FYI - RonSwanson06 = Newt Gingritch here (I think that's what he said, was on a server with him briefly.) Speaking of which, I tried Air Superiority...yah, 0-10 later, I quit. Ugh, so bad at flying.
I'm the other fat sack of ####, lol.

Air superiority is horrible. I finally got my 3 ribbons for the UCAV. Never again.

ETA: I spent 10 hours getting the 3 ribbons, it murdered my KD ratio.

Oh, and what is the voice chat server info you guys are using? I'm assuming the original post info is outdated with a last update time of 2011.
Doh...sorry, I forgot to come post and then I wasn't positive. I might try the map that is all helis, but planning to stay outta the jet maps. I've heard you can get the 3 ribbons in regular servers as well, just harder to get a jet or heli.

It is Mumble

I forgot how much I love using C4 on vehicles until last night :lmao:
They have really handicapped tank drivers by taking away proximity scan (well it's available, but only as a gunner). If you are rolling solo in a tank, someone can literally walk up behind you and blow you up and you never know they are there until you're looking at the kill screen.

This is why I like to roll 3rd person in the vehicles if I am not actively engaged with another tank. You get a much broader field of vision. I backed over some recon fool trying to C4 me last night on Dawnbreaker.

good tip...will have to try to remember that

I roll 3rd person in most other vehicles (except LAV, but will have to do it in that one also, for the same reason) just always liked first person in the heavy armor. But it seems they nerfed the tank shells as well (when shooting at infantry on foot), so your approach makes good sense

I like 1st person too. But in the vehicles your field of vision is so narrow. Especially in armored vehicles. I like to use 3rd person when I am driving around and also when capturing points. It seems for BF4 that they narrowed the field of view in 3rd person. You cant see as far around the vehicle. The angle is in much tighter to the vehicle. But its still effective.

Armor Piercing tank shells are terrible against infantry. Always have been. They have virtually no splash damage. You have to hit the infantry with it to kill them. I dont know if they have anti-personnel shells for the tanks like they did in BF3. Havent unlocked much with the tanks.

they do have the "canister shells" from BF3 and a couple other new ones, but they seemed pretty ineffective to me against infantry unless, like you said, you hit them with it

BTW the Staff Shell on a tank equipped with HE is pretty much OP in tank combat. Fire HE, switch to staff and fire one, then back to HE = dead tank 99% of the time in a couple of seconds.

For those hoping for a "platoon" feature (from a Dice guy)

If you’ve been playing the Battlefield 4 Beta, you might be wondering: “Where are the Platoons from Battlefield 3?” We are looking at introducing Platoons for Battlefield 4 in early 2014. We know this is a very popular feature for Battlefield players that have been used by thousands of fans, and as such we are preparing to bring it back into Battlefield 4. As we do this, we’re also very eager to hear what new functions you would like to see. Battlelog has always been an organic service that constantly changes and grows together with you, the community – so please; share your thoughts on the BF4 forums! We’ll be able to share more of our plans for the upcoming Battlefield 4 Platoons feature later.
The same poster later just dodged the question as to why it wasn't in there from the beginning, just saying again that it was coming in early 2014.

supposedly the netcode was tweaked to lower the amount of kill trades. Apparently they were giving high-ping players too much of a window to shoot back even though the server was already recognizing them as dead (since the lower ping player saw and killed them).

They claim they fixed the sound loop crashes as well, so maybe I'll actually be able to get through a round on seige of shanghai.

Added a huge graphical issue for those using SLI/Crossfire setup. Also, half the things it said it fixed, I've had happen since. Trade kills more often now than before. Already been stuck on the revive screen, which was also in the patch notes.

The whole graphical travishamockery is ridiculous. I don't know if any of you have seen it in person, but appalling is too kind a word to describe how they murdered how it was to now.

Apparently disabling one of your video cards will fix the problem. Not ideal, but it's a temporary solution.

It's been a bad launch for sure, but the game is still fun

Utter failure of a rollout. Not sure when I'll be back on.
Don't get me wrong. I still love the game and I've had much fewer crashes than before. But I still get the feeling that I'm playing Battlefield 3.5 beta than Battlefield 4.
From a console(X360) standpoint I would call it Battlefield 2.5. Its graphics are much worse than BF3 and the environments/shadows/lighting suck compared to BC2.

Well at least the patch fixed the graphics issue. Beyond that I really haven't seen big bugs for the pc.

Through all my hours of playing this game (or rather, this series of games) I feel like I've come to understand it pretty well. I get why some people just choose to snipe all day and why others spend thousands of hours in a jet. But I will never ever understand how someone can enjoy themselves when their entire "strategy" is just going to a corner, laying down prone, staring at a 5 inch x 5 inch window and just waiting for someone to come into view...

A) How is that fun?

B) Isn't the point of a game (or at least one of the points) to challenge yourself? How is that mentally stimulating?

The only way this makes sense to me is if the person has only 1 hand and is physically incapable of moving and firing at the same time.

Xbox one on the way. I'll probably be playing a bunch with my brothers but anyone who wants to add me,feel free.

Gamer tag is still tlef316

I'm very interested to see just how bad I'm going to be on console. I'd probably sign for a 1.0 k/d right now. It's going to be ugly. I'll definitely be adopting a much more conservative play style

My son and I were able to play last night for the first time. His BF4 name is airsoftjedi if you see him in our servers.

I played a lot of BF4 the last 2 days, more with my son. I am not too shabby once I get in the flow. I am not TLEF quality, but I am top 3-4 each round for my team. Definitely played it more than BF3 so far.

Got my ACE 52 CQB unlocked and most attachments that I would like and it is a beast, plays very well into my play style with hip shots. Very happy with it. Cannot imagine the G36 being better. Stat wise, it is not.

How often do you switch weapons? I mean, do you switch every time you get an unlock? I tend to stick with the one assault rifle that I feel most comfortable with - i'm not much into switching too often and getting every unlock/progression for every weapon out there.

I am still having a whale of a time choosing my "favorite" weapons. Its probably a combination of the fact that there is no OP weapon this time around (like the M16 in bf3) and the fact that I get bored easily.

At this point, I know that the SRR61 is my favorite sniper rifle (not the highest bullet speed, but it has the smallest amount of drop) and then P226 is my favorite pistol (because of the big magazine).

If its a bigger map where I know I'll be mostly shooting from longer ranges, my assault guy is the SAR21. If I'm playing Engy, I kinda like the AK5C. I also go to that gun if the other team is really good and I know they're communicating. Its really accurate and I can throw a silencer on it and stay off the map. The lower ROF limits the upside, but its my favorite gun for "tough" servers where I'm having problems staying alive \\

MTAR is my go-to gun for noob stomping on smaller maps. If the server is weak, I can just hip fire that thing like crazy and rack up a ton of kills. However, good players with more accurate weapons will toast me if they're smart enough to stay out of close range.

All the ACE weapons are good all-around but I haven't played with them much lately. The carbine versions are probably good bets if you just want to use 1 versatile weapon all the time with all classes.

The ACW-R can be really good at times (mostly at mid-range) but it kicks like a mule if you don't stay in control.

Nope, I have rocked the AK5C exclusively until this point. I see using the ACE 52 CQB for near everything, or at least Assault and Engy, for the time being. It is all about the attachments. I have it all unlocked for the AK 5c, and am underway for the 52. The SCAR-H is another I really like.

I just find a gun I like and stick with it. Once you get access to the different attachments for a gun, then you can make a good assessment. So far, I like the MTAR-21 for Carbine, CZ805 is beast for AR, MG4 I prefer over M249 for LMG. Those are the three weapons I use based on the situation. Sometimes, I run MP7 in close quarters.

:goodposting:

I'm really bad at this game (and FPSs in general), but it's way fun to be in the action and actually, you know, do something as opposed to sitting a mile from the objectives picking off random stragglers.

Just saw my first 100% for sure cheater/glitcher.

Dude was moving around at at least 5 X normal speed (basically making him impossible to hit) even though he appeared to be in the crouched position. I was trying to snipe him from across the map (silk road) and he was covering hundreds of yards in like 5 seconds.

I probably play more different weapons than I should, I do better when I run the same gun and get to know how it works. But I get bored and like to tinker with my setup.

GatorShawn turned me on to the MG4 today, as someone who plays a fair amount of Support and was rocking the M249, I had my best round of OpLocker with the MG4 with no attachments today (thanks to GS keeping me alive when I'd wade out into the midst of the firefight).

I like the L96A1 for sniper, always liked the 8x scope on it even in BF3 (was it in BC2 and maybe BF2 as well? Seems like it).

For Engy I have been running Carbines since I released them, I really need to go back and unlock some of the PDWs, I have the MX4 and PP-2000 unlocked (and a few from assignments) and that's it. I am currently using the ACE 52 CQB and the AK5C is still a really good gun that I have all the unlocks for.

For Assault I've been playing with the L85A2, and I am about done "testing" it out. It recoils like crazy and while you can tone that down a bit with attachments, I think I'm just about done with it anyways. I like the AK12 (the starter Assault gun) but been planning to play with either the M416 or the SAR21.

As for pistols, I was just using the P226, but recently was reading about the MP443 and it has basically the same specs but 3 more bullets (and slightly less horizontal movement according to the numbers) and so I've been working on unlocking the attachments for that. The FN57 actually gives you 20 bullets, but the damage drops by 1/6th compared to the 443/226. Definitely planning to test out the Compact 45 once I unlock it.

2 revelations from last night's gaming session.

1. TLEF is pretty much Han Solo at this game, gunning down n00bs like Stormtroopers.

2. I will hereby base my game decisions on WWTD - What Would TLEF Do. See #1.

1) I fully admit that I play like an absolute lunatic. I see red triangles on the mini-map, I run in that direction. I'm pretty sure this statement came from me basically doing this during our round on Op. Locker last night.

2) This is only a good idea if you feel like staring at the spawn screen a lot, usually because you caught caught running blindly around a corner during a totally unnecessary reload.

But yes, the influx of Christmas noobs has led to some very run rounds the last couple of days. The bad news is that on Monday, when my Xbox one comes in the mail, I will be very much on the other side of things. Its going to be ugly.

I'll probably be in tonight to play some. I want to break in the new vidia card.

Maelstrom and I were in a Locker server where our team basically blew, but then the other team was set up to snipe and shoot right into our spawn. Sucked. Big time.

You guys should have joined my server. Pretty much dominated the other team in every match and even a few MVPs for myself in the process.

Who here is playing on PC? Would love to team up with players from here.
I'm on PC.
Fairly regular players include TLEF, GatorShawn, myself, MaxThreshold, EyeDoc and Slax. Cooleyo was playing for a bit, but I think he said he wasn't playing anymore. Gamerboy and PorkJohnson play occasionally as well. Apologies to any of the regulars I missed.

Join us on Mumble if you get in: the IP address is: 192.81.218.183:64738, just create a username and register to the server once you get in

Didn't see you as playing. Do you have your privacy set to not show others you are playing? I would have joined you at the outset.

No, those shouldn't be set. I was in the mumble too. I saw you on, but I don't think Maelstrom was on yet. He may have joined a little after I left.

Getting solid 55-70 FPS on the new GTX 770 on Ultra. At worst, it dropped to 40-something.

Did anyone else have their load outs reset recently? A couple of days ago I was playing, and it crashed. Once I got it back up again, everything was reset to default.

I've had that happen a few times. Every time I crash, I worry if I have to reset everything (and I mean keybinds too).

All loadouts or just specific guns? The ones I unlocked for China Rising early (L96, Mtar, L85) all reset on a regular basis, sometimes mid-round. Nothing like spawning with a sniper rifle to kill a pesky sniper only to realize you have iron sights and no other attachments....
