im totally for this. Its impossible for a ground pounder to see how much stregnth the planes had, because it was impossible to hit them.  planes need to be strong, but pre-patch they were basically invulnerable

honestly, i hope they dont nerf the choppers HP's that badly. I almost never play in them, but there was something fun about avoiding the blackhawks and taking them out with a 50 cal. If they just fixed the AA and kept the choppers at their old HP, i would have been happy. It will be interesting to see just how badly they were nerfed. As long as it wasnt a huge decuction it will be ok. Blackhawks should be able so survive some fire, but several AT rockets or an extended bout with a 50 cal should bring them down
I actually flew a blackhawk alone last night on gulf of oman and got a few kills. I flew out to the leftmost base turned hovered, hit F3 and fired off a few rounds from the gatling. Was able to get 2 kills before someone got to the AA emplacement there and locked me up. I couldn't get any momentum built up in time and even though I dropped flares, he still nailed me.Edited to add: I did this because everyone kept waiting for the Cobra and F35s. No one would get into the Blackhawk with me. :)

good stuff here. a guy named "planewhore" who has posted some pretty impressive flight videos. One of the guys who could go several rounds in a plane without dying

To all those pilots who enjoyed flying planes and getting a respectable amount of kills and doing what a jet pilot is supposed to do, I'm sorry. I ran in to quite a few people just like this, who were average pilots who enjoyed to fly. Unlike what the aviator antagonists might have you believe, the vast majority of pilots had a tough time getting anywhere near a 10:1 kill/death ratio, or recieving consecutive gold medals.

It's no shock to me though, I knew this day would come the second I saw the 1.2 patch notes, as it is the cumulative resulting kneejerked reaction of many months of whining from a select group of unskilled unadaptive whiny BF2 players complaining repeatedly.

I showed people and told people how to make ground based AA extremely effective versus pilots like me, some listened, but the whiners refused to adapt and persisted in their barrage of complaints. To those who refused to step in to an AA battery, I showed them how to ground a plane the entire game with a small preemptive assault on an enemy airfield. The whiners refused to acknowledge that planes were both limited in quantity, and in versatility.

I showed people with a video with well over 8000+ downloads how one single pilot with proper technique and skill could render the enemies air force next to worthless, but amazingly enough the whines still persisted. What more training and direction could these people require?

Now we've got 1.2 patch, where no matter how good you are if you've got a missile lock tone and no flares, you're pretty much toast. No more do players have to think, adapt, and use technique when trying to down skilled aircraft pilots. No longer do dogfights take skill and no longer can the rare uber pilots make the kind of impact that their training has rightfully awarded them. The average pilot has it even worse, as now they're sure to be much better off on the ground with the rest of the herd spamming grenades or insta-exploding C4 as they'll be far more effective.

The 1.2 patch is a mockery to this game, and especially to me, and to the pinnacle of aviation skill that I worked hard to achieve. Yes, it was me who got the planes nerfed, and for that I apologize to all the other pilots who enjoyed flying them as much as I did. It is a disgrace that the only fighter plane available to my team, which is a rare and valueable asset, and commanded by someone of my infinite skill level can be nullified by one brand new freshly installed private who happens to stumble in to an AA launcher by chance and point + click in my general direction.

Shame on you dice for being so ignorant, and shame on me for being so damn good.
Translation: There is little else in my pimply-faced, lonely existence beyond r00ling people in jets on a video game. To add insult to injury, you're going to make the worst day of the year even "worserer" than it already is.

Also, if you patch now you can't play on any servers til they are patched as well.

Same file size as the one I dl's at home this AM, but I am grabbing this one from work with my crappy DSL. :thumbdown:
 
My 2nd 7800 GT arrives today, and I picked up some round IDE cables to try and clean up my case. :nerd: :thumbup:

 
just played for a few minutes(lagged out) it takes a while to go prone and get up now. Guys will no longer be able to go prone going around every corner :thumbup:

doesnt look like the lower ranks get a rank bump. I'm now a gunnery sarge in a world of sargent majors and lieutenants.

yeah, they go alot further, im gonna have to master using the right click to adjust the distance. they go further, but they are tougher to place

Its funny seing the guys who go prone whenever they see anybody try to play. They are so easy to kill now

I am still trying to make my new rig all pretty inside and hiding cables, then I get to install the SLI vid card and then I will be set. This is going to be my go-to machine for BF2. I have never seen it load so fast before. It cruises through the account server in about 3-4 seconds, gets to 62% in around 6-7 seconds, and logs on dang fast. Let's just say on a fresh map load, I can whore all of the choppers I want. :boxing:

What do you attribute that to? More RAM? I can't imagine the video card has anything to do with loading time.

RAM and CPU. I have 2 gig of very fast low timing RAM that is OC'd and my CPU OC'd to surpass the level of an FX-57. The video cards do help with some of the process, though, as it starts getting the textures and such ready.

It actually stopped the install, told me I was a very handsome man, and then gave m a little :shock: at my system specs and went on. :thumbup: SLI is IN EFFECT, and the cables are tucked. :eek: I will post a picture sometime soon.

 
i wish i had somewhere to tuck my cables. There are just too many of them and the side of my case is glass. Looks ugly.

I also just tank whored for a round on mashtuur. Spawned at the backyard and took the tank like 5 times. Got the gold star. I feel dirty.

New patch is ok. There are some things i like (improved AA, slower prone times, no dolphin diving, noob tubing is severly nerfed, grenades can be thrown further)

Things i dont like..... Support weapons have seen a huge freaking boost in accuracy. At mid range, unless the other guy sucks, kiss yourself good bye. I think they needed some boost, but time will tell if it was too much. I know that sniper rifles have seen a massive boost, but it too was needed. I still outsnipe bad snipers with the Spec ops unlock, but good snipers and lucky ones take me out. Thats the way it should be.

I didnt advance in rank :( still 8,000 pts to go

ive gotten alot better in the past few weeks. Im almost always in the top 4 or 5 on my team and im in a serious hunt for one of the stars like every other round. Got a gold, a silver and 2 bronzes today i think.

:goodposting: Noticed both that the support and sniper weapons have had their accuracy increased.

TLEF did you notice the last 10 minutes of that round on Sharqui turned into a sniper dual?

Spawn, run for cover, poke head around corner, BLAM!!!! :hot:

Rinse, repeat

Though I did the same to a few of the soldiers on the opposing side :)

 
i have noticed an influx of snipers, but i think that will die down as the novelty wears off. People will go back to the other classes. I've barely played sniper in this game, as i love running and gunning.

overall, its good, but they didnt fix the name bug, which sucks. Some guy kept spawning with a blue name. I knew who he was, so i shot him anyway. It didnt show up on the side of my screen, but i got the points. Very strange bug. its a shame they couldnt fix it. I couldnt imagine having to go through all those lines of code to find it :shock:

 
the pilots who are crying need to take a good hard look at this game and re-evaluate their idea of game balance. I just played a round of oman and the other team was plane raping us up and down the coast line for the whole round. Sure a few got shot down, but thats supposed to happen. If the pilots are good and work together, they can keep the AA sites down and maintain their dominance. If they suck, and buzz around like morons, its crash and burn for them

I think DICE did a good job in balancing this phase of the game. Sure they still killed me alot, but at least this time i felt like they earned it.

Plane raping is over. I've played 4 maps tonight and have a better than 1-1 kill ratio. The new changes suit my "style" perfectly. It's funny watching guys try to bunny hop only to have me hitting them as they bounce around while they cannot shoot back.I have taken out two Blackhawks with the coax on a T-90.

I took out an SU-35 with a stinger at a mounted AA site. They lock faster and seem to reload quicker.

The SA80 is considerably more accurate now.

You can throw grenades quite a bit farther especially with the right click. YOu can throw them from far enough away that you can hide before they react and more importantly, they explode almost as soon as they hit from long range.

This is awesome. The hardcore gamers will adapt and overcome, but at least for a while, I have been placing just out of the medal in each game tonight. 130 pts in 4 matches is nice for me.

 
Just played with Horrible Joe. This guy ran right at me and immediately dropped to the ground, he tried to pop back up, but just kinda laid there. It will be easy pickings until the former dolphin divers realized they are screwed.

Yes, snipers are more abundant and deadly.

 
I did find two more things that weren't advertised:

1. There is a delay now when sighting in a target to determine red or blue. It may be a by-product of the bug fixes, but I'm not sure. It IS more realistic in that it does take time to identify friend or foe. But it's aggravating as the first shot often wins in tank duels.

2. Evidently, claymores aren't tripped by friendlies any more. I do have a problem with that. A motion sensor is a motion sensor.

 
agreed about the claymores. If you cant see the symbol that shows a friendly claymore, you deserve to wait 15 secs to respawn. It sucks that guys were getting tk's for it, but there had to be a better solution than this.

I don't even know your wife and I knew what the outcome would be.Right clicking is the same as before, it's just that the range has increased so it's more difficult to get the right range. Before the range you could throw was "right at your damn feet" to about 20 meters away. Now you can probably throw 30+ meters down to right at your feet. Just a wider range so more precision is needed.

Duh!! you're supposed to have to work to stay alive. This is game is more than just a shooting gallery for choppers

You know, I am a chopper pilot and never racked up the points these guys do and always fled whenever I got locked on. Doesn't bother me much about the changes - I am pretty happy with them. Just wish I got a new rank in the shuffle. :kicksrock:
 
The bottom line is, if you even remotely tried to play a tactical game, the changes don't really impact you.

A guy on one board actually complained that the only way to overcome the changes was to use teamwork. Duh. That's really what the game was supposed to simulate.

I am not sure that stat is even tracked correctly. I know I have not been killed more than 5 times with a defib, since I always look to see how I got kilt. I wonder if it has anything to do with attempted revives that fail? Not sure.
