I love me some cav and count it one of life’s great pleasures to have had late night debate with the man. There is a strong possibility that he inadvertently sent you the number to time & temperature but I’d still call it and try to check this off my bucket list. Everyone should talk to cav at least once in their life.

Crap.  I guarantee my sensitive stomach kids are going to have issues then.  Both scheduled for tomorrow.  Both have been sick and are just getting better . . . . 

 
After making it 18+ months without any major personal impacts, my dad just let me know he tested positive.

He had been quite safe over the past 18+ months, but had reconnected with a few HS friends, one of whom is dying of cancer. He took a long weekend trip from East Coast to West Coast, got back on Monday and took his test on Tuesday.

Good News:
Fully vaccinated (7/8 months ago), PCP getting him in for monoclonal antibodies today.

Bad News:
High BMI (40), 74 YO, no booster.

I am concerned. Not sure if I should be more than concerned. Based on the above, anyone have an idea on odds he can beat it without significant impact (hospitalization)?

Could just be a stomach bug.

My son had two classmates puke in school this week.

There have been numerous COVID cases in the school, but so far no COVID transmission within the school.  Masks are required.  Somehow, there are all kinds of other viruses being spread though.  My kids have been sick and out of school (and received negative COVID tests) twice this year already.  I caught their bad cold last week myself, and am only feeling normal today (even with a few lingering sniffles).

Thats what I was thinking because I never heard of that as a possible side effect of the vaccine.

Sorry to hear this. I'm not a doctor, but if he's fully vaccinated and getting monoclonal antibodies immediately, that gives him a much better chance at avoiding hospitalization than people of similar age and BMI who are not doing those things. Exact odds, no idea.

Grabbed his BP meds and a sandwich for him and stopped by his house after work (both masked, I stayed on the deck).

Apparently the area is getting hit so hard that there's a waiting list for monoclonal antibodies and he's on the list for next week. As he first felt symptoms on Tuesday, that seems like the very edge of when they would be effective. More concerned now than I was twelve hours ago.

As a bit of a rant, the above is why I have such a problem with the anti-vaxxers. The vast majority of people requiring invasive treatment are unvaccinated and have caused delays in treatment and harm to the higher risk, vaccinated population.

Monoclonal antibodies are indicated for use within the first 10 days after start of symptoms.
 

After first offering it to all high risk patients, my health care system had to limit monoclonal antibodies to the unvaccinated before running out earlier this week. Hoping for more supply next week.

I'm in the same area as you, my dad lives between Rochester and Syracuse and we're seeing a spike. Monroe County up to a 7.1% positivity rate. Likely why he's stretched out to next week as well. 

 
This is also unfortunate. Hospitals in Western states are getting deluged with COVID patients again.

Intensive-care unit beds occupied by Covid-19 patients are climbing in 12 states from two weeks earlier, with most of them in a contiguous strip running from Arizona and New Mexico, through the Great Plains and into Minnesota.

There's a map showing where the worst problems are: New Mexico, Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Vermont. Utah, Arizona, and New Hamsphire are doing badly, but less so.

Just to be clear, because I had this question myself:

The Ellume home test is NOT the Binax NOW test for sale at drugstores across the U.S. The Binax NOW test is manufactured by Abbot Laboratories.

I'm not sure the Ellume tests were ever sold around where I live -- I see the Binax NOW tests everywhere. For reference, here's a picture of the Ellume test packaging.

How do deer get COVID from people?  I thought this was extremely unlikely to transmit outdoors?  Do I need to worry about the herd of deer in my yard every day in PA?

10 year old got sent home from school today with diarrhea.  Could be a side effect, could just be from the greasy Pizza Hut individual pizza she ate after getting the jab at the Target CVS yesterday.  She said her arm was sore from the outset.

The 9 year old boy woke up with a sore arm but didn't even want ibuprofen.

Yeah.  This kid is the Queen of Junk Food.  I'm one to talk, but she's always eating Fritos, candy, etc.  Kinda worried about the diet, actually.  Diabetes runs in the family and I'm a total fatazz.

But... update.... she's feeling fine now, decorating her room for Christmas and asking her mom to make her rice for lunch.  So much for the runs.

There was another report of this exact same thing about six months or so ago.  No link, sorry -- no idea where I saw that.  Just adding a data point that this story is probably true.

Shouldn’t be too surprising. One of the Nordic countries had to cull their entire mink population (a huge industry for them) because they found Covid transmitting amongst them last year.
