***OFFICIAL*** FBG All things BATTLEFIELD Thread (2 Viewers)

I thought I would offer this here first before I offered it to FBG as a whole. When I bought my 5850, it came with a free copy of Dirt 2, downloadable via Steam. Any FBG's interested? No cost to you, I can PM the code so you can put it in. I will give preference to any FBG's that I have gamed with via PC, then to FBG's as a whole. Just post here if you want consideration for the copy. Maelstrom, Corp, Joe, TLEF, etc would have first dibs.
No one yet?
Sure, I'll take it.
K, want me to send the code to your Steam messaging? Nah, I will just PM it now.Enjoy.
Please let me know when you have redeemed it so I can destroy this card.
:goodposting: It's downloading right now. Thank you.

I'm actually usually at the top of the leaderboard, but I get most of my points by spotting, healing or reviving players.I kill a lot too, I just tend to die even more.
This is why I don't get the Skill Rating. I would expect yours to be higher than mine. I don't think K/D has much to do with it but maybe it does. What is yours?
I just checked mine, 81 :goodposting:
Apparently I suck at this game less than I thought? 182 here.
What site can you go to to check your skill rating? Or is it in-game and I just haven't seen it?

Doh, completely missed this, looks like fun.

In game called stats or something

Had a good time playing with dude, vlade, badger, evilbetty, and another guy I know. Most of the night we were winning on both offense and defense. We had some sweet defense on Nelson Bay where we had three medics and one assault guarding a M-Com station just repelling wave after wave of enemies. Also got the pin for destroying 4 M-COM stations and ended up with five total on Port Valdez. Had a sweet game with 60 kills and 21 deaths on Valparaiso. I ended up with eight dog tags that were donated by three separate snipers. I now have a score of 3,679 Assault, 74,994 Engineer, 33,157 Recon, 98,087 Medic, 74,000 Vehicle, and 359,600 Awards.

Skill level seems to fluctuate tremendously in this game. A couple of days ago I was at 162. Then I had a really bad game where I could never get into the flow of things at all, and I got a pop-up that said something like "Due to your recent poor performance, your skill level has been demoted to zero" or something to that effect. Then I had some good games and it got up around 180, then it dropped back to 113, and I think it was back to around 150 as of last night but I'm not positive because there seems to be a lag in the stats updating. This was all over the course of about three days, maybe 6 hours of play.

 Seriously?

I think Port Valdez is my favorite map. My Brother-inlaw and I dominated last night with the Sherman. We both were running as Engineers which is fast becoming my favorite class over Recon (which I am one more level away from unlocking everything). It is amazing how much better we both play when we are a squad and have full communication. It is night and day.

You can easiily tell guys who are soloing over guys who have a "plan". It kills me when I see guys trying to drive a tank with no support....why? That can be aggravating as they are wasting good armor.

And land mines are friggin $$$$$

I can't wait for the DLC content for this... I'm not at all bored with the maps as yet, but adding more maps for Conquest will make me love this game even more.

I agree 100% with Tlef regarding 'Rambo', that will ABSOLUTELY be nerfed. In 3 rounds last night I had easily 100+ kills with a >4 K/D ratio. 4x scope + Mag rounds isn't even fair. If I were playing on the PC to be able to aim a bit faster/track targets easier I know that'd be higher.

Last night after getting top player in the match two rounds in a row I got put down to zero again. :excited: By the end of the night it was back up to 180ish. That's the third time it has happened to me so far.

I enjoy and can play medic fairly well, but it is so hard to level up quickly in assault. No one hangs around ammo boxes to get resupplies and I am just not quick enough for the in-your-face style faceoffs. From afar, I am fine. I just am not used to the close ones and usually end with a knife in the head. :bag:

:bs:

I was in a round, got the win, then before it would go to tally my score, I got booted, giving me zero points, when I should have unlocked the Aug. :hot:

Assault is all about grenades, both the 40mm and the standard. It's really more of a suppressioin class than an in-your-face class. The medic is actually better for point blank fights. It doesn't really make much sense since an assault class should be good at assaulting and a suppresion/medic class should be good at, well, suppressing and healing, but that's how it plays.

Yes, no joke. I seriously got a pop-up along those lines and it reset my skill level to zero. From what I've gathered, this starts to happen after you hit level 22 or 23. At that point, you get a pop-up that welcomes to you the "officer" ranks and tells you that things are going to get tougher from now.

This hasn't been my experience at all. If I'm already crouched and scoped-in and you enter my line of fire, yes you are going to die. But if each of us is running around and we suddenly bump into each other, I probably lose those matchups to engineers and assualt guys 75% or so of the time. Partly it's because I'm not that good, but SMGs and ARs have a better ROF that LMGs, and they're much easier to fire without scoping in or staying stationary, so I don't think it's entirely me.

Assault WAS my favorite class, but after playing some medic, I can't really go back. Assault should own the Mid range game, but it is too aggravating to constantly lose to medics because they out damage my assault rifle. Of course I win with the Pro Tube, but I tend not to use that against infantry in open areas. I think it comes down to bullet spread. In non hardcore games, I have to hit the enemy 5-6+ times with my AR to get the kill, which requires lots of bursting to be at all accurate. However, a medic needs around the same number of hits, but they can practically do continuous fire to achieve that.

Really liking Engy + 8 rounds of Carl Gustav ammo for taking apart buildings

The ammo capacity of the LMGs mean you can just unload in close quarters. The SMGs and assualt rifles are really only good for one guy if that individual is actively trying to make you miss (especially the SMG's). If it's anything other than a straight one-on-one you are going to get caught with a pistol or reloading. If you get good with the 40mm you can compensate for this drawback, but you still don't have the longevity of fire.Everybody's different though. I played mostly assault and engineer before I got the M60. That gun with magnum ammo really changes the medic class.

I play an attacking medic is this game a lot and have quite a few close encounters especially at M-COM stations. The tactic that works well for me is to NOT ADS, but blind fire at almost full auto and use the hit markers to guide your shot. Also a key point is to hold down on the control stick(obviously if PC then the mouse) so it counters the recoil. I have been able to take M-COM stations with 3-4 guys in them camping because the blind fire works quickly and you can swivel your character and dodge much better while not aiming down the sight. For the Gears players this is much like the reason you set your sensitivity to high on the movement area.Edit- I do this with the medic and engineers both, so I assume it would work with the assault also. I have also become fond of the 2nd pistol for its decent damage and 17 bullet clip. I find the 7 bullet WWII pistol to leave me a few shots short of multiple kills if I run into more than one guy.

Assault is the worst, I thought engi was bad, but at least you can constantly be repairing things and laying AT Mines.

Eight Gustav's with extra demolitions damage is second only to the Medic M60/Magnum combo for rampant destruction. It's like a stronger, more accurate, long distance grenade that can go through walls.

Close to a gold with the X8 proto, then will move on to the Aug. Never did try the one between. The irony is that in real life the Aug is far superior to the M16. I saw the Future Weapons episode saying how it had more punch and was almost as accurate as some sniper rifles, then it gets crap stats in all the games.

It was good in CS.

I'm not arguing that works for you, but I would guess I get gunned down 100% of the time when I try this, and when I'm one of the "camping" guys, we win virtually 100% of the time. Blind firing with the LMG might work against one opponent, particularly with limited visibility, but almost every time I've been involved in a situation like this whether on offense or defense, it ends up being suicide for the attacking player. My usual strategy with M-COMs is to arm it (or let a teammate arm it) and then get a little ways away from it behind some cover. Then I can scope in and pick off people who try to disarm it. I can do that all day by firing the M60 as a semi-auto. Getting in close and relying on full auto to bail me out seldom works. The LMG has too much bullet spread while the SMGs and ARs that storming enemies use tend put me down before I can take out more than one or maybe two guys.

Edit: Having said that, I sometimes get the feeling that the PC game is a completely different beast than the console version. People in here keep talking about racking up 4:1 KDRs while being right in the thick of things, and I'm pretty sure that's impossible on a console. I think my very best K:D sessions ever (not counting rounds where I was able to stay in a tank or mounted gun the whole time) were maybe something like 2:1. Maybe it's easier to play Rambo with a keyboard and mouse.

Yep that's what I do a lot of, just at the times when you have to disarm a M-COM station and you have to bust into the house knowing there will be multiple guys around, I like the extra movement.

Perhaps for some, but my best K/D is never better than 2:1. Of course, maybe I just suck in the grand scope of things with FPS, as well.

I am loving the Aug so far. Favorite moment of the day. Running up to B from Russians at Panama, I can see B is being taken, so I shoot a Pro Pipe™ up towards that area. I rack up like 400 points with 3 kills, a double kill a few flag defenses, squad defend, etc. :goodposting:

PRO PIPER™And the best part is, it was totally random. I expected to get nothing.

ETA get the PC game and join us Meat. Schmutzig should be joining us soon as well.

I think at this point I am going to max out Assault as quickly as I can, then move on to Engineer, since I am well underway with that to this point, then probably finish up with Recon.

So, on Fridays, I go on a run after I close my office at 3pm. Today, after a few blocks, I saw something out of the corner of my eye and looked around to see if someone was gonna combat knife me. :lmao: :lmao:

Every time I walk into a room, I immediately spin around and face into one of the corners behind me to see if someone is camping there.

School had just gotten out and so there were lots of kids walking in groups around the area. I have to admit I found myself judging the angle I would need to hold the PRO PIPE™ to get a multi-kill. :bag: Oh, and driving home, totally figuring out lead to hit cars with my AR. :lmao:

I'm in DC for the weekend and on the drive up here I would flinch every time I saw a helicoptor or plane in the sky. My wife turned and said, "You're playing these war games WAY too much."

I was :goodposting:

After getting more play (only) level 3 , I change my mind about recon being bad on defense, recon is fine and lovely as long as you aren't using a sniper weapon. The ability to mortar/c4 combined with one of the non sniper guns is fine,

Recon is perfectly fine as a class most of the time. Its just that many who play it don't know when to push or hold the line instead of hiding the whole game. There are vital points in the matches that it is time to bust out your pistol and grenade and do some work when they are surging.

running the G3 in the Eng Class. its pretty sweet. also the silenced snipers are fun and money from mid-range...

interesting (and disappointing) tid bit i picked up on the steam forums.

All the game sound is software rendered. It doesn't use your sound card at all.

A dice developer was saying that something about the way the sound works made it very difficult to set it up for both software and hardware mixing.

So, basically, this further enforces the point that this game is VERY CPU intensive. My performance has been good, so I'm not complaining. But something like this costs the player some performance.

Played a few games with Kilgore Trout over the past several days, including some squad DM today. I didn't even realize that that mode existed; I thought it wasn't unlocking until the end of the month, but I guess that must be squad rush instead. A couple of guys with mics who work together can clean up in that mode. We played three rounds, winning two and just barely missing a win in the third.
