I should start another thread for this but I'll just put it here. Looking for some suggestions.

I've always had sinus/allergy issues. I don't know if it's pollen etc or food related. I've never really done much about it.

Staying at home for the last couple weeks has really ramped things up. I get stuffed up, post nasal drip, swollen feeling tonsils, lump I throat etc. It sucks. I think maybe worse after I eat? Could be dairy, wheat, who knows.

Been trying Claritan.. doesn't seem to help. Been using NyQuil at night. Took some DayQuil now. Helps a little. Hard to sleep when stuffed up and try to move down throat but doesn't seem to budge.

Just ordered one of those Navage things. Have large tonsils and tried to get them out years ago and insurance wouldn't cover. Got a CPAP last year and really didn't like it so haven't been using it...another issue but related.

Would really like to see an ENT and see if I could get some relief at some point but not even going to try with COVID going on.

So besides trying the Navage any other suggestions? Oh I also bought an air cleaner for the room I sleep in and need to get that set up. Also need to do some.more whole home dusting etc.

Wondering I guess if there is other otc meds I should be trying as well. Any other suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried regular use of Flonase?  do you have GERD? its not a food allergy.

Yep. But then the USA seems to the the only country in the world that is handling this from a state level, rather than a national one.  So when you have 50 different solutions to a problem, you’re bound to get all sorts of solutions ranging from terrible to great.
In Florida it's even worse. Many of the orders and directives are at the county and city level. Ungood.

Check this out: https://www.ijidonline.com/article/S1201-9712(19)30328-5/fulltext

Italy averaged about 16,000 deaths per year from influenza between 2013 and 2017.

They have already had about 10,000 deaths from coronavirus and are still finding over 1000 new cases a day and most of their cases are unresolved.

It is definitely a much, much bigger deal than flu.  I still see people posting that it isn't though.

10,000 is 0.02 percent of their entire population as well. So the death rate is at least that, probably much higher.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has set a goal of getting the first payments out the door the week of April 6. Many experts say that is an ambitious timetable, and it might get pushed back to later in April. The last time the U.S. government did anything like this, in 2008, the payments went out in batches and it took about eight weeks for the final people to receive their checks.

I have been to India - I am very worried about that country.  SOOO many people and nowhere to go.
I agree that India is likely to get very hard, but that's the case in many countries that aren't as developed as ours (=big houses to self-isolate in).  I think of Cuba, where I've visited a couple of times, and how multi-generational families live together in small, one-level homes.  On one hand, they could restrict travel to the island to self-isolate the country.  On the other hand, they have few options for governmental support.  They're already under rather severe rationing.

Keep New Yorkers in NY

Rhode Island Police to Hunt Down New Yorkers Seeking Refuge

March 27, 2020, 5:14 PM EDT

(Bloomberg) --

Rhode Island police began stopping cars with New York plates Friday. On Saturday, the National Guard will help them conduct house-to-house searches to find people who traveled from New York and demand 14 days of self-quarantine.

“Right now we have a pinpointed risk,” Governor Gina Raimondo said. “That risk is called New York City.”

New York is the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S., on Friday reporting a total of 44,000 cases.

Rhode Island has just over 200, and it has begun an aggressive campaign to keep the virus out and New Yorkers contained, over objections from civil liberties advocates.

Raimondo, a Democrat, said she had consulted lawyers and said while she couldn’t close the border, she felt confident she could enforce a quarantine.

Seaside Retreat

Many New Yorkers have summer houses in Rhode Island, especially in tony Newport, and the governor said the authorities would be checking there.

“Yesterday I announced and today I reiterated: Anyone coming to Rhode Island in any way from New York must be quarantined,” the governor said. “By order. Will be enforced. Enforceable by law.”

Raimondo signed an executive order Thursday that applies to anyone who has been in New York during the past two weeks and through at least April 25. It doesn’t apply to public health, public safety, or health-care workers.

National Guard members will be stationed at the T.F. Green airport, Amtrak train stations and at bus stops. The citizen-soldiers will be following up with people at local residences. The maximum penalty for not complying: a fine of $500 and 90 days in prison.

Just had a two+ hour phone conversation with an old friend followed by a two hour conversation with another old friend. Like being back in high school. We each loved Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and hated The Irishman. We wondered why we aren't playing poker together online. Can play private, play money tournaments on PokerStars and then paypal the winners. We should do that here, no?  Somebody set that up.

let's go

There have been plenty of lives lost because of our belief in the Constitution before. The right of travel and to move about freely is something that needs to be heeded intellectually before people start calling for travel bans and state closure of borders.

Sorry, but that gets at the heart of our Constitutional framework where the federal structure is discussed at length and which has been explicated by the Constitution. I'd be very wary of what Donald Trump and Rhode Island are proposing.

I thought I have been having allergies for months now.  Got a nasal swab a 2.5 weeks ago and turned out to be a corona virus (nl63).  Imagine my surprise when I logged in and saw corona virus detected in my chart.  Nurse called me about an hour later telling me not to panic, its not THAT corona.  The NL 63 variety isn't that big of deal. OK.  Symptoms were that I was fine all day long, but early in the evening I'd get really bad post nasal drip.  It was clear, really looked like allergies,  but I'd start hacking up a lung.  I'd wake up all stuffed up, but then everything would be fine in an hour or less.  I was fine all day long until after I got home.  Seriously looked like allergies except none of the allergy meds touched it, neither did flonase.

Just bringing that up because you probably should see an ENT when things are safe out there.  It might not be allergies, and if it is, they might be able to help.

Anyway, I use a Vicks steam inhaler.  Those are under 30 bucks.  That's helped a lot.  I get an ear ache when I used a neti pot, so I wasn't going to try the Navage.  YMMV

Has anyone been recooking delivery pizza in the oven or do you just eat it?
What kind of pizza?

I find the toaster oven to be very handy, just once around like you were toasting bread, keep an eye on it...secret is wait to hear the sizzle of the cheese and then you know it's probably warm enough.

I'm getting a Alfredo and my fiance got cheese. No toaster oven available.

You need professional help.

i can literally throw a baseball and hit the US from where I live - NY (if i had a good enough arm)... sad to think that just mere feet away from an absolute shambles, with no public health care available.

unfortuntely for me, i am deemed an essential service at work, so still doing mon-fri 8-4s, and seeing the effect on our country as well, albeit on a much smaller scale, but w health care.

the only thing that really irks me is seeing how non-chalant so many americans seem to be about this... of course, i get the population gap, but it seems so much of your country is really not "getting it" still..

why? seriously... why?

This is almost identical to my situation.  My entire life.  Any attempts at fixing it have fallen short.  Things like allergy shots, nasal sprays and a sinus surgery.

Decided last month to try and figure it out again.  Got some referrals from my PCP but didn't get in to see anybody yet.  Now I'll just have to wait some more.

Girlfriend cannot believe I live/breathe like this, it blows her mind, but I've really never known otherwise.  There were a few months of clean, fresh pipes after the surgery.  And it was glorious.  But it didn't last long and polyps (presumably) came roaring back.

Being socked in lately, like you, has worsened things.  Having allergy-induced asthma and finding myself on the wrong side of 50 does not help my anxiety level.

375 preheat, very important oven is HOT.

Take a cookie pan or whatever you bake with and line that with aluminum foil and place it in the oven for a few minutes so it is hot to the touch when you place the pizza on it.

Place in oven and set timer for 10 minutes,

YW

Arrogance and apathy - and worse yet, a lack of empathy - is a helluva combo.

Yup

i really try not to dig into american politics much, it isnt my country... which, funny enough, is the opposite of most here, who know NOTHING of cdn politics, but are 100% up to date on american..

anyways... am i wrong in assuming that trump plays a major role in this, w his early denials? seems his voters wouldve fallen right into that trap and still maintain it's a conspiracy

Because here it's not a war against the virus, it's a war against the stupid and the greedy. Outside shot we partially defeat the stupid by shaming them but we'll never beat the greedy. That's a fight to the death, unfortunately.

funny enough, the day the US/Canada border was closed, we were notified there would be a major announcement about it at noon...

and of course, Trump live tweets the decision about 1-2hrs before we announced it, like the ###### he is.

It was at that point that I knew the severity of the issue in North America. And I also knew, 100%, it was a Canadian decision to close it off. No way the US had any reason to close it off. None.

It was the first Canandian "flex" I think Ive ever seen... aside from legalizing weed, but that doesnt compare

(eta: it was later confirmed to me it was in fact a CDN decision by another friend who also works w the gov't, but closer to ottawa)

What is the question 3? Are you asking if in this moment of a lifetime if America thinks their healthcare system is in shambles or feels guilty that only a certain portion of the population has access to decent health care? I'm guessing I am going to be in the right area there...that's a pretty juiced question and we can't discuss all the different things that impact why things are the way they are here and it's even tougher explaining them to folks.

Quick answer is this is not a Socialist country on most levels with a few exceptions and no matter how much some people want it to change, there's plenty and I mean PLENTY PLENTY PLENTY like a majority here that fully understand that this system is based on Capitalism and that isn't going to change. It's like asking someone of one faith why they just can't convert to another's faith.

America can always adapt and do things better, and we always will because this place is one of the best places on the entire planet, red white and blue baby.

😘

i am willing to wager that capitalism VERY much changes after the effects of this are fully felt.. the fact that an economy can collapse in like.. 3-4 days? insanity.

the fact that businesses are already closing their doors, permanently, after just 2-3 weeks, before next month's bills are even due?

how did it ever get his bad? unchecked capitalism.

but anyways... stay healthy you schmucks.

Hold that thought...

This was me until I discovered zyrtec d. Only bad thing about it is it dries me out a lot so I am prone to bloody noses.

But i will happily take a bloody nose compared to what I used to deal with.
