I read a blurb on another forum that mentions Showtime is aiming to premiere Dexter Season 3 in late September. FWIW, here is what they had to say about the third season...

I love Dexter. It’s not quite “The Shield with a serial killer protagonist” that I imagined, when I first heard the premise…on the contrary, it’s pretty pro-status quo and safe enough show for CBS to run it with a few edits. Still, the show excels at the creation, and casting, of brilliant villians, and Michael C. Hall plays a great “benevolent outsider”; an intriguing hybrid of Boo Radley, Patrick Bateman, and Bruce Wayne.

I received an email about the upcoming season 3 of Dexter, from a friend in a position to know, and it contained the following hints of what’s in store:

“…new season seems is trending darker. Again, nothing to do with “Dexter in the Dark”…no body-switching demons. Think more along the lines of the serial killer convention story from Gaiman’s Sandman run, and Suspect Zero.”

The Sandman story referenced is issue #14, it’s an outstanding issue of an epic series, and can be found here. Suspect Zero is a criminally-underrated, 2004 psychological thriller that plays like a horror movie designed to scare serial killers. Both are highly recommended, and if the shows’ producers really are drawing inspiration from these, then I can’t wait to see what they come up with.

Dexter season three is expected to begin airing on Showtime sometime around September 30th, 2008…but keep an eye on the torrent sites for pre-air leaks, in the weeks (months?) before this.

I just got caught up through the end of season 2. I haven't been so addicted to a show since the early days of 24. It was almost painful to put down the remote and break away for the night.

What a freaking great show.

 
Just watched the second season and i am speechless what a freaking awesome show

First off let me say the only thing that freaks me out on this show is not the blood spattering decapitations but Debra Morgans freaky eyes, any notice how freaky her eyes are?

as for the finale i too think it was kind of odd that Dexter flew over seas to kill Lyla, that seems reckless ( though she was a constant threat to Rita and the kids so i am guessing that was the top of the new "code" for Dexter)

What i always wanted during the last few episodes was for Doaks to tell his girlfriend cop all about Dexter (she would have believed him)

All i wanted was for her just to mention to Debra and Lundy that she has reason to believe that Dexter was the butcher, that would have created Sooooooo much more tension to a show filled with tension

when this show is all said and done after 4 or 5 seasons i can guarantee you there will be a Dexter movie. This has two hour thrill ride in the theaters written all over it

 
is season 3 better than season 2?

season 2 suuucked

took me a few episodes to figure out who lundy was and then it hit me

that was killing me. i knew his voice from somewhere

wild bill from deadwood!

very happy to see they are taking a cue from that sandman issue. one of the creepiest of the whole series. should open the show up to a ton of new characters and options.

If you didn't like season 2 then you probably won't like season 3. Season 2 was excellent IMO and season 3 was good but not great IMO.
 
Never picked this show up until a couple weeks back.

Halfway through Season Two now.

Best show since Buffy. Writing is very tight. Not a wasted scene or line. I like that, in this show.

I wonder if they ever find the Bay Harbor Butcher.

I'll not check back to this thread until I've finished watching Season Three.

 
Emmy and Tony winner John Lithgow is joining the cast of Showtime's drama "Dexter."

Lithgow will appear in all 12 episodes of the show's upcoming fourth season, playing Walter Simmons, Miami's latest serial killer and Dexter Morgan's (Michael C. Hall) new nemesis.

Simmons is described as an unassuming, mild-mannered suburbanite who has been living a dual life as one of America's most prolific serial killers, dubbed the "Trinity Killer" because of his proclivity to kill in threes.

After being tracked by FBI special agent Frank Lundy (Keith Carradine), Simmons relocates to Miami, where Dexter is brought on to assist in the investigation and becomes fascinated with the killer's skills.

Season 4 of "Dexter" premieres Sept. 27.

Lithgow seems like a great pick. I was actually hoping Dexter wouldn't kill Smits last season and they would extend this cat and mouse game for one more year...make it a back story if need be but I thought that was showing a lot of promise.

Ive watched Dexter since middle of the 2nd season...Im watching the first season now, and I just finished the 4th episode.

Man, what an insanely awesome show this is. Im trying to watch 2 episodes per night, but its hard not to just watch em all at once.

Excellent, excellent writing early on. Michael C Hall is perfect for the role. They couldnt have done a better job casting that character.

2nd Season was outstanding as well.

3rd was really good in parts, not so good in others, all around a good season for sure.

Can't wait for the 4th, I am going to have to find someone with Showtime.

 
I liked 3 more than 2. Dunno exactly why, perhaps it was how 2 made me feel about Dexter's character. Looking forward to 4.

 
Just blasted through Season 1 over the last week. 2 episodes into season 2.

Trying to watch 2 a night ONDEMAND.

It is kind of slow. But it's better than just about anything else on TV during the summer.

 
I didn't like it at first, but it has grown on me. Started season 2 today. So far the most unfortunate part is not killing off the sister. There should be a TV rule that white trash has to have some comedic value. Otherwise, it's just too damn annoying.

 
I just watched this show for the first time last night because it came on the channel I was watching and Lithgow was in it. I don't really like cop shows or murder mysteries that much, but I was instantly addicted to this series. I'm chain-watching Season 1 right now.

 
I'm really liking season 4 so far. I thought season 3 took a step backwards, but the writing seems back to seasons 1 and 2 level.

 
I'm sitting here editing the trading card set for the third season of Dexter right now. Terrific, terrific show, although I never get to watch it on a weekly basis.

 
Not sure who that actress was but she looked great in them jeans. IMDB is my friend, Christina Cox

I like the way things are moving along this season and really looking forward to the face-off with Dexter and Lithgow. The relationship between LaGuardia and the Batista I could do without.

 
Surprised there's not much hype about this show in the FFA. Honestly, this might be my favorite show of all time. Anyone who has not seen this show is REALLY missing out.

Apparently it got lost in the shuffle, no doubt because it lacked the all-important three asterisk designation.

Lithgow's the best thing that's happened to the show in forever, and the show's the best thing that's happened to him in forever. He is perfect as a serial killer.

I agree with this. I really liked Smits' character in the show. They've done a really good job with the casting.
 
haven't read the thread yet, because i'm only half way through season 1. available via streaming from netflix.

this show is great. :thumbdown:

 
Just got the first discs to season one via netflix...TOTALLY sold...just awesome. Didn't realize there was such an existentialist theme.

 
I read the first book and then watched the first season when it came out. Loved it ever since. As Joffer and LHUCKS is discovering, anyone who is even slightly interested in watching it.... GO WATCH IT. Start with season 1 (still my favorite) and go from there. Best show on TV...

I love it when people discover this show :thumbup: FWIW, season 2 is my favorite single season of any TV show.
 
'Dexter' Season Five Killer Details

The season four finale of Dexter knocked the wind out of us and made me want to punch John Lithgow (something I swore I'd never do). Though it also served to reinvigorate a slumping storyline. So we were more than eager to chat with executive producer Sara Colleton when we caught up with her on the red carpet at PaleyFest 2010. If you're not caught up on the series, stop reading now as there are SPOILERS AHEAD. Here's what she told us we can expect in the new season.

Dexter's not really one to wear his heart on his sleeve. What can we expect as he learns how to grieve?

He is going to have to deal with a lot of feelings that he's never felt before, so it'll be interesting. He's going to approach it all, we hope, in a way that is unique and feels authentic to the audience. You'll see him go through all of those things and it will be different. I don't want to telegraph exactly what we're going to do because we want to present what anyone would be going through in that situation in a very unique Dexter-like way.

Dex no doubt feels a great level of guilt now that his secret life has directly harmed his loved ones. How will this guilt affect the tone of the season?

We hope that every year reflects the accumulative emotional experience of previous years. So it's not as if every year we start with tabula rasa and go through the same beats. So what he's gone through or the way we ended season four is such powerful emotional gut-wrenching thing for anyone to go through. But for Dexter particularly for two reasons. A, where is his responsibility in Rita's death and B, has he put his child in a situation that mirrors his own origin as a deeply unhappy person who is too damaged to change?

You've always cast wonderful adversaries but John Lithgow had such an amazing turn. Where do you go from Trinity?

We're trying to write really brilliant adversaries that require brilliant actors so we will hope to get a piece of great casting.

Is Dexter's suburban life going to come to an end?

It's going to be harder to maintain because it will be a process, but without a wife and without a reason to be in the 'burbs, is Dexter meant for the 'burbs? We'll see. We feel it's a tremendous opportunity because we sort of went down an avenoe of human behavior as far as he could go before it became dead ended really.

Will we see Julie Benz again? In flashbacks or in the same way Harry visits Dexter?

I think it's very important that the show and everyone in Dexter's life explores and shows the loss of Rita. Bringing her back in a flashback or visionary way sort of steps on our use of Harry. We want to be very, very specific about that and not get gimmicky because it becomes too much of a device.
