Jumped in for a quick round and it is growing on me. I am hopeful that the final game animations will be fixed. They seem far too jerky right now, not fluid at all. Stats seem sporadic if they are up or not. I unlocked a couple of weapons this AM and they were not available a few moments ago.

bummerI don't think my processor or my vid card are up to snuff.

Woot, I just can't get into this beta. I am still super stoked about the regular release though. Are you able to get into games together reliably?

Maelstrom and I were in 2 rounds together and we pretty much kicked the crap out of the other team. On attacking, we had 2 other pretty good players in the squad and we just rolled that other team. I have never seen it go so fast. Then on defense, Mael and I and one other guy camped the bottom of their hill and just laid waste to their team. They tried so hard to break out, but they failed to destroy a single node. :lmao:

Good times, Mael.

My favorite moment of the night was on defense and one of their players was trying to get by us on the quad. I hit the noob tube and hit him as he passed by just perfect. Blew up the quad and send his lifeless body careening down to road. :lmao: :X Got like 180 points for that all in all.

It was fun. HorribleJoe joined just after you took off, and we got a couple rounds in also. We jumped to a different server that was full up just about, talk about mayhem. Small map for 32 players, it seemed.I managed to be 3rd on our side for one of the rounds, Cooleyo would have been proud as I medic whored my way to the top of the rankings. Good times indeed :headbang:

Finally got everything working. Maelstrom could you hear me in squad chat last night? I could hear you but you didn't seem to be able to hear me. BTW nice flip landing with the helicopter. Made for a spectacular explosion

Overall I'm a little underwhelmed with the game. I need to play a little more to understand the game and get used to the controls and map(s). I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with any of the weapons. Have no idea how to aim the noob tube or what kind of range it has. :bag:

I HATE the sights on the default assault rifle. :yucky: Maybe it will get better with some unlocked weapons or scopes.

Tried to snipe and missed going prone. I know why they don't have it in the game but I think its a mistake leaving it out. Let me go prone to snipe, I don't care if there is a delay or long animation to solve the dolphin diving insta prone problem, just let me go prone and set up a nice ambush. And yes, crouch needs changed to a toggle ASAP!

After playing COD:MW2 the controls in Battlefield feel "mushy". Not just the running and movement but aiming and firing did not seem crisp or satisfying. I may need to tweak the control settings in game to make them more sensitive.

In the Rush game mode where do you see how much time / how many tickets are left before the attacking side loses? I played a couple of games that seemed to go forever before the attacking side finally lost. Played another game and in what seemed like 3 minutes the attacking side lost. Does the attacking team get extra time/tickets every time they capture a point?

I'll keep playing the Beta and look forward to when the live game ships but if I had to make a choice after playing it once I would choose COD:MW2

In response to gamer boy....

- the default assault rifle is absolutely terrible. the other ones you can unlock in the beta are better. Plus, you get a red-dot site that you can put on any AR

- I'm also having some trouble aiming the tube, but i have had some success. dropped 3 snipers on top of that stupid rock the other day. Its great at short range and its AWESOME when you take out an ATV with it.

- you have to burst fire. Holding down the fire button is a waste. It also looks like there might be some sort of bug with the shooting. There's youtube videos out there where guys empty entire clips into a wall and only see 1/2 the bullet holes (20 bullets, 10 holes). Thats either a bug, a graphical decision or some sort of bizarre design decision to only have 1/2 the rounds fired in full auto count.

- i dont miss prone and crouch needs to be toggle. thats obvious

- time left in game is indicated next to the mini-map in the HUD. under ATK, there will be a number (amount of tickets left until defeat) and under DEF, there willl be an infinity sign. If the attacking team destroys 2 crates, they get some tickets back for the next leg of the game.

COD's controls feel tighter because the whole experience is on rails. You're riding a roller coaster, not controling a person. IMO, its easier to have smoother controls when your player movement defies the laws of phsyics. And again, you have to keep in mind that this is a beta, so there will be issues (the "reverse mouse wheel" option is bugged and i keep switcing to my gadget when i really want my pistol)

And of course, there was dolphin diving. Guys figured out how to go prone in mid air. Some even figured out how to jump back and forth (left to right) while going prone in mid-air on every jump.
I can see that being a problem but removing it altogether seems very lazy.
they also wanted faster game speed. Lots of guys prone=slow boring games (especially on Rush).Imagine how many snipers there'd be if guys could LAY down on top of those rocks. For me, less snipers=better game. On a team of 16, there should be like 3 MAX.edit: i do agree that its a lazy solution. But i think its for the best.

Are the tickets simply time based or does the attacking team lose tickets by dying?

they lose tickets by dying. I dont think its like Bf2 where they get punished with quicker ticket countdown for not attacking (although I'm sure thats probably the case in conquest)

Anyone that knows BF playing this on the 360?

I probably need a BF veteran to walk me through it. I played it and didn't have any issues with the controls (though I'm sure I'm missing a bunch) but don't know what the hell is going on.

i played it on the PS3 beta, but i'll stick to the PC for retail. What do you need to know? You're playing rush game mode..... So if you're the attackers, you need to destroy 3 series of 2 MCOM centers before you run out of respawns. (they're marked as squares with the letters A and B on your map) The defenders have unlimited lives and have to stop you. When the attackers destroy a set of MCOM centers, that area becomes their new respawn area and they move to the next attack site. if they run out of tickets, they lose. when you join a game, you want to join a squad. (preferably a good one that actually does what they're supposed to do). When you die, you can respawn on any one of them (if they're alive) or at your team's base. Any other questions, fire away.

Alright, that helps.1) tickets=respawns?2) When you say join a squad, is that the option at the start? Either quick match or join a squad, right? Assuming join a squad means I'll be joining a party, yes?3) How do you "spot" and enemy on the 360?

1) yeah, tickets=respawns. if you revive someone, it obviously doesnt count as a ticket. Also, the attacking team gets a certain amount of their respawns back once they get through a leg of the attack. (just how much depends on how many you had left when you destroy the 2 crates)2) I think Party and squad are two diferent things. I think parties work like they do in GOW and MW (you join a game together). you join squads once you enter an actual game. (either with your friends or just randoms on your team) You can talk to eachother and respawn on eachother as well. I'm pretty sure you wont be able to talk while you're dead using in game chat. I dont know if the 360 version is gonna allow party chat, which of course, would mean you could talk whenever. If you're in a squad, you also get bonus points when you heal, revive, assist or supply a squad member. you can also "spot" objectives (one of the crates) and you'll get extra points for attacking or defending them. 3) not sure. If i had to guess, i'd say try the select button. i think thats what it was in bad company 1.

So then don't you have to join a squad to play the game? I don't follow you on why I should do that.

no. you dont have to join a squad. but there's really no downside to doing so.

If you go lone wolf, you have to respawn all the way back at your base every time you die. thats a lot of running if you're on the attacking team. When you're in a squad, you can respawn on someone who's already at the front line and you're right back in the game. Plus, you get extra points for doing stuff for your squad (spotting enemies they kill, reviving them, healing them, ect)

In the PC version, you can actually switch squads while you're dead (this wasnt allowed in Bf2). so if you die, and none of your squad is alive at the line, you can join a diferent squad, spawn in and switch right back.

I have a feeling they'll fix that though. they did in Bf2.

I don't get it. :shrug:I get the respawning on teammates thing. When I join a game, aren't I already in a squad so all of that applies anyway, no?I guess I don't get the part about switching squads anyway. That sounds like switching teams to me but I don't think that's what you mean. How many squads are playing on your team?

there are several squads within each team. (up to 8 in the PC version, probably 4-6 on the console)There's a chance that The 360 version simply assigns you to a squad (if you choose the "put me in a squad" option while the map is loading). You might not be able to switch. In the PC version, we get a fully fleshed out squad menu that lets you pick a specific one and see who is in what squad.

Okay, I didn't realize there were multiple squads on each team. Are these squads working independently of each other (with respect to voice chat) or can they all talk?

i dont believe you can talk to other squads. In Bf2, there was a commander who could issue orders and communicate with all the squad leaders, but both those roles (commander and squad leader) are now gone.obviously, all the squads on your team are trying to do the same thing (either attack or defend). But i dont believe that the 360 version will allow you to communicate with other squads)

In the past, with BF2, you press 1 button to talk to your squad, a different button to talk to your entire team. When playing with FBG's, we generally are in a Teamspeak server and disregard in-game voice.

Yes, I could hear you - for instance, I hear you say nice landing when I flipped the heli (I need my joypad to be even somewhat capable of flying, and it still isn't pretty. Plus my axis aren't inverted, which kills me - literally.)I agree about crouch going to a toggle, hopefully they'll do that. I almost guarantee the switching squads while dead will eventually be changed, unless the goal is to get people forward as quickly as possible.

I flew the apache and owned last night. Even with sensitivity all the way up, the controls seem more sluggish than BF2. Also, when flying, I only had a 3rd person view or a cockpit view. We lost the base with the Apache so my gunner and I hopped in the Blackhawk. The Blackhawk actually seemed more nimble than the Apache. I've been in close proximity of a vulcan gun firing and that is an awesome sound even in-game.

BTW, one minor pet peeve. The little helicoptor that I see flying around looks absolutely ridiculous. Just awful.

It's not an Apache or Blackhawk I don't think. It looks like something one of my kids might have drawn.

yeah, the UAV drone sucks. they should have made it look like a predator drone.

I can fly it around, but cant hit anything with the missles. its best for killing vehicles still at the base.

Fun round Shawn, even though our team blew. I got about 15 pins that round. We were stuck before you joined at that first hill, so I jumped in teh quad and went on a road rage spree - got about 7 kills - run down a few, drive back up then turn around. Lots of fun. At the end there in that tank, I had to have loaded you up with driver assists. I was owning the crap out of the other team and spotting up a storm with the MG on the tank. Too bad that doosh took the tank while you were repairing us. :goodposting:

Too bad that doosh took the tank while you were repairing us.
I died. a lot. Still can't get the feel for this game. I almost always lose a "we see each other now draw" gunfight. But that just takes time. It doesn't help that I got so used to MW2.

Fun round Shawn, even though our team blew. I got about 15 pins that round. yeah, if you have a long round, you can rack up ALOT of pins(i think i've had 25+ in a round). You can get like 9K points if you get a gold star (they are weapon specific and you get one every hundred kills or so). Ive also gotten a few 5K badges for certain things. I think they'll dial up the amount of kills it takes to get the pins. otherwise, people will rank up too quickly. Gonna hop on when i get home in about 2 hours. hopefully friends list and stats are working.

The guy on the other team - DVorak seems to be from MW2. He spent that whole round running and melee fighting. He seems to be one of the marathon/sprint/melee builds. It will be interesting to see how that plays out. In BF2, the maps were much more spread out which would make that kind of thing almost impossible. Due to environments that can be blown up, they seem to have opted to go the other way and make it more cramped. I hope there are plenty of open maps in the final release. If they are all cramped like MW2, it will be fail.

Stats are so server dependent. I got on one this AM, no stats. Quit, joined another - stats. :goodposting:

THe map from the PS3 beta was very open. The middle section was a town (see the "Battlefield Moments # 2" video. thats the town.) But the rest of it was open space with cover you had to run between. Very well designed.

Hopefully they add lots of DLC maps after a while. The game isnt shipping with that many and they'll be devoted to the varios game modes (you cant play Conquest on the squad death-match maps and i dont see how you could play it on the Beta map either)

Interesting to see if we see booster packs like before, or if they start going the way everyone else is with microtransactions. :moneybag:Gone are the days of the mod-friendly dev, I guess. :moneybag: rules all now.

Anyone that knows BF playing this on the 360?I probably need a BF veteran to walk me through it.
Badger, I play the demo on 360, so if you need someone who is familiar with what is going on, let me know when and I'll join you for a few games. You can choose not to join a squad, but if you don't, you're a loner. You must respawn at the base respawn. If you join a squad (which you should), you have the additional option of spawning on your squadmates. Also, squads have bonus points they can get for working together.

there was an article the other day on Total bf2. There will be some free DLC.

Honestly, i dont mind paying 5-10 for a booster pack if the maps are good.

I do have a problem if you have to spend $$ for better weapons. Thats not fair.

no. you dont have to join a squad. but there's really no downside to doing so.If you go lone wolf, you have to respawn all the way back at your base every time you die. thats a lot of running if you're on the attacking team. When you're in a squad, you can respawn on someone who's already at the front line and you're right back in the game. Plus, you get extra points for doing stuff for your squad (spotting enemies they kill, reviving them, healing them, ect) In the PC version, you can actually switch squads while you're dead (this wasnt allowed in Bf2). so if you die, and none of your squad is alive at the line, you can join a diferent squad, spawn in and switch right back. I have a feeling they'll fix that though. they did in Bf2.
I don't get it. :coffee:I get the respawning on teammates thing.
The 360 version assigns you to a squad. I haven't seen where I'm able to pick a squad. But if I don't like the squad I'm in, I'll usually leave the squad, then rejoin and it usually puts me in a different squad.
