Official Dez Bryant (2 Viewers)

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Cowboys are offering franchise player Dez Bryant over $13 million a year and Bryant is now "more optimistic than ever" that a deal will be reached before Wednesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline.

Rapoport said the two sides had "a long way to go" Tuesday night so it appears they've made progress. Bryant is still hoping for a contract in the neighborhood of Calvin Johnson's eight-year, $150.5 million deal but the Cowboys might sway him by offering a huge amount of guaranteed money. Bryant tweeted Monday that he'd hold out if a deal isn't reached.

According to Profootballtalk, it's "still less than 50-50" the Cowboys will reach a long-term deal with Dez Bryant before Wednesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline.

Bryant's camp considers the Cowboys' latest offer "not great." So far, Bryant hasn't been willing to give Dallas a hometown discount but he may change his tune as the deadline ticks closer. Bryant has promised a holdout if the sides can't agree on a contract, though the Cowboys believe he's bluffing.

The Dallas Morning News' Jon Machota reports the Cowboys are "closing in on a deal" with unsigned franchise player Dez Bryant.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport adds the two sides are "making real progress" toward a long-term deal, and "everyone is optimistic now." Nothing like a good, firm deadline to get the sides together to try and hammer this thing out. We'll surely have more updates on the situation before the 4 PM ET deadline.

I guess I was a little off in teh guaranteed money. But how much of that guarantee is injury only?

Calvin's contract is far and away the highest at 16.2 Mil year and there's no way the Cowboys go that high.

Next up is Mike Wallace (huh?) at 12 Mil a year.

That leaves a huge void to negotiate in. I would guess the main stumbling blocks are guaranteed money and the types of guarantees. Also any offset money.

Pat Kirwan suggested 5 yrs 67.5 Mil with 28 guaranteed.. I would think that's a little low since Dez could play the next 2 years under tag and get almost that guaranteed money.

I would think 5 years 70 Mil with 32 guaranteed.

Bryant hasn't returned a punt since 2012. It's entirely possible nothing will come of this, but it's still interesting the Cowboys would consider putting their star receiver in harm's way on special teams. Dwayne Harris was the Cowboys' primary return man in 2014 but he signed with the Giants this offseason. Lance Dunbar also has experience returning kicks.

I like Dez, but he's such a nutjob I can't help but wonder when this dude is going to go off the deep end. Dallas is literally monitoring this dude 24/7 to ensure he avoids trouble...I mean seriously.

 
Dez isn't going to change much, he is who he is so I am not surprised when he says the things he says. I have gotten to the point for all professional athletes to separate their ability on the field with their stuff off the field. I have Dez as my No 1 fantasy receiver in non ppr leagues. That's all I care about when talking fantasy football.

When talking about and thing else, he's not very high on my list, I think most would agree with that but this is a fantasy football site and the game we play. When he's in my line up, I dont care if he's yelling unless he gets suspended. Then it effects me because it effects my weekly lineup.

Oh, from a FF perspective, he is still a beast. He is a knucklehead beast, but still a beast.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Dez Bryant has a broken bone in his right foot which will require surgery.

Jones said Bryant will be out 4-6 weeks. That timetable would put Week 5 against New England as Bryant's earliest return date, but with the Cowboys on bye Week 6, they would likely decide to give Dez an extra week of rest even if he is close. Bryant will definitely miss Dallas' pivotal divisional game against the Eagles next week. The Cowboys' receiver corps is bare behind Bryant, but Terrance Williams will be on the WR2 map based on volume alone while Dez is out. Cole Beasley also becomes a WR3/4 in PPR formats.

I would take Jarvis Landry in PPR, but that's just me

You won't get much more than WR3 types, but there are some good ones in PPR. Maybe your league has some diehard Cowboys fans, I don't know...

Yeah- tough one. I've thrown out multiple offers (dynasty) but I want the world, lol. I was offered AJ green straight up but I'm wary. Dalton scares me, Romo is much better. If he's back and good to go by week 8 I think all is good. The Cowboys suck just enough to have to throw to win in most games.

What you guys think? Worth unloading him cheap?

Also should add that our regular season winner takes most $. Playoffs winner only makes money back...

The Cowboys opted not to put him on short term IR today which would have ruled him out 8 weeks and opened up a roster spot. They must feel good about his chances to return soon.

Not necessarily. More likely, they hope his return beats IR by even a single week.

If they hope it will be the six weeks then short term IR makes no sense. If it ends up being 8 weeks or more it appears that is a risk they are willing to take .
