A major team effort of epic proportions.

Are there any articles on a realistic prediction of how this will play out? Obviously, it's too early to be certain but would like to read something, from a doctor preferably, that gives a best case timeline.
you hope it looks a lot like korea does here.  Get a grip on it and break the exponent, and the hospitals don't go over-capacity.

As soon as you see the exponent break, you have hope.  Until then, good luck.

Ugh. I think I might have Covid-19 overload.
Wife informed me that is she going see friends of ours Saturday who work in several skilled nursing facilities in town. Ironically they are both respiratory therapists and have very little concerns about the virus. They also spent today hanging out at a casino to celebrate a birthday.

Told wife I’d prefer she not go (to drop off a birthday present) until we know what this thing is doing but she just said that I’m over reacting and need to get over it.

On top of visiting people who have very likely been exposed due to their jobs, she intends to visit her elderly parents immediately after spending time with our friends. Both have underlying medical conditions and are in their late 70s. I’m pretty pissed off about her lack of concern but starting to think I might be overreacting and need to chill out a bit.

Might need to take a break from this thread and the news. 🥴

Just hit Ralph's and Trader Joe's. What a ####show. No pasta, little canned goods. Of course no water, no tp or paper towels. Crazy lines. So surreal in those places. Regretting only getting one bottle of Woodford's. Guy at TJ's saying line of about 150 at the door before they opened. What is it going to be like next week? In two weeks?
Where the heck do you live? Nothing like that going on here in North CarolinaWhere the heck do you live? Nothing like that going on here in North Carolina

Maybe your next wife will be better

Love the scale on the first graph. Smack in the middle between 0% and 1% where you'd expect 0.5 %, they put in 0.1 % for extra confusion.

This was created to get clicks, not to present information well.
It’s a BS chart anyway. Again, it’s an underreported virus because the testing is so far behind. Show me that chart in a few months. Regardless, I’m not saying this is the end of times, but I wish people would stop puffing out their chest like it’s no biggie too.

Yeah, it's tough to know what is the right mix of "taking precautions" while still living life.  I have clients asking to meet with me, come in to drop off a payment, etc.  To tell them no seems a bit harsh.  On the other hand, there are so many other ways to pay your auto insurance.  Phone, online, etc.  I get that you like stopping by the office, but maybe tomorrow isn't the best time.

Side note.... My ex (soon to be, anyway) just told me that she works with someone who has a friend at the Pentagon, and they are currently discussing a mandatory nation-wide quarantine that would start on 3/23 and last 2-4 weeks.  First, this is obviously not verified.  Total hearsay from a third (or 4th) party removed.  But, it's also not like that thought didn't already cross my mind.  We just need to be prepared, in case that does happen.  The other thought going through my mind is that, if it does happen, it's probably something we should be doing/considering now, not in a week and a half.  Ugh.

And here is where things get interesting. Our courthouse brings in 1200+ jurors 3-4 times a week and packs them all in a big room where they are pulled out as needed. Lately the number of call outs has increased significantly. So far it hasn't been a problem, but you can see how it is going to be. Imagine huge cities like LA or NYC and what is going to happen there. I saw Washington suspended speedy trial requirements for some case types--I bet this becomes a reality in most large cities sooner rather than later.

TP all gone at local grocery store. I wasn't looking to buy any (I can get giant rolls from work) but I could sense the panic in some people as they went up and down the aisles a few times. Did buy some wine and whiskey though. We have plenty of food to hold us out for a 2 week quarantine if it comes to it, so I was just buying stuff for dinner

Sounds like some kinda martial law / hell on earth situation right there

Cant imagine they do that.  Not necessary.  That wouldnt even stop anything because once they open everything again it will just spread again.  A vaccine wont be available to the public for several months.

Right now just shutting down large gatherings is more than enough to slow the process.

This will last a while.

Just remember if you think you are overreacting, they cancelled the NCAA tournament

I was reading yesterday that some jurisdiction was putting on hold all civil cases and criminal cases where the accused was not in custody. I want to say DC, but really don't remember.

Saw a hilarious video on the local news of 2 old ladies trying to grab the last package of toilet paper.

My son's teacher has it.  His school is cancelled.  Finding out if we will be quarantined.
So my son jumped the gun when he told us she has it.  She's just suspected to have it.  Their school is cancelled until at least the end of the month though.

Thanks for everyone's well wishes and hopefully we will be all good.

This may have been covered already but I didn't see it.

Any ideas what will happen when outings and trips are already paid for? For example, we have tickets to an out of town show that most likely is going to get cancelled. We already booked and paid for the hotel. Do we get ticket money back? Hotel money back? Are we forced to stay in a hotel where everyplace else in town is closed or quarantined?

Similarly, some of the family was supposed to fly to Europe. Flights, hotels, outings are already paid for. If the government(s) say no dice, are the airlines, hotels, and tour companies obligated to refund your money . . . seeing how people would not be allowed to participate?
