A couple of questions for those better in the know that I am:

Between the GeForce GTX 770 vs Radeon 7970, which is better? Or perhaps my question should be, is the 770 an additional $60 better?

Here is what I'm looking at, either of these two GTX 770's (1, 2) - The only difference I see in these two are that one is from EVGA and one from ASUS. The EVGA card saves me shipping, which is only a matter of $6.

These are the Radeons I'm looking at: (1, 2) - Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the only difference I can see in these two is the price. Both are Sapphire cards. The first is $40 cheaper than the second. I'm really interested in the Batman Arkham Origins bundle-in, but for the savings, I can buy it (or just wait for Steam sale and save even more). Will this card have me playing at Optimal settings in Battlefield 4?

I'll hang up and listen.

In the Bf4 Beta, the 770 beat the 7970 by like 13% in terms of average frames per second on ultra settings. They dont really say which version of the cards they are using though. Don't know if that's the 2 GB or 4GB version of the 770.
Watch the 7970 prices. They are dipping like crazy. There was that one for $230 last week, then another for $250 a few days ago. That might be the best performance/dollar for the low price.

As for performance, keep in mind both AMD and NVidia have announced they will have BF4 optimized drivers released soon, so I expect a lot of leveling in tiers in terms of performance. What card do you currently have? Possible to go XFire or SLI for less for better performance?

10+ minutes of new map footage

LVLCAP got to go to EA HQ and play all the maps. Only got to post vids of FloodZone, but it looks pretty sweet.
That looks awesome.

I decided a couple of days ago that I'm definitely going with BF4 for PS4 at launch (over Killzone). Really looking forward to 32 vs. 32. I know you PC guys have had this forever, but as a console-only player I'm jazzed for the higher player counts.

Where do you see prices like this. The $350 was the cheapest I've seen the 7970.

Just see them as I look around. In all fairness, I posted the 7970 for $230.

Guess I missed that deal from you. I also take it that since you did that you feel the 670 is a step up from the 7970.Also please post more you find. I'm looking to buy asap.

Roger that. I did the 670 because it was the cheapest way to get maximum performance going sli since I already had one.

always cracks me up to see just how dumb/bad people are at this game.

Just had a colonel lvl 20 ask "what can a recon do against a tank?" in chat.

pre-load now available for my fellow PC guys
As you guys gain some experience with this, please post reviews/opinions. As I mentioned above, I this preordered for a next-gen console, and I'm interested in hearing about map design, weapon balancing, etc.
Pre-load only. It's so we just have to hit 'play' once the game unlocks. No need for download. We still have to wait til Tuesday with the rest of ya.

Oh Ivan, do you already have a 360? If so, buy Battlefield 4 for that at launch and then trade it in for Battlefield 4 on XBox One for $10 more when that comes out.

I get that part, but "next gen" isn't "next Tuesday" for most of us. :) Please be liberal with information.

I realized that was what you meant when I posted the follow-up above. Except I remember now that you said PS4, not XBox One. Same applies. If you currently own a PS3, buy Battlefield 4 on Tuesday. Play for a month til PS4 release. Buy PS4 and upgrade BF4 for $10. All of your stats will transfer.

We also get to start two hours earlier than everyone else. My unlock opens up on 11pm on the 28th.

I'm trying to find the link where I read that. I hope I didn't misread it. Maybe it's just the time zone difference that has me off but I could have swore i read that earlier today. I"m going to double check.

Yeah. I think the game just unlocks for all of the USA at midnight EST.

I'll certainly be posting impressions. Probably some vids as well

Busy day with a half marathon and kids games, etc. Started transferring files to a back-up, hopefully build and startall the new installs tomorrow.

I should do this. PSN is giving a $10 credit for every $50 you spend, so I would basically get a month head start for free, using the $10 credit for the upgrade.

Edit: Yeah, this is a no-brainer. It's the exact same $60 I would spend on disc copy, and I get to start learning the maps next week instead of waiting until the 15th. I'm a dumb-### for not realizing this earlier. Thanks for the tip.

Edit 2: I'm jealous that you guys can do the download now and just push a button on launch day. Sony and Microsoft need to implement something similar for next gen if they really want to push digital delivery.

Any reason to preorder the deluxe edition?
Not from what I can see. You get a few extra battle packs and I believe some vehicle shortcuts (you get unlocks right away). Doesn't really seem worth it to me.

My play time could be spotty this week after the game comes out. My birthday is Thursday (its a big one...) and I'm like 54% sure my family is trying to throw me some some sort of surprise party on Wednesday (despite months of stern warnings not to do so). And I'm guessing Tuesday will be bad in terms of connectivity (first day usually is).

Been on kind of a marathon session over the past day or so trying to get to 50,000 kills in Bf3. I'm like 100 away.

I only ordered the base game, I presume there is a premium option again. Not sure if that is already out

Is Deluxe different from Premium? I only ordered the base game.

Yeah, deluxe is basically an extra $10 for some nonsense. (extra battlepacks, vehicle shortcuts) Not the same as premium.

The vehicle shortcuts are for Battlefield 3. Unless you plan on playing BF3 a ton more, there is no point of the Deluxe Edition.

Yeah, lots of folks vpn'ing in. For bf3, they ended up opening the game up a few hours early because everyone was playing anyway.

This week continues to get busier. Lame

I thought I remembered playing BF3 a few hours earlier. Couldn't remember if we did it by VPN or what.

I have no idea how to vpn. I think they just realized that the horse was already out of the barn and decided to just screw the street date.

Hopefully they do the same tonight. I don't think I have a midnight session in me

Installing Mumble at work. I might get some in tomorrow, but I did schedule out a few hours to play Thursday morning. :bag:

Big news from NVidia today. Glad I waited on buying a video card.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2013/10/28/nvidia-issues-aggressive-33-percent-price-drops-for-geforce-gtx-780-770-graphics-cards/

Nvidia Issues Aggressive Price Drops For GeForce GTX 780, 770 Graphics CardsWhen you’re one of only two key players in the desktop graphics card space, healthy competition can be the catalyst for near-instant change. In the case of AMD versus Nvidia NVDA -0.2%, the benefit of that competition to enthusiasts has never been better: On October 29, Nvidia will slash the suggested e-tail price of its newer GTX 770 and GTX 780 GPUs by more than $150.

I had to double check that it was only 5 months ago when I shared the benchmarks for Nvidia’s newly released GTX 780. At the time it was a comparatively strong value, delivering performance close to its older brother Titan for $350 less.

Then, earlier this month AMD rolled out its R9 series, promising specifically that its flagship 290X card would not only outperform Nvidia’s GTX 780, but would do so for $100 less. As you can see from one of my internal benchmark tests below, they delivered on that promise.

The tech press seemed to unanimously publish that opinion last week when the embargo for AMD’s R9 290X lifted. Even yours truly who has typically been a fan of Nvidia for their build quality and exceptional drivers, found myself swayed by the compelling price/performance ratio of AMD’s entire R9 lineup.

A price drop from Nvidia was inevitable, but I’m not certain anyone expected one so drastic.

Tomorrow the GTX 780 drops from $649 to $499, effectively undercutting AMD’s R9 290X by $50. Factor Nvidia’s GeForce Holiday Bundle into the equation — serving up free copies of Assassin’s Creed IV, Splinter Cell Blacklist, and Batman: Arkham Origins in addition to $100 off the Shield console — and Nvidia becomes the clear price leader.

The R9 290X does marginally outperform the GTX 780, but with this new pricing my recommendation falls back to Nvidia.

Tomorrow also sees the GTX 770 fall from $499 to $329, doing battle with AMD’s $299 R9 280X. Purchasing the 770 also entitles consumers to Nvidia’s GeForce Holiday Bundle.

So why didn’t Nvidia undercut the 280X as well? I can’t answer that, but I can hazard a guess as to why they’ve positioned the GTX 780 at $499. Technically the 280X is an overclocked and rebranded Radeon HD 7970, while the 290X represents brand new GPU architecture from AMD. If I wanted to hit my competition where it hurts the most, I’d target their flagship product bristling with new silicon and technology.

Nvidia will likely explain these price drops as being influenced by their newly announced but still mysterious GTX 780 Ti, but such dramatic price drops after only 5 months is unprecedented. It’s more reasonable that AMD’s surprisingly strong R9 series — barely two weeks old — forced Nvidia into this corner.

The ironic thing here is that with Nvidia positioning the GTX 780 at $499 (which will be perceived correctly as a $150 price cut), AMD’s victory with its new flagship GPU may be short-lived — a victim of its own success — as Nvidia heads into the holidays with the better value. That is unless AMD responds in kind.

Ugh. Pretty weak that they did that like 9 days after I got my card. Apparently Amazon has a non-advertised price match guarantee if their own price drops within 30 days.

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/chatterbox/2007/01/amazons_secret_price_guarantee.html

Gonna see where my 770 goes down to and give them a call. Hopefully they refund the difference. Otherwise I may actually go through the pain of buying a new one and sending the old one back. Usually I wouldn't bother, but when its $170, its worth the trouble.

edit: I could also see myself getting a 2nd one for Xmas and going SLI for the first time :nerd:

My current mobo is only pcie 2.0. Any performance hit if I put a pcie 3.0 card in there?

No, what you get is the cards won't be as fast. Of course, your cpu might be throttling it anyway. You need at least Ivy Bridge to take advantage of pcie 3.0. Even Sandy Bridge would only take advantage of 2.0.

yeah, i have a i7 2600K Sandy Bridge oc'd to 4.3ghz. So you're saying they "won't" be as fast. Is it worth it to upgrade then?

And can someone repost the mumble info so I can not succesfully connect to it when I play? Looking forward to seeing you nerds later in the week.
