Vietnam will have to provide a SIGNIFICANT amount of quality content at a decent price to get me on board. I'm very soured on dice after the sham they call "map packs" for bc2

I know it was a pipe dream but I was holding out hope that bf3 would be pc exclusive. Looks like we're gonna be stuck with 32 players and some dumbed down console features again.

I like bc2 but there just aren't enough maps or players (need 64 for epic battles). Plus conquest is nothing but death match

Indeed. BFBC2 has nowhere near the staying power of BF2. Of course, BF2 was fairly revolutionary to its popularity and what it did. It could just be the gameplay I am tiring of, much like RTS grew boring to me after years of WC, WC2 and SC.

I stopped playing BC2 after a couple months because of the lack of new maps. You can't have the same 8 maps forever. By now they should be up to around 18-20 maps. Their $ loss I guess.

I'm pretty sad about the shelf life of BC2. I still like it but did not play for one minute during the month of July, and I didn't miss it.

Agreed with every word of this. Except for the PC exclusive part, for obvious reasons.

Guys, I found a very cool game that I think several of you would enjoy very much.

It's called:

http://www.worldoftanks.com/

It's in a closed beta at the moment, but you can get keys from lots of places by googling World of Tanks closed beta. I actually grabbed 3 keys and have 3 different accounts. I did this because the betas offer use of an exclusive tank, but that tank stinks, so you sell it for some nice starting money.

It's a 15 on 15 open field or urban tank battle. All of the vehicles in the game are from the 1930-1950 era. You start out with crappy tanks and then like an MMO you choose which path you want to go do. It's sort of the same as a FPS in that you can go back and make other choices later, but the time invested ing etting to the really good weapons and vehicles is significant.

When you unlock a vehicle, you then have to progress down it's technology tree (bigger engines, better guns, suspensions, etc. It takes awhile to move to the next vehicle in the lin.

You can play as a Tank (Light -> Medium -> Heavy), a Tank Destroyer, or a Self-Propelled Gun. SPG play is top down like Arty in BF2. it's high risk, high reward.

I have been playing for about a week and gotten about half-way through the Tank Destroy (like a sniper in a FPS) line.

The games range from obnoxously quick to long and strategic.

Let me know if you check it out

I grabbed a beta key probably 4 months ago, but never DL'd due to reviews of crappy gameplay. Hmmmm.

Either they've improved or I have low standards. It's pretty damn addictive.

This article was like a breath of fresh air. I thought I'd share. Link

DICE: Battlefield 3 won't be 'consolized'

All silly back-and-forths about elitism aside, PCs are not consoles, and PC gamers understandably expect their platform to be given the attention necessary to make their games as full and rich as they can be. DICE is totally wit dat, and stuff.

In a recent post on EA's Battlefield forum, Senior Gameplay Designer Alan Kertz assuaged fears of a console-inspired "dumbing down," writing:

"Fundamentally I think it is an error to have different core gameplay on console vs PCs. PC gives a player more input control and if a gun feels good on PC it feels good on console. I won't "dumb it down" by lowering the recoil or changing the damage model or other such silliness."

He later continues, "It's too early to talk BF3 specifics. But it's never too early for me to acknowledge that PC players have a fear that BF3 will be "consolized." PC gaming is alive and well, BFBC2 has proven that and no one at DICE or EA can argue with the numbers. Battlefield 3 needs an extra bit of special attention on the PC. I intend to give it that attention, tradition and our community demand it."

Little is known about BF3, but owners of the Limited Edition version of Medal of Honor received a beta key which should be redeemable sometime within the next 12 months.

they said the exact same thing about Bc2. Other than 32 players vs 24 I don't believe there are any differences. So I'm very skeptical until i see confirmed details.

been trying out BC2 on the PC... so far not enjoying it whatsoever. Every server just a bunch of guys running around as snipers with VSS and Mag Ammo. meh. back to 360.

Was not like that for a while. The Game has died off but will get going again with the new DLC. My usual posse will get back together once the DLC comes out and we will take care of those camping snipers in short order. He he he.Played last night for the first time in months. I was the suck to say the least. Got get my trigger finger back in time for Vietnam which looks great!Looking forward to getting back into this great FPS.

hmm. i don't usually see that at all.VSS with magnum is a nice combo now (most recent patch really improved hit reg), but all the servers i play on have a pretty wide variety of kit loadouts. I don't even see a ton of AN-94 or M-60 users anymore.

I haven't played since the end of June. Just kinda lost it, not sure why. I literally played BF2 for years.

not enough maps. Conquest mode has no strategy involved (the individual flags provide no strategic advantage, so its basically death match).I think the fact that you can't play 64 plays played a part as well. That being said, i still play because I really like FPS games and this is the best one going right now for me. But the long-term replay value isn't close to what Bf2 was.

You're right about the strategy, which is why I loved it in BF2. If you captured the TV station, you were golden. Those maps were just a lot of fun.I think they intentionally hold back on the product so that people will be incented to buy newer versions.

As a matter of fact, if they would import Karkand and a few of the other maps into BC2, I'd play the crap out of it. The maps look really nice in BC2, but the playing feel is just not there.

New patch came out overnight. Mostly minor balance tweaks and a few fixes (although some are saying that they broke new stuff in the process)

They also attempted to fix the spawn/revive invulnerability, but you still are invincible even when you look around. Why they just don't eliminate it entirely I have no idea.

I've switched to iron sights fuLl time in anticipation for vietnam. I've also been doing a lot more gustaving than usual to try and et my platinum star

Hey Joe - I had a dream last night that I came to your house for a LAN party, and you were Indian (Raj type, not Pocohontas). I guess it didn't help that I watched Big Bang Theory before bed, huh?

I'm surprised you didn't dream about black hats and big beards

I know. No Hershbergers to be seen ANYWHERE! Your wife really didn't like me. Indian women are so uppity.

Can't wait for new maps. I recently tried playing Grand Theft Auto IV on PS3. Being a huge fan of past GTA games and not having played another new game in 6 mos, I thought I'd be addicted to something new, esp. a game rated as high as GTA IV.... Nope. I got super bored in the first 30 minutes and plugged BF BC2 once again in for real action. I'm hooked.

I'm not sure I totally understand what this is, but there is a new free to play Battlefield coming that combines BF2 maps and BC2 characters.

In the free-to-play space, Battlefield Free 4 Play is certainly distinct, and it benefits from the finest of heritages. Battlefield 2 provides the foundation – the engine used is a highly tweaked version of that which powered the 2005 original, which should ensure it'll be friendly to the weaker processors of netbooks and laptops – and also provides much of the content.

Maps are refined takes on the classics from Battlefield 2, with the expansive Kubra Dam hosting this first reveal. It's handsome and sturdy enough, and contemporary effects such as a liberal use of film grain help elevate it above the original, as does the importing of assets from the more recent Bad Company games.

i played all of 8 minutes of heroes and it was horrible. Obviously this is different, but i don't really see the point. At this point, 99% of PC users that would want to play BF2 have a system that would run it. (its like 5 years old) and the game costs like $5 now.

Just seems like a waste of resources that could be spent working on BF3 or creating new content for BC2.

I saw word of this a few days ago and signed up for the closed beta. I do wish DiCE would just focus on Battlefield 3 from here on, though (especially if they aren't gonna give BC2 more love). Battlefield Heroes started off pretty decent and seemed to be making a good profit, even from the free to play model, but they broke it when they changed it so that you had to pay to get the better weapons. I wonder if they've learned anything from that. It'll be nice to see more new players brought into playing Battlefield 2 maps, but why not just make Battlefield 2 free for those that don't own it? Or as has been asked here numorous times, port those maps to BC2!

Map pack 7 announced and its actually legitimate. 2 remakes from BC1 and 2 maps from the BC2 single player.

Gotta think this was timed specifically to keep the people clamoring for new content from jumping to COD black ops tomorrow

Oasis and harvest were pretty cool maps. I look forward to playing them on BC2. I wish they'd remake some Bf2 maps. Obviously the big buildings on maps like karkand and sharqi wouldn't be destructible, but they could still do something with them. (Sharqi would be awesome)

Mashtuur could be destructible and also be awesome. I still love me some Wake. Make a few more buildings but let you blow them up. :hifive:

Cool. I have been out of the BC2 loop. Have they release any new maps besides these four announced one's, or the previous 6 map packs been making all maps work for all game types like 1/2/3 were doing?

They could just port Wake over from Battlefield 1943 and that'd be fine, although it's got planes and no choppers.

Saw you playing Black Ops this weekend. How is it compared to MW2 and CoD4? Nevermind, I should be reading the Black Ops thread.

Just reacquired BC2 and picked up Onslaught mode. Anyone still play this on 360? My gamertag is "M a d s h o t". After playing a few shooters since the peak of this game, I have come to realize the quality that this game posses. Also, glad to see a update was release a few months back and another is coming out soon with 4 brand new maps for free and 4 more maps in the Vietnam expansion that will cost money.

I jumped in a server that TLEF was in earlier today for 2 rounds. I don't even know if he saw me in his squad.

Anxious to see the new maps, and would love to see Onslaught for PC. Even more, I would love to see them add a LAN option for PC. I can guarantee they add LAN capability, they sell a crapload of new copies. I know I would probably buy 6 copies for my office to play with during my LAN events I have maybe once or twice a year.

Onslaught is like Bad Company WaW Zombie mode while advancing. Its fun with randoms, could be great with friends.Edit: Got a question about chopper controls. What does Yaw do?2nd Edit: OMG, I can fly the choppers. Before I would last maybe 5-15 seconds and horrible die into a hillside whenever I decide to turn. After 10 tries with no luck I switched the stick layout from default/default to bad company 1/legacy. Now ascend/descend is done with the left stick and look up/down and roll is with the right stick. I did a good 6 laps around the map before I got shot down on my first try. :fistpump:

been playing quite a bit lately because I lost interest in NCAA football 11. (and don't like FIFA this year).

I still think this is a great game and I'm really looking forward to the maps. My complaints are mostly unchanged. My biggest issue is with the spawning mechanic.

- I absolutely hate how enemies can spawn on a guy who is under fire. Its so frustrating when I put a guy down with the end of my clip only to see a squad mate spawn in and finish me off. IMO, you should have to go 5 seconds without taking damage before a teammate can spawn on you.

- If they aren't going to do that, they should re-institute the squad leader mechanic from Bf2/2142. The ability to spawn on any squad mate (or even squad hop while you are dead so you can spawn on any person on your team) makes it too difficult to defend a flag and hold ground. Other than the size/layout of the maps, this is the biggest contributing factor to the "musical flags" that conquest mode has become.

- and finally, they absolutely MUST get rid of ALL invulnerability that players get when they either spawn or are revived (unless you spawn at your main, uncapable base). It makes no sense to reward players for diving into a fire fight to revive someone that has no business being revived. (**Cough** CORP **Cough**) It also makes no sense to reward the revivee for either taking his eyes off the screen or taking advantage of this unfair mechanic. (I've actually started doing this purposely, not moving when I'm revived so that the guy shooting me empties his clip).

I also wish they would go back to the BF2 standard of not counting a death until you actually re-spawn (as opposed to now, when you get credit for a death even if someone revives you). Of course, that's just me being a K/D ratio whore.

O yeah, this is TLEF by the way. on a one week time out due to calling my genitals Coach Vermeil's first name.

edit: and yeah, i saw you MC. That team were were on was god awful. I played on that server quite a bit this afternoon and my team was always disgracefully bad. The other team wasn't good either (most of my rounds were 2/1 K/D, usually 3/1) but my teammates just couldn't do anything.

I really wish I knew what this spawn invulnerability thing is. I cannot tell you how many times I spawn in and am dead before I even move the #######g mouse. Ditto with revived.
