***OFFICIAL*** FFA Heavy Music Thread - No banal, anodyne "Dad Rock" BS here.. (1 Viewer)

Ya know before creed hit the big time....a buddy of mine who would travel down to atlanta and work in the bars on weekends brought home their first disc...we played the #### out of it...then they hit the big time.....i probanly lost all board metal cred....but yes i listened to creed before it was cool....and before it was cool to say they,suck.........lol
I still like "Bullets."

Just came across this. New band Ultraphonix with Corey Glover (ex-Living Colour) and George Lynch.

Walk Run Crawl

Sounds pretty good. Lynch still shreds at age 63.
I always thought dokken could play and wasnt like other hair metal bands...they had talent and don could sing...too ugly to be a poison type band....tesla falls into this category as well

Totally agree. Tesla in particular - they always got lumped into the hair metal genre, but really were a blues based band. And a talented one at that - notably Frankie Hannon.

"Dance Macabre" - Ghost

ok, i'm a huge Ghost fan, so this is pure homerism. and i'll be the first to admit, this is not metal - at least by @Evilgrin 72 standards in this thread (correct me if i'm wrong). but ####### hell, the tone on that guitar solo stirs something in my cockles...and sub cockle area. i can just imagine this song as the opener, or closer, of a stadium tour and the crowd just losing their collective ####.

this is catchy as hell ... at least as much as "Rats" - and i'll be annoying the hell out of my wife for the entirety of the weekend with it.

drink well friends! have a great weekend. :banned:

Big Ghost fan myself. Definitely metal, though certainly on the far end of the heaviness scale.

Love that album and that song.
It is just an awesome album.  We Die Young is my favorite AIC song and one of my favorite songs period.  Many a workout kick off with that song.

I have to agree with the other poster that stated Cantrell is hugely underrated.  He is not flashy but his sound and riffs are unmistakable and top-notch.

Stone from the Dinosaurs album by AIC was in heavy rotation for me for a very long time.I 3rd the comment about Cantrell as well, always loved his riffs and his tone is one I have always loved.

Ghost just played a small venue here in town last night. Sadly I missed it but reviews from buddies have been stellar.

Their live show makes converts. I had a buddy at the Voodoo Festival who is into Irish folk music and indie rock that had no interest in Ghost. I begged him to go see them despite his protests.

He came back to work Monday and by noon had bought tickets to see them at House of Blues in Orlando. He's been counting down the days to the next album release.

I thought about going to Ghost when they were in town this past Friday, but ultimately did not. I am sure I will regret it as I get more into them.

I'm seeing Ghost and 5FDP this weekend.  Really looking forward to Ghost.  I know 5FPD will play 95% American Capitalist and newer and I'm not so happy about that.  I still like some of their older stuff, but the last few albums have all been generic crap. Too much success from American Capitalist and now just feeding into the crossover sales? I don't know, but to me there is a big difference from The Way of the Fist and War is the Answer to what they're putting out now.
