Woo Hoo - Have 2 pending transactions at my bank.  $2590 to the IRS for 2019 taxes and deposit of $2073.07, assuming it's from the stimulus. I'm almost even!!

Why is this counted as a Covid death?

MN attorney general Keith Ellison’s mother has passed away:
A spokesman from Attorney General Ellison's office confirmed Clida had surgery earlier this year and was readmitted to the hospital in March for a surgery-related infection. During her hospital stay, she developed pnuemonia. After moving to the ICU, she had a heart attack and passed away. Following her death and burial, medical staff confirmed her COVID-19 diagnosis.

Neither of those should be stimulus. Stimulus would be 1200. (Or 2400 if married) and 500 for each child under 17. Your numbers don’t add up.

Yes the first one isn't, that's my tax liability for last year.  The 2nd one is, I'm assuming it's prorated for our income (we don't have kids), we weren't eligible for the full $2400.

As the U.S. continues to be anxious to reopen, on we go with covid worldometers.  New cases above 75,000 (so might approach 80,000 by day's-end); deaths back above 7,000.  Even though the numbers are lower than U.S. and Europe, so many areas of growth in cases - Russia and the old SSRs,; Middle East; South America; India/Pakistan/Bangladesh; and some other spots. Seems like safe international travel is a long way off.

eta: Numbers ended up at almost 85,000 and just under 8,000 deaths.  Catch up from the weekend?  Cumulative effect of the global spread?  Just not good.

There have been multiple recorded COVID-19 deaths from cardiac issues as a result of the virus.

This was pretty much my wife, but she had a persistent cough to go with everything.  She slept about every afternoon, but the symptoms themselves were controllable with OTC stuff.
Thanks.

I was hoping to hear some people say that and just thought I'd share if anyone else gets similar things. I'll just treat it like the flu for now with OTC stuff.

Israeli Professor: It Doesn't Matter If You Have Strict Social Distancing or None, Coronavirus Follows the Exact Same Pattern in All Countries

Professor Yitzhak Ben Israel concludes in his analysis summary paper that the data from the past 50 days indicates that the closure policies of the quarantine countries can be replaced by more moderate social distancing policies. The numbers simply do not support quarantine or economic closure.

On the reasonableness of Israel’s unprecedented quarantine and closure, he commented to the news agency, “I think it's mass hysteria."

That’s kind of my point. She had surgery, infections, and pneumonia but somehow this is listed as a result of Covid. Seems speculative at best.
No offense intended, but... are you not making the connection between getting pneumonia and the COVID-19 positive status?

Been thinking about this.

I'm wondering what mindset most authorities have.  My mindset in posting about a plateau of active cases has to do with eradicating the disease by not opening things up until active cases are at such a low level that the risk of getting it is super low again, and contact tracing/quick testing can stop the spread from ever happening again.

Your post has a bit of a different mindset.  If I'm reading into it right, the goal is not necessarily to stop the disease from spreading completely, but to keep the hospitals from being overrun again.

Not sure anyone knows what the right thing to do is. Wait too long to re-open, you might devastate the economy while you eradicate the disease.  Open too soon and the economy survives this round, but so does the virus.
I think the goal is going to have to be not overwhelming hospitals.

Hopefully the authorities are factoring in human nature and what reality is likely to be like with the general public when formulating their plans.

Plenty of people will be willing to risk contracting the virus in exchange for being able to work and being able to socialize again.

Especially as soon as testing starts identifying people who have the antibodies to show that they've already had C19... Seeing the lucky post-C19 people out and about will be an irresistible siren call for some (lots?) of other people who haven't had the virus yet but are willing to risk contracting it to get back to doing "normal" things.

There's no conspiracy here.  She tested positive for covid.  Perhaps the blurb that you got that from just didn't have all the info.  Took one google search.

Goin on 15 years since I've known that cat, even had some BBQ with him in KC, take that to the smoker brohan.

One of the things that I hope happens after this is all over is that there emerges a sort of internationally accepted standard for counting deaths and other statistics so all - or most - countries are at least using the same measuring sticks.

Some of the names I heard that are going to struggle coming out of this are Macy's, Kohl's and GAP. Just nod if I'm close
It’s safe to lump by channel in retail...Ecom in best position...Mass (Walmart, Target), Wholesale Club (Sams, Costco), Sporting Goods (DSG, Academy, Scheels), Closeout (Marmaxx) should make out ok....Dept Store (Kohls, JCP, Macy’s) and Specialty (Lids, Old Navy, airport stores, hotel shops) in trouble.

Not saying you have allergy issues, but this thing hitting right now means a whole boatload of people are going to get tested thinking they may have it and just have allergies to all the green in the air.  My car is coated right now.

I do get seasonal allergies and the coughing seems to definitely be from that. I never get fever or body aches from it though. I won't get tested unless this gets worse or until they are really readily available. I'm hoping I did get a mild case of it. Wife has no symptoms yet.

Thanks bud. I'll let it play out for another couple of days and see where it goes. Not bad right now.Glad to hear about your daughter.
Given you are in NY would advise you not to get tested in NY unless you can get drive through testing somehow. You are very unlikely to get tested here since so little testing is available and going to places to get tested just increases the likelihood of you catching it if you don’t already have it. All medical professionals I have talked to say best to self quarantine and if you have any trouble breathing get to hospital ASAP.

Good luck man!

Thanks!

That's basically my thought. As of now, it's mild. I rode out the flu one time probably further than I should have and intend to stay home until it's absolutely necessary.

Judging by your posts, it seems that you and I are on the same, uh, "side". But this post is clearly political, and hiding a politician's name at the start of your headline does not change that.
I can see where it might seem that way, so consider it deleted.  Thanks!
