Official Dez Bryant (2 Viewers)

Garrett's comments about Romo's audible were a big mistake IMO. That's pathetic.
I don't doubt it's true, but as a coach you never throw you're QB under the bus like that. Garrett clearly knows his days are numbered in Dal. As soon as this team is eliminate from playoff contention he is gone IMO.

Dez Bryant leaves field after Tony Romo's second interception

Not even Dez Bryant can take Tony Romo's fourth-quarter interceptions anymore. After Romo threw his second pick of the fourth quarter -- a pick that cost the Cowboys the game against Green Bay -- Bryant decided to head to the locker room even though there was still 1:21 left.

Less than an hour after the game was over, Bryant took to Twitter to explain why he left the field.

Dez Bryant @DezBryant Follow

I walked back to the locker room because I was emotional...it had nothing to do with my teammates we had it... We fought and didn't finish

You can probably understand why Bryant was emotional. At halftime the Cowboys were beating the Packers 26-3. All Dallas had to do in the second half was keep Matt Flynn in check. That sounds easy on paper, but the Cowboys were unable to do it. Flynn threw four touchdown passes in the second half as Green Bay stunned Dallas 37-36.

Romo had a chance at leading a fourth-quarter comeback, but then Romo did what he does, which is throw a late interception. Coach Jason Garrett said after the game that Romo audibled out of a called run play when he threw the pick.

The inteception came on second-and-1 when the Cowboys were at their own 29. Dallas needed about 35 yards to get in Dan Bailey's field-goal range. As it was, Romo threw a pick and the Internet reacted accordingly.

T.O. 2.0. My goodness, you've got Jerrah as your GM, Romo as your QB and this headcase causing a new distraction every week...props to anyone who can stomach rooting for this disaster every week.

I don't think he's TO 2.0. TO needed attention. Dez is just crazy/stupid and his parents never taught him how to be a human. The outcomes might be similar, but their motivations are different.

You do if you're already thinking about your next job. He's just trying to cover his own rear end.

:lmao:

Yes lets throw on field production out thev window when searching for solutions.
do you think Dez or the Cowboys will win a Super Bowl while he's there?
No, but that's not because of Dez. If they had Megatron, they'd still have no shot.
So what's the point of the headache then? To score a lot of points in losses?
To have the best product on the field for the fans paying their wages

The Cowboys haven't opened contract extension negotiations with Dez Bryant yet.

Bryant's rookie contract expires following the 2014 season. Ideally, the cap-strapped Cowboys will maneuver a way to get their most talented offensive player locked up this offseason, but it's not going to be easy. Bryant is coming off back-to-back 90-catch, 1200-yard seasons and has scored 25 touchdowns in his last 32 games. He's earned Calvin Johnson/Larry Fitzgerald kind of money. They also want to get LT Tyron Smith signed to a long-term deal. For what it's worth, Dez doesn't see himself going anywhere. "Hell no. I don't even think about leaving Dallas. I'm Dallas forever," he said.

Rotoworld:

Jerry Jones said Scott Linehan will not let Dez Bryant disappear from the Cowboys' offense for long stretches.
One fair criticism of the Jason Garrett/Bill Callahan offense was forgetting about their best talent far too often. Bryant saw fewer than 10 targets an inexcusable eight times last season. "[Linehan has] got a track record of really zeroing in and building the offense around the talent, the specific talent and the qualities of the players," said Jones, who went on to cite Linehan's work with Randy Moss and Calvin Johnson as examples. Dez is a legit threat to set career-highs across the board in 2014.

Dez Bryant: 'I am in the best shape that I've ever been'By Dan Hanzus

Around the League Writer

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant says he's never been more physically fit than he is right now.

"I am in the best shape that I've ever been," Bryant said Tuesday, according to ESPN.com.

Bryant knows what's at stake as he enters the final year of his rookie contract. With 185 catches, 2,615 yards and 25 touchdowns over the past two seasons, he's set himself up beautifully for a Megatron-like pay day.

"Trust me, I've been working hard," Bryant said. "I've been working six days out of the week. Today is my off day, but I'm going to the facility right now. That's all I've been doing. This year is special."

With his personal life seemingly in order, the only real pause for the Cowboys moving forward is Bryant's back, which has given him trouble over the past two seasons. That said, Bryant has almost always played through the pain -- and played well.

Locking up Bryant long-term should be at the top of Jerry Jones' priority list.

The "Around The League Podcast" predicts which rookie quarterbacks will start first and what veterans are in trouble after the draft.

This will be the best year of his career and with Linehan as the OC he may very well be the WR1 at the end of the season, Williams will help Dez get more one on ones as Williams is a legitimate threat himself. Dez is an animal.

Nope. Big Ben supposedly "hates" Todd Haley, his current OC. Arians and Ben were buddies. Linehan was in Min for some time and they hada potent offense.

Dez Bryant - WR - Cowboys

ESPN Dallas suggests the Cowboys could sign Dez Bryant to a long-term extension in training camp.

Bryant is scheduled to make $1.78 million in the final year of his rookie contract. ESPN's Todd Archer believes that a deal for LT Tyron Smith could take precedence over Bryant. Dallas has just $5.37 million in cap space, so signing him long-term could prove difficult . Bryant will be seeking an annual salary in excess of the three-year, $23 million guaranteed deal Brandon Marshall received from the Bears this offseason.

Rotoworld:

Dez Bryant is getting reps at "Z" and slot during OTAs.

Bryant has mostly been an "X" receiver throughout his four-year career, allowing defenses to locate and swarm him. Scott Linehan, who has helped guide Randy Moss and Calvin Johnson to huge seasons in the past, will do a better job of freeing up Dez. There's no excuse for him to see fewer than 10 targets in a game like he did eight times last year. Thanks to Linehan, a sieve-like defense and unmistakable natural talent, Bryant is a threat to be fantasy's No. 1 receiver this year.

Rotoworld:

Dez Bryant says he dropped a few pounds this offseason and is down to 212-214.

It's worth noting Bryant's 2010 Combine weigh-in was 6-foot-2, 224. He claims he played at 218 last season. Bryant believes a back injury that has nagged him the past few seasons will be less of an issue at the lighter weight. Still only 25 years old, Bryant is entering the final year of his rookie deal.

The Cowboys "would like to move Dez Bryant around more" in new passing-game coordinator Scott Linehan's offense.
Typically an "X" receiver, Bryant worked at Z and slot during spring practices, also shedding nearly ten pounds. Linehan has an extensive history of freeing up Type A No. 1 wideouts, from Randy Moss in Minnesota to Torry Holt in St. Louis and most recently Calvin Johnson. Linehan even coaxed a top-eight fantasy wideout season out of Chris Chambers (82-1,118-11) with the 2005 Dolphins.

At 25 and two years running with the thoroughbreds, at least we do not have to defend Dez' standing in the hyper elite.

Dez Bryant 2012 - 92 grabs, 1382 yards (86.4 yards per game, 15.0 yards per catch, 12 TD
Dez Bryant 2013 - 93 grabs, 1233 yards (77.1 yards per game, 13.3 yards per catch, 13 TD

Dez has dropped a little Skittles weight, Scott Linehan comes to town, Terrance Williams has another offseason to develop, a (hopefully) improved offensive line, and Linehan comes to town to move Dez around the field like a chess board.

It won't take much of a change at all for Dez to continue his ladder climb.

Dez Bryant 2014 - 106 grabs, 1550 yards (96.9 yards per game, 14.6 yards per catch, 15 TD

This is the type of #### kings do.

I felt like Dez got forgotten in the offense too much last year. If there's one thing Linnehan has done well in his career, it's rely on the dominant receiver he has in his offense. Hoping for more consistency from Dez with Linnehan calling the shots.

I think Dez moving around in the formation might be the key to his true assent to #1 overall dynasty player. Too often it felt he would get stuck on one side of the field get doubled and Romo would look elsewhere. We've seen him use pure physical tools to get open and make spectacular catches when Romo does take risks. How good can he be if they actually start to scheme him open?

Dez Bryant - WR - Cowboys

ESPN Dallas indicates Jimmy Graham's four-year, $40 million deal that contains $21 million guaranteed could be a baseline for Dez Bryant's next contract.

That would be the absolute floor for Bryant, who will in all likelihood blow Graham's deal out of the water. Bryant will turn 26 in November, while Graham turns 28 the same month. Bryant, unlike Graham, can beat cornerbacks deep and rip the top off a defense. He arguably hasn't even reached the prime of his career and very well could overtake Calvin Johnson as the top receiver in the game, as Megatron is closing in on his 30th birthday. He's operating on a seven-year, $113 million deal with Detroit. Bryant is set to earn just $1.78 million this season.

Interesting, I didn't know Bryant was a TE now. Seriously, a top WR will make more than TE.

Rotoworld:

ESPN Dallas reports the Cowboys and walk-year WR Dez Bryant have had "several" contract discussions, but are "not close" to a long-term agreement.
According to reporter Tim MacMahon, Bryant believes he's "earned the right to be among the highest-paid receivers in the league," but understands he'll likely have to wait. "I feel like as long as I take care of business on that field, the rest will be taken care of," Bryant said Thursday. Making $1.78 million in the final year of his rookie contract, Bryant is one of the biggest bargains in the league. The Cowboys' salary-cap disaster will surely make any long-term talks complex.

Boy, does this have the look of an all-time classic FF season or what?

A 25 year old WR...

coming off back to back STUD years despite being nicked up...

playing on the last year of his contract...

on a team that just added an OC that has a remarkable track record for developing QB/WR man crushes.....

playing in a division where everyone tends to score fast and furious....

and their defense couldn't stop moss from rolling through it.

There are some great wrs out there and I admit (and some long timers around here already know) I am the first guy to go pound the table for Dez, but this might be that type of year where he is 30-40 point above the next WR. He might break the jumbo jumbo tron over there in Dallas.

I was just coming in here to say the same thing. . His talent is out of this world and his QB is good enough to help those stats reach monster numbers.

Great Points.

Sometimes you have a great player deterred by a bad situation.

Sometimes you have a mediocre player helped by a great situation.

And sometimes you have a great player in a great situation. If you can get one or two of those on your team each year they can make your fantasy football season.

a lot of defenses couldn't stop moss

Whats a reasonable projection for dez im thinking 100/1600/15. With that defense they will be in shootouts in a division with generous cb's for wr1's. Is it crazy to think 2000 yards is attainable this year?

I think so. He has games where he just goes in the tank. The TD numbers will be high though, Romo loves forcing it to him in the RZ.

Love Dez though and hope he goes off this season.

I am taking him at any cost in my drafts. Even at 1.1. I am just thinking that the signs are too obvious this year, plus that division is going to be the worst when it comes to defense. Are there any dbs that are even playing at a probowl level in the NFC east? Plus, it shoudl not go unnoticed that the Cowboys have spent a good deal of investment on the oline the last few years....that should begin to pay off big this year, imo.

I know this seems extreme, but I am pretty confident in my ability to pick up good rbs in the middle rounds, I am not so confident that I would pick the non busting top rb though.

Lol - of course Dez looks good against that boys D. Sure he will get the NFC E but he will also get the NFC W. Patrick Peterson and Richard Sherman will shut him down. And you better hope he does not get an owie again

Any player can get injured.

I'll tell you right now, if they Patrick Peterson on him solely, yeah, we might see a fewer more targets or catches (although with Linehan, I don't know) but we will also see a handful of BIG plays. It's just Peterson's style. He will do a good job but on those 2-3 plays he whiffs on, Dez will take it to the house.

The Seattle game will be interesting because a couple of years ago when they the Cowboys, Dez only caught 3 passes on 7 targets and he said afterwards that he played small and let those guys dictate to him. I think if Dez is truly one of these WR that ascends, he has this game marked as a showcase game. The Lions played the Hawks that same year and Calvin only came away with 3 catches himself so maybe you can't do much against that particular defense.

But I'll take the other 16 weeks.

Every time I see this thread bumped I think of Josh Gordon.
Explain please
Just how he was riding so high and then his character concerns have seemingly derailed his fantasy value. Dez is still a character risk.
You kind of have to put substance abuse issues in a seperate bucket opposed to other kinds of character risks though, due to the vast difference between the respective NFL policies and the way the league deals with them.
