Have you talked to your Boss? Just ask him why he hired this African American Shift Lead Candidate over a College Student for this Position. Maybe he doesnt know you want to become a Certified Pharmacy Tech? Maybe he thinks you like the Photo Lab?

Excellent Advice. He doesn't want to look like a Stooge during his time at Walgreens. He really does seem to want to move to the Pharmacy. That's where the Premium Content is, metaphorically speaking.

Just send in MoP for some Swedish Fish. He hates low wage employees and he knows that people of tan (or darker) persuasion don't know how to properly treat a white man. He'll get her so riled up that she quits. Everyone is happy.
 
Just make sure the price listed on the shelf for Swedish fish matches the price that's charged at the register, or some customer will do everything in his power to destroy your career.

This thread is useless without a :blackdot: of the new head. If she is hot the simple answer may be that he's just looking to climb her corporate ladder. It just possible that you don't have a purty mouf.

 
He doesn't want to look like a Stooge during his time at Walgreens.
The guy works in the photo lab during an era when nearly everyone has a digital camera and either share photos online or prints them at home. I guess they always could promote him to be the guy in charge of selling VHS tapes.

 
I work at Walgreens and only make $8.25 an hour. I turn 22 next month. My boss ensures me he is trying to 'develop me' and get me where I need to be.

About a week ago he hires a Candidate off the street for a Shift Lead position.

It's an African American women who will now be making more than me and have an easier job than me.

Should I quit? Look for a new job? Apparently I'm an $8.25 and hour Stooge.

I don't have time to 'work' for a position we're handing to people off the streets. I'm sure I can talk myself into a comparable position in another company.

I've been with Walgreens 3-months and am sick to my stomach every time I see this shift lead.
I think you should put your head down and worry about doing an excellent job at your current position for more than three months before you worry about a promotion.

I have a feeling that "you might be promoted sooner than you think!" became "I'm not promoting this lazy #######" when they realized he expected to make more money for less work than the Photo Lab guy at Walgreens does within 3 months.

Why would he 'develop' a 22 yo kid who if he had have a brain wouldn't be working at Walgreens for $8.25 waiting to be developed.

Because he assumes that she was hired as some sort of affirmative action. Which is pretty much how young, lazy white people think in the United States right now.

You will not be handed anything in life. Work your ### off and prove that you are the best candidate.
Also, stop putting your hard work into a place like Walgreen's if you want to get somewhere in life. That's somewhere you work in high school, not where you build a career.

 
Also - you're a 22-year-old college student. You're graduating this year with a degree in something, right? Will you be continuing to work for Walgreens once you graduate?

It's just possible that the guy would like to hire someone to be a shift lead who's going to be around for a little while.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph! I know the FFA is slipping but who let this guy in here, he makes $8.25/hr. Who does this guy belong to? This is FBG's buddy, we're not employees here, we're Employers. You're 22 years old and you haven't started your own business yet? What are you waiting for? You have 3 choices in life:

1. Be the Job Creator and make the money off the backs of the stupid.

2. Be stupid and make the job creators money while you settle for what they give you.

3. Get yourself a cardboard sign and a Sharpie and pick out a nice off ramp.

At least I can respect #3, no boss, make your own hours, showing a little initiative. You're choosing #2, you got gaffled by an old black lady!!! Wake the F up!!!

Quit and get a job at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, because they have an excellent corporate structure and they give you the tools to be your own boss.

 
Given the discussion on this board about combustible substances, there's a pretty good chance your boss knows you smoke those substances. Which is going to make it tougher to work behind the pharmacy counter.

And "late-20s/early 30s woman off the street" sounds like a better hire for a shift lead position than "pot smoking lazy violent live-at-home misogynist who's been working here 3 months and wants to get his hands on our drugs."

 
When one of your points is that the new job is LESS WORK I would guess you are not busting your hump at your current job.

As a leader, I am looking to promote people who are already doing more than what their current job demands, not people who are doing average work or below.
