I figured there would be a few of you on tonight. Nope - just Corp and I. I am now CPO Gold - next stop, Warrant Officer.

I played a few rounds from like 9-10PM EST. All by my lonesome.

The roofers working on my neighbor's house burned through my cable with a blow torch while I was playing yesterday afternoon. Thanks morons! No gaming for me until it's fixed. I'll have to survive by stealing wifi.

Well, actually, yes. It's worse. Throughput and latency are two different things. I have had lower pings and what seems like worse packet loss since the upgrade.

Couple interesting notes:

-Sentry guns can't acquire targets through smoke from smoke grenades - may be useful for Titan attacks

-Says either Engineer Rocket launchers can be used in addition to Pilum for Titan gun and still only 3 shots

-Maybe you guys all knew this, but try using regular arrow keys for roll (L/R) and Tilt (U/D) when flying along with WASD instead of mouse

-Close to a 1 shot kill for Walkers is the knee joint from the front (why some leg shots are instantly fatal and others aren't)

-Supply crates are equal opportunity for either side, no matter who dropped them (never thought about it, but makes sense)

The guide has a lot of stuff I already knew, but I do come across things here and there that are interesting. It also has all of the maps (not the news ones, it was published last year) and award/badge/ribbon requirements. And it was on clearance due to my local CompUSA closing.

Downloading Northern Strike. But I am not happy about it.

Played NS for about an hour today.

The maps are quite cool. One is at night. One is a city map with titans. You breathe frosty breath on all the maps because it's very cold. The new skins on the vehicles is snow camoflauge and very cool. The hachimoto is a blast, but you are very susceptible to rifle fire. Driver and Gunner are highly exposed. But the gunner has a rapid fire grenade launcher + a right click TV missile. Driver has forward firing walker type guns. Did not get in a goliath yet, but I did engage one with Pilum. He won. You get a point for taking out the auto-repair units on the goliath so maybe the zeller can do that?

By the way, awesome info Maelstrom about the walker knee. It worked to perfection this morning. I'll never sit still in a walker again.

Can you wait until April? NVidia is unleashing its 8600 Ultra, which will retail around $180 but perform about on par with the 8800 GTS. If you want to build your own, you can have an absolute monster of a machine for $1500.

Thanks! I did not know that about the new card....may have to wait then! Although hearing you guys talk about this game has me chomping at the bit....used to play Unreal Tournament a few years ago, but nothing since. As for building my own....I am moderately tech savy, but not confident enough....plus a brand name will please the wife which is impt as the machine is more for video editing, not gaming....

The problem with getting a Dell or such is two-fold - 1) you will have to replace that power supply right off the bat, and might want to look into a new CPU Heatsink fan as well. Dell/other power sources blow and if you want to game, you will have to upgrade that. Dell heatsink/fans are proprietary crap, too. 2) the motherboards suck and have locked BIOS, so you will not be able to do any tweaking or overclocking.That said, you will get a lot of bang for the buck given they practically give away systems with their LCD's.

I would find your base model and monitor now, then we can add the new PSU and video card later.

I just tried configuring a Dell special with their 20" monitor and came up with $1100, but that is not including buying that 2 GB of RAM for $140, has no video card, only the E6300 processor and the crappy Dell power supply.

You would be SOOOOO much better off building your own here.

Just played a quick round of assault lines. Spawned in the goliath. Very cool. grenade gunners are pretty devastating but the guns have very little arc so you can't really shoot over things. You have about a 150 degree field of fire depending on which side you are on. The machine guys are more like 270 degrees. The machine guns don't run out of ammo but the GL turrets do. Quickly too. Your commander has to really be keeping an eye on the goliath. It repairs itself at about 2 points per second. Railgun and Pilum hits take about 20 pts off. So doing the math there is would take 6 pilum + at + railgun (of some combination of RDX) shots within a 20 second period to take it down. Far from difficult if you work as a team.

The coolest thing was, When I re-spawned, I ran in an infantry screen around the goliath. You can run faster than it moves, so you can provide 360 degree infantry support on the goliath. Clans that communicate will RUN THROUGH assault lines. The infantry screen is cool because guys are focused on the goliath, and understandably so. You can clear out the bevy of Engy threats in the path of the goliath.

A full goliath (5 people) with commander's attention and a two or three man infantry screen are a devastating combination.

FYI the XIIIth server was updated to NS this morning. I played my first round there.

It's slow and it sounds like real armor moving. It's cool. Holds 5 people. Driver 2 grenadiers, 2 machine gunners.

No. Goliath is ONLY in Assault Lines mode. Those maps have a natural linear progression like Berlin. You can't attack their back base and win unless you hold all of the other flags (I think). You'll see. It's a blast.

OK, if anyone is into griefing, I have a mission for you. I was on the =I.D.S.= servers today and got banned by a #### licker named Killer_4Hire of the =I.D.S.= clan. I am gonna create a new soldier and go back in and see if I can cause him so problems, but anyone else please do.

FWIW - I got banned because I pVVn3d him and 2 clanmates at a flag they were trying to defend. I killed them, capped the flag, then got kicked and banned.

I tried multiple times before I got it ordered. What worked for me was start up EA link and then log out (but keep EA link open). Click on the link to preorder and download Northern Strike while logged out. Clicking on the Preload link will bring up the log in screen to log on and download. Its stupid but thats what worked for me

I am on a roll today fellas. I got banned from another server for abusing the commander with wit and one word. He was sitting in Remagen with a WALKER just sitting there. I told him to get out - he said no, that that he was defending the base. Well, I broadcast what he was doing to our team and they jumped on him and told him to resign, etc.

So he just sits there and there is no Mutiny option. Next thing you know, that base is captured.

I type in "Good thing you were there to defend that flag, dip####."

And so I got banned after he had been spamming the F word at me and our team.
