Maybe I'm wrong but I didn't think everyone got an extra 600 in unemployment....

I thought people would get up to an additional 600 to make up in lost salary unemployment is a percentage here it's (60%)

My personal prediction is that in 10-14 days the healthcare system in this country will be in such shambles that a national quarantine will happen. This will be a very late and reactive measure by the govt.
Is it fair to say, you've had this prediction for some time now?

Is it not fair to say that many in here feel similar to your thoughts and are posting within range some forecast that predicts catastrophic loss of life and complete collapse of the healthcare system in the coming weeks if not sooner?

Unless something changes and nobody seems to think that's gonna happen anytime soon.

Just to be clear, I can see first hand here in Palm Beach based on when I make trips out to get groceries or just to take a walk around my neighborhood and Seniors are gathered inside the clubhouse and around the pool at night well within 6 feet of each other...they don't think this is all that serious in their actions.

Assuming that things are going to get a lot worse, how do you think it's going to make you feel in 3-4 days when the numbers sky rocket past where they are now?

I'm sure you have seen that movie, Independence Day when some folks start dancing on the top of the buildings in Los Angeles and New York...you can't save everybody but it sounds like you have taken the warnings seriously and you are helping people by being one of the 70%+ that are likely staying in as much as possible. I'm just pointing out and I am sure you know that a certain section of the population is going to continue to act out in ways that seem unfathomable in a time like this.

Of course they dont.  They've lived their lives and they dont care whether the rest of us are stuck inside for 3 months (which we're mostly doing for the benefit of them and the healthcare workers that would work to keep them from dying if they get it).

PALM BEACH has finally issued the call...send in the CATS, repeat send in the CATS!

For those of you that might not get that reference...Leon

Emergency Alert sent directly into the phone ordering all people over the age of 65 to STAY HOME which in Palm Beach means absolutely no traffic anywhere.

I posted earlier...in a month since this started we had 141 CV-19 test positive, last night that number jumped to 241 in one night...100 cases in one night vs 141 total up to that point.

They aren't going to tell us everything up front. They are giving it to us in bits and pieces to keep us from overreacting. For example, my wife is a teacher in Ohio, and all teachers have already been told that school is cancelled for the year by Governor DeWine. But when DeWine speaks to the public and is asked about the schools not returning  on April 6th, he says it's "possible" the kids may not return for the rest of the school year. He has a plan of what date in the future he is going to reveal that they are closed. Everything he has been doing has been done in bits and pieces over time.

Despite what Trump and his Wall Street buddies want, the end game, or even a partial end game, will not occur at Easter. There is a reason why the stimulus bill he signed includes 4 months of unemployment. That should tell you right there that at the earliest we are looking at late July for an end game. And to be honest, even that is optimistic. I heard on the news last night that some in the NCAA are already assuming the 2020 college football season isn't going to happen. I was seriously hoping to avoid that, but reality is setting in for me on that one too.

If frustration is already starting to set in, then I recommend finding some method of managing that, either through activity or medication. I recommend Kava. A brewed Kava tea tastes like crap, but works wonders. It's recently been growing in popularity among people who want to go out with friends at night, but don't want to drink alcohol. There are Kava bars that were open in NYC, Miami and such before the lockdown. But if drinking a crap tasting tea to get the calming effects doesn't sound appealing, you can get it delivered in pill forms and spray forms from Amazon.

I'm sure other people here could recommend ways they deal with frustration. That may be the most positive we can start sharing with each other in this thread, because we are likely in this for a really long haul, and now that we are weeks into it, the frustration is probably growing high for a lot of people.
I don’t want to rain on the mind-altering substance parade, but like alcohol, Kava has been linked to liver toxicity.

Try yoga, green tea or some appropriately spaced outdoor exercise instead.

I am sure there are stories from other countries like this that we don't hear about, but it does seem to be a widespread problem here.

Just that potent mix of hubris, ignorance, and evidently the inability to grasp that just because it's not right in your face doesn't mean that it isn't a huge issue overall and won't be in your face very soon.

Oh, and lack of top down leadership.

I can't tell exactly by that link if the FDA is saying ibuprofen is fine to take or not. It looks they're saying ibuprofen won't make coronavirus worse if you catch it, but could interfere with the accuracy of diagnostic testing.

Thinking on it some more, though ... I can see ibuprofen lowering inflammation and perhaps also antibody counts in the blood. I can't see it making it more difficult to pick up viruses after a nasal swab. @Terminalxylem? @Tecumseh? @ProstheticRGK? @ghostguy123? Beuller?
Not sure. IMO, the ibuprofen/NSAID warnings are overblown. That being said, in the absence of definitive evidence one way or the other, why not just stick with acetaminophen to manage fever/pain?

I’ve not really had many predictions like that.  A number here have sounded the warning, but we’ve always hoped it would get better.  Now that we have data, it’s a no-brainer that the USA healthcare system is going to be in deep trouble in 2 weeks.

The thing is, we don’t really know what our soft quarantines will do for the doubling rate.

Most countries seemed to have a doubling rate of 4 days before quarantines.  Italy has had a pretty solid quarantine (but not China/SK level) for 3 weeks and their doubling rate is down to around 10 to 11 days.  That STILL means the numbers double 3 times a month and would put total infections at a billion in 3.5 months.

I think we can all agree that the USA has a softer quarantine than Italy, so where will we be in a few weeks? Hard to say as our data is still incomplete but behind Italy, I’m almost positive.

I'd have to imagine the real numbers have to be double since we started testing late
The numbers are almost always going to be at least double anyway, because at half of the total infected are going to be people in the incubation stage.  So then when you factor in the people that haven’t been tested, it could be 2 million easy right now.  With 1.5 million of those in a stage where it’s too early for them to die. Scary numbers for sure.

This is a great post and you are exactly right. They have been slowly tightening things up but I think it's softened up a lot of people into doing what they want them to do.

Stopping the outbreak here in the States is MMQB right now and what I mean Spock is that hasn't been an option for a while now so the only thing that seems to possibly lessen the blow has been to spread this out over time, flatten the curve as many of you posted about. The thing that bothers me about the "flattening" is that if everyone were tested tonight the number would shock folks of citizens walking around with it already. We are running at 1:5 right now in 2 of the major 3 counties in South Florida, Palm Beach has more than doubled now in about 1 day and we lead the State of Florida in deaths behind only Broward right now.

Cuomo on CNN now saying he could sue Rhode Island if they don't stop their policy towards NY.
I don't really understand this. You'd think he'd get it by now. Slowing the spread is the primary objective. Sure, it's literally against the constitution, but this SoE and they're just being asked to do what is best for everyone. Are these NYers actually planning to do anything BUT self quarantine when they know exactly what they are fleeing from?

Just seems like a stupid nit to pick given the situation.
In the last 14 days I have left the block exactly twice (to volunteer for an essential service.) There was one person (me) on the subway car last week; today it was 6, & all had masks + gloves on, with no one closer than 8 feet of each other.

Idk what the mechanism is, but I’ve seen in multiple places that taking ibuprofen significantly worsens symptoms and outcomes. I’m just staying away from it.

Great points, and I cannot understand how flights are able to leave from NYC right now. WHy is Florida allowing anyone from the Northeast area to land and walk around here? I understand we put in State Line checkpoints and are stopping Louisiana folks, how about NYC, NJ, CT, maybe they are but seems little late for some of this. Especially the flights, those should have been halted over a week ago.

I posted a little bit ago, here in Palm Beach we have seen our numbers double in 24 hours...now I don't think twice as many people magically got the virus, we simply have not tested enough people and these numbers are going to skyrocket here, mix in the Senior Community and numbers and numbers of retirement homes and subdivisions throughout Florida, could be like when California wildfires start and burn out of control...Seniors are just the fuel it's looking for.

First suspected COVID-19 death of one of my pharmacy patients. Family said that she was given 6 months (cancer) but deteriorated quickly with symptoms that make them suspect CV. The last few days I’ve had several calls from hospitals to get med lists, looks like AZ might be getting worse.
Are you a pharmacist?

MOP if you want an idea of why the USA is screwed look at this map.  Look at the flights in the air over the USA.  Then scroll to Europe.  Note the difference.

Maybe this will get the youth to understand how serious this is. It's for real now!

The World Could Be Running Out of Condoms Because of Pandemic

The world’s biggest maker of condoms warned of a global shortage as supply falls by almost 50% while its stockpile is set to last for just another two months.

Malaysia-based Karex Bhd., which makes one out of every five condoms worldwide, only restarted its factories on Friday after a week-long closure, working with just half its workforce to comply with a lockdown that the country imposed to contain the spread of the coronavirus. The company said condoms are mainly made in China and India, which are both heavily impacted by the pandemic.

Meanwhile, demand is growing at “double digits” as governments around the world issue stay-at-home notices and many people abstain from having children due to the uncertain future, said Goh Miah Kiat, group chief executive officer at Karex.

The company produces for brands like Durex as well as its own line of specialty condoms such as Durian-flavored ones. It churns out more than 5 billion condoms a year and exports them to more than 140 countries. That has become more challenging as governments shut borders and airlines cancel flights.

“I would definitely say this is an unprecedented stage, we have never seen such a disruption,” Goh said in an interview on Friday.

Condoms could also get much more expensive, he warned. “We are still paying all our workers full salaries but workers only come in half the time so generally there will be a cost increase,” he said.

Bravo!

Now that is eye popping and I don't think most folks are keying in on this, there's no way the average citizen here has seen that map and further more, not sure that they all would understand the extreme danger of so many flights moving back and forth right now across the States.

SO to expand this beyond NYC which is the whipping boy right now for a lot of folks...the reality is many cities are just behind in testing and allowing all these flights has already spread this thing everywhere, people just don't know it yet.

It sounds funny but the reality is STDs will rise world wide.

This:lmao:    Mr. krista really likes them, and I thought they'd be a great treat for him while quarantined.

We have been taking deliveries directly into the garage, disposing of the outside box into the recycling bin, wiping down the inside contents, and then hand-washing/sanitizing before touching anything else or coming back in the house.  I'd wondered if that was overkill, but now I'm glad we've done it.  Hopefully that will take care of any issue here.
$26 for cookies?!

LOOK AT ME, I buy fancy cookies!
