THIS JUST IN!!!

Just learned that Jerry Jones has plans to unveil the Super Bowl banners today to help inspire the crowd.

A couple of notes:More than 100,000 in attendance with the roof and doors closed. Should be louder than it's ever been.If you recall, the 105,000+ in attendance for the Giants game (home opener) we saw the roof and doors open. Miles Austin himself was surprised to find himself on the injury report (thumb). He simply jammed it in last week's game and has practiced all week with no troubles.
I'm glad to hear that everything is closed. The players were asking Jerry to close it because of how loud the stadium was in New Orleans and they wanted to try and emulate that. It should be very loud in Dallas today, hope it helps.

Winning the division and having a higher playoff seed is better no matter who the opponent will be next week. It is possible to get another home game because the wild card Packers or even then Cardinals (if seeded below us) could end up in the NFC Championship.

I wanted to type this out before the week 17 game because it's how I feel. I have to say that I think Wade Phillips has done a good job coaching this football team. When I look at the defense of the past couple seasons and the defense I'm seeing lately, there's no doubt it's improved. It's not outstanding, but the penalties, the constant mistackling, the blown coverages in the secondary were all too common. We may see some of that today because of the outstanding passing attack of Philly, but overall that defense has improved and that's a credit to Wade Phillips.

They lost one of the greatest receivers in our era last season and risked that with his job on the line. Figuring it was better to roll with more team unity than to try and just take the best players along regardless of fit and team chemistry. We've seen Tony Romo mature into a much more dependable quarterback than he was ever in his professional career. The running attack is pretty much a 3 headed attack, outside of fantasy football I'm fine with that.

As a fan, I really would like to see Dallas win but I can't remember wanting Dallas to win for their coach more than I do today (regular season) . I really would like to see Wade Phillips win the NFC East and get that playoff win next week at home. If he loses today and loses next week somewhere, then I know he'll take a ton of heat and maybe deservedly so but I don't think they will. Dallas is playing sound defense and their quarterback is playing well. Those are both good things heading into the playoffs.

Go Dallas

Not to jinx the Jedi, but here is a clear barometer as to the maturation of Tony Romo.

Interception % per attempt:

2006 3.9%

2007 3.7%

2008 3.1%

2009 1.6%

And that's not to mention the fumbling issues he once had (remember?). I'd say the improvement has been nearly astronomical.

This is the QB that we need to lead this team today and beyond.

I was wondering when they were going to do that. When I went on a tour of the stadium in week 3 I asked why the banners were not up and the tour guide had no answer. I said I bet they will unveil them during the Thanksgiving day game but this was a better choice!!!

If Dallas loses today Wade is probably gone ... if he wins then the same staff is back intact. I was very anti Wade for most of the year but they've improved late. This game is as much for Wade as it is for the team.

Back-to-back shutouts for the first time in team history. Not to mention doing that against back-to-back NFC East opponents!

Bring on the Iggles next week!!!!!!!

NFC EastChampions!

Anyone notice which RB got the most touches today? Premonition for next year?
They need to use them both equally IMO. Barber hammers and Felix dashes. Most importantly, Romo is hitting his receivers with both RBs in the game. This has to make it tough on defenses.

With the bye no longer in play, I still prefer a win today, 8 quarters with Philly and the shot at another home game going forward. It's not ideal, but if Philly is the obstacle then keep them in Texas.
Hey we beat them in Dallas this week how much confidence do you need to do it again the next week in the playoffs. Would love nothing more then to beat them for the division and then beat them for a 3rd time in the playoffs. I would think that would more then make up for the 44-6 loss huh.
let's do this boys

I think the Cowboys like having Felix Jones healthy this time of year, so yes. They will never give him the full load because he can't take the beating. He played very well today, I'm glad Dallas has him heading into the playoffs. I don't think anyone ever doubted he's the most explosive of the 3 running backs on the squad.

I am not 100 percent sure this is true. I probably should be true but if the Cowboys lost to the Eagles next week, I wouldn't bet my life Phillips is automatically back. Now, winning the NFC East two out of 3 years is pretty darn good and you shouldn't lose your job when you do that but a lot of people just look at it like did you win a playoff game? No so what good is winning the division.I think he needs to win next week's game to really secure his spot. Dallas looked good today but they beat the Giants 2 out of 2 and the Giants came in to Cowboy stadium and beat us. Now, the Giants played an awesome game versus the Patriots when they were undefeated at the end of the season then played solid in the wild card game against Tampa I think. You didn't see that kind of solid play out of Philly today heading into next week. Obviously it would be a huge disappointment to lose that game next week after how we handled our business this week but it's entirely possible. The Eagles will throw the kitchen sink at us next week, I hope Romo is close to 100 percent to he's able to move around in that pocket.

What people do not seem to saying is that Philly has to worry more about the Dallas defense then Dallas has to be worried about Philly throwing the kitchen sink at them. We will score and beat the blitz it is a given but can Philly beat this defense of Dallas cause they are playing better then anyone.

A good game. We brought our best shot and took the NFCE title.

But it won't mean anything unless we win next week.

I heard Wade talking about a Victory Monday. I sure hope they keep after it. Nothing to celebrate at this point.

I know what you're saying, but they did just win the NFC East and that should be celebrated. I mean, the ultimate goal for anyone once they reach the playoffs is the SB, so if you think of it that way, you shouldn't even really celebrate if they beat Philly next week.I think you have to enjoy the win, it was a long tough season and the Cowboys are the NFC East Champs. Of course they have to show up next week and play Philly but if they lose to a team they just shutout, shame on them.I don't think the veterans on the team will lose focus, they have to be SOOO tired of hearing they haven't won a playoff game.

I believe that they do a victory Monday after every win. At least they did that earlier in the season. BTW I agree with Mustang Man. Our defense is playing lights out right now. I believe that our Mike Jenkins is a shutdown corner and Anthony Spencer has turned into the beast that we wanted him to be.

Did anyone go to the game? Did they bring over that horrid Emmit Smith banner? God I hope not.

What's stunning about this team is Romo doesn't have to play well to win anymore. The Defense will just take care of things and as long as he takes care of the ball everything will be fine. Shades of the last Giants championship really.

If Wade was the D-Co and a competent head coach was in charge next week wouldn't worry me at all. Now the game thread would have you think this game will be Sunday night (3pm? I guess) There's enough bandwidth there for a stomach churning "victory monday" which just kills me, but if it's the Saturday game I have to think more work will go in. With back to back weeks versus the eagles the early monday stuff can't be all that different.

I seriously doubt Wade stays without TWO wins. Just one won't get it done, but this will depend on which coaches get picked up tomorrow the Browns win takes alot of pressure off. Zero and he's gone the very next day.

Even if Wade leaves which I dont think is a given if they lose, Garrett will take over as the Head Coach and Dallas will take a major step backwards on the defense. It really makes no sense to let Wade go, say what you want about the guy but 2 division wins in the competitive NFC East in 3 years and a winning record every year he has been here. Hard to fire a guy with those credentials.

It will be Saturday night in primetime.

I still disagree with the "can't handle a full load" garbage. His few injuries weren't from being overworked, they weren't even really contact injuries. However, he doesn't need the whole load to make an impact for the Cowboys, and that's all that really matters in the playoffs.

Well I said I'd take a kick in the nuts if that game wasn't saturday night in the game thread. I guess I'm safe then.

As Cowboy fans, you gotta love the short turn around for Philly. We are hitting on all cylinders and the Eagles have to fly back to Dallas a day earlier than they want to. I would think this could be huge for Dalla.s

This has probably already been mentioned but our offense broke the team's all time record for yards today and Romo broke his personal passing yard record this year with his second 4000+ yard season. Which of course is the second 4000+ yard passing season for the Cowboys.

i really enjoyed that game. im not sure i've ever seen a mcnabb led eagles team look so beaten. awesome. LETS DO IT AGAIN!!!

Wade stays with at least one win (1st playoff victory in ages). If he loses next week (especially if they get blown out), I think he's probably gone.Edit to add: that's what I thought would happen last season, too (but it obviously didn't).

Cowboys to the superbowl, BOOK IT! I told you dudes, Son of Bum is the real deal and this team is LOADED! SUPERBOWL TIME BABY!
The path is certainly favorable, beat Philly, then beat Minny (who is struggling, I dont give them credit beating the Giants), then either Green Bay at home or go to New Orleans. I think Green Bay probably makes it to the championship game making it a home game for Dallas.

The best thing from a Cowboys perspective is not having to play NOLA till the NFCC if it comes to that. Farve has always had a huge mental block versus the Cowboys. The team is completely in his head and it's not something the Minnesota fans are aware of, yet.

FWIW, Peter King released his All Pro team today. And he put down 2 Dallas LBs on it. Ware, yes. And Anthony Spencer.
Spencer wasn't even an every down LB until Thanksgiving, right? Am I high?
He's been the starter all year. He's just gotten better and better as the year went on. While he was close to making plays early, he's been making them late.

That's the impression I usually get. I think he's been there all year. He really was letting me down for the first half of the season. He missed a few easy picks that went right through his hands, and he wasn't getting the pressure on the QB like he has been lately. Maybe DeMarcus being hurt the first half allowed teams to pick on him too.

Right, he's been the starter, but he kept rotating out situationally? Very odd choice considering how many quality LBs there were this year.

Nope. He's really been the guy all year. Last year he rotated with Ellis. But this year, he's been full time.

:lmao: Dallas finishes the season with the 2nd least pts scored against per game at 15.6pts per game.

This is with playing 4 of the 5 best teams when it comes to putting points on the board. Saints, Vikings, Packers, Chargers, and the Eagles (twice).

I posted this in the pre-game thread. Stats borrowed from Rafael Vela. Interpretation my own.

One thing that I am encouraged from a Cowboy perspective is the continual improvement in their defense. Their points against by quarter of the year was as follows:

Games 1-4 19.5

Games 5-8 18.5

Games 9-12 15.2

Games 13-16 9.25

Those games 13-16 included 3 of the NFL's top 5 scoring offenses for the season in the Saints, Chargers, and Eagles. So it wasnt against the Rams, Lions, Browns and Raiders. Thats getting it done and its the type of thing that wins games this time of year. As well as Romo is playing (and he's playing lights out), its the defense thats likely to take them places.

Those numbers could have been alot lower if they had an answer for the NY Giants offense who scored 64 total points in 2 meetings. Without counting the NY games in 14 games the defense averaged 12.7 PPG allowed.

You guys might find the humor of this. I'm in a league that goes by cumulative stats for the entire season. One category is % completions by QBs (start 2 and I had Romo). Another is total kicking points (start 2, I had Folk/Suisham). I finished behind 2 guys in my league in % pass completion by less than .001. One Roy Williams non-drop would have put me ahead of those 2 other guys. Similarly, a single extra point, much less one less missed FG, would have put me ahead of a couple others in that category.

I won the league by 1 point overall. It almost came down to a single drop over the course of the entire season.

Give Jasson Garrett props for a great scheme and play calling. I have been critical of him and it is time to recognize a great job of scheming the Eagles. The spread no backs stuff was great, it allowed Romo to see what coverage they were in and if they were blitzing or not.

Garrett vs McDermott is a huge advantage towards the CowboysQuestion for you guys: Im thinking of going to the game this weekend (will be a 6 hour drive), what is the best way to purchase tickets (stubhub, craiglist, scalper etc.)? I will be bringing my 2 sons and a co-worker with me and am expecting to spend anywhere from $100 -200 per ticket, I realize I will be in the crappy seats but really just want my sons to get the experience of going to a playoff game and hopefully be able to say "I was there when we ended the 13 year playoff win drought."
