It's a wonder that Pete Rose's actions were so "tarnishing" for baseball. Yet, Ty Cobb would carry a gun with him at all times in case if anyone approached him and used to beat up blacks for fun. Yet, he goes into the Hall ON THE FIRST FREAKING YEAR OF THE HALL ITSELF!!!!You tell me what's worse:A. A guy who gambles on baseball while managing a baseball teamorB. A guy who beats up black people for fun.Try having Cobb play baseball in today's age.

In terms of the game of baseball, then Rose's far more minor crimes are more damaging. While Cobb was far worse a person, Rose's actions had direct effects on games, even if minor - and at the LEAST the appearance of impropriety stains every game he touched (as a gambling manager). It is a shame Pete did that... and if I HAD to choose to befriend Pete Rose or Cobb, its Pete. I dont think Pete looked to do harm to anyone (except himself, sadly). Cobb was scum. But this is just talking inside the lines.

Possibly. I think some might have been turned off by his lack of a really incredible individual season. Still, amazing numbers regardless. Probably doesn't get the credit he deserves.
