Joe,

Look at this:

http://www.4powells.com/frames.jpg

That's the frame rate in the top left hand corner in yellow. All settings are maxxed by the way, AA is at 6 samples.

That's a $150 1900GT in BF2 on the 48 player Titan mode last night we were all playing on. Save yourself some money. That 1900GT is plenty good.
What resolution are you running? 1024 x 768 or larger?
1440 x 900
Just checked Toms Hardware and in the January 2007 "Best Video Card for the Money" Section they have the X1900GT as the best value for the money period if you can find them for $150.00.They don't make the X1900Gt's any more so the prices are starting to climb to $165.00

I can find Nvidia 7900GS's in the $150 - $160 range (after MIR) which Toms Hardware ranks as best buy in the $180 range.

If you want that res to look good and have AA and AF, the X1900GT will make the 7900GS its #####, plain and simple.

Almost done shopping / research. I would like to find a different case. The case Mad Cow linked to is now $59.99 with a $49.99 MIR with free shipping which is going to be very hard to beat price wise.

This one is OK (I have it at home in my gamer):http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811144151

This gets good ratings, but I hated it, though I stuck with it to rebuild our family computer recently before Christmas:

The one thing I really like about the one I linked above (the Cruiser) is that it comes with great fans - 1 front, 1 back and 1 top. Also has a cool retro look with the front dials. Front USB, audio and all.

My stuff just came. Now to wait until tonight to install.

Shawn - what drivers are the ones to get?

I just went with the ones on the CD rom. And then went to creativelabs.com and got the updates. It will detect your card and offer you the updates, just like Windows.

That reminds me, are you going to order: This?
Nope, I'm gonna get This
What the hell for? It's $6 more and has no USB port. it also doesn't have all formats for the card reader. You don't need a floppy any more.
His wife does crafty stuff that requires a floppy. And BIOS updates are nice to have floppies, too.
True dat. Helpful, but not neccesary with the cheap price of CDs

My HPA headset is on my desk and Jessica Alba just came in, got nekkid and begged me to have my way with her, such is the awesomeness of this headset.

And of course I turned her down, because Jessica Simpson and Adriana Lima beat her there and I was just spent.

Nice, but did you read that link I sent you about the PSUs? Hiper is listed as their bottom tier of brands of PSUs. Either save yourself $35 and get the XCLIO Goodpower for $52, or spend a little more and get an OCZ GamerXStream for like $99. Those are the best buys at those price points.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16817341001

Actually available cheaper elsewhere.

The H series Hiper are lower rated. The R series, of which this is one, is rated more stable than many higher end "overclock snobby" ones. I did my research here.

Extreme Overclocking Hiper R Review

Another sterling review

And yet another

The other great thing about this modular one is that the connectors are foolproof and will not come off. They stay on rock solid, which is where most modular systems have problems.
:sadbanana: Okay Gator any sites that review the Goodpower?? It would save $35.00 if its a good power supply.
I have not heard bad things about Goodpower. Here is one that is OK

Dang short one

So, I guess I have to ask, Amish Boy. . . Google down?

While you are saving $35 between the 2 PSU's, keep in mind you are also losing 80W, which will be bigger if you are planning on keeping that PSU for DX10 cards, which WILL require a lot more power.

What happened to the good 'ole days when this thread was about BF2/BF2142?
:pickle: Sorry, my bad
Just giving ya'll a hard time. ;) Carry on.
Shut up and go build a computer or buy a headset.
:bs: I just built my PC about 6 months ago, so I'm not quite ready for a new one...My headset, on the other hand, is an entirely different story... I'm still using the headset that came with my SOCOM (1st version) for the PS2 :bag: I'm taking notes and waiting for the consensus from all ya'll before I pony up the dough to get a new one.

If you want to get a good piece of ###, then the TB HPA is the way to go, as you can see from my experience. If you want an inferior ### hat, then get the PC150. ;)

WTF Shawn - This POS Extreme Gamer does not have a microphone input? I am gonna have to keep onboard mike or use that Riviera for the TS, I suppose.

Very happy with this case that I bought for mine:

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16811147011

Though it doesn't have front audio jacks or firewire, but I use a breakout box for that too.

That reminds me, are you going to order: This?

If you do choose the case I suggested above, buy this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813999356
I have this case:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811119094

Has 2 USB, Firewire, mic, headphone on the top, 5 slots for 5 1/4 and 1 for 3 1/2 drives. Front fan blows right across the hard drive cage inside, and lights up blue. I like it, it was/is easy to work on and it is relatively quiet. Only thing I think I would have liked is a top blowhole for a fan, but if I really want that I'll get the hole cutter out and make one.

I've got this one. The dang thing's got 3 fans. Surprisingly, it's not as noisy as I thought it would be.

They were in the first link I gave you. and that first review Mad COw post is hardly as sterling review. It basically says the PSU is adequate and not a POS. Just buy the Hiper.

I don't know why I was thinking of it, but I think a user-made video of either BF2 or 2142 would be pretty sweet if done to the music of Zombie by the Cranberries.

It could be the alternative music I have on in my office.

Oh come on, that is not what it says. It says it is a very good and solid PSU. There is another review that compares it to other high ends, let me see if I can find it:http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/other/display/atx-psu6.html

That one reviews a lower end model than the 580W that I have and while it is not great, it does not bash it. It is improved with the R-series.

Nevertheless, a good PSU is a must, especially if you are going to OC.

For all the hype that surrounded this power supply though, I can't say that it really something revolutionary that blew away my expectations. The actual internal design (the "guts") is really not that different than what you would find in any good quality power supply. The Type-R differentiates itself more by the custom cabling & chassis designs, which too is an important aspect of a good PSU. All in all, if someone was looking for a PSU that was just a little different than the rest, then I would not hesitate to recommend this PSU for them to consider.
Adequate. Not junk. Were it not for the modular design, it doesn't sound like he would recommend it over other similar PSUs.By contrast, both recent XCLio reviews were "Highly recommended."

Shawn, I have decided I need to use more smilies with you. I make statements (such as my no mike comment) that I intend to be in fun and they must come off badly. Just assume if I am being a ####, then I am trying to be funny. Poorly.

:hot:

BTW - I will be hooking this card and headset up shortly. Anyone up for a game tonight? (is that better sgt.cramer?)

Cool. Now the question is this - do I set up the X-Fi as if it has 5.1 speakers, or headset? I am gonna guess 5.1 since it has all of those input plugs.
