Stephen Christmas (1947-1993) was a 5 year old boy when he became the first patient described to have Christmas disease (or Haemophilia B) in 1952 by a group of British doctors.

Steven was born to a British family in Canada, and was investigated for his severe bleeding disorder in Oxford, where it was discovered that he was not deficient in Factor VIII, which is normally decreased in classic haemophilia, but a different protein, which received the name Christmas factor in his honour (and later Factor IX).
Stephen was dependant on blood and plasma transfusions, and was infected with HIV in the period during which blood was not routinely screened for this virus. He campaigned for transfusion safety ever since getting infected, but developed AIDS, of which he died in 1993.

Honestly, I'm having trouble with this pick. Are we drafting guys to win a vote? Or to win the sim? I guarantee who ever wins the vote WILL NOT win the sim. Are guys drafting to win the sim or the vote? And the "third best season" thing is a HUGE factor in terms of the sim. Some guys had one or two monster years followed by 10 decent ones. I'm torn.Pick upcoming....

I'll start with a Ty Cobb quote:

(There were 73 home runs hit there in 1958 and 173 in Braves road games), putting up some increadible top line numbers for any era or season. In 1959 he hit 46 HR, batted .306, SLG .593, and had 119 RBI (see stats). He finished in the top 5 in the league in HRs for 9 straight years while drawing an amazing number of walks for the era. Again playing in a pitchers park. More importantly for this team, he was a fly ball hitter. He'll be playing half his games in Tiger stadium, a notorious fly-ball hitters park. I'm just drooling over the numbers he'll put up in the sim.

1 or 2 doesn't equal 3...not many guys have 3 all-time great seasons and not a great career....trust me, I ran the numbers.edited to add plenty have one, a few have 2...if you had 3 that make you draftable in this you had a great career in every case I looked at.

First post. I assume all the rules will be followed. Sim is in the rules. If you honestly found a guy whose third best season jumps him up dramatically in value I'll be flat out shocked...edited to add if you use just the BEST season yes....some guys have a 3rd season that might jump them up a little higher than their career....nothing drastic I could find though...definately not enough to change where I'd draft anybody.

I don't know either. I've looked at the salaries myself. Most the "good" players seemed to have pretty high ones and the "not so good" players had lower ones. I've never played the sim.I've been waiting all day. What are you saying? It's not like we're going to make more than 3 or four picks the rest of the night...do the salaries = results? I don't know how that site works. And relax.
I'm trying to get the best players based on my opinions...hopefully the vote and/or sim recognize that...if they don't, I dunno. I still like my basketball team. Would rather draft the team that I think would be best than to try to tailor it to something....if you need better answers I'd pm Cappy. I'm pretty sure he has experience w/ the sim if it's that important to you. Maybe he could give you more detail.

I see several factors at play here. Players could be extraordinarily consistent, but not overly flashy (Hank Aaron, Frank Robinson, etc.). Then you have the guys who put up mad numbers, but for limited stretches (Koufax). Then you've got the guys that were extraordinary for their era/position (Wagner). It's all pretty impossible to weight these all properly.I guess I'm going for something of a balance here. I want to pick guys that had a long stretch of productivity (which I think should be rewarded), but the sim sort of doesn't really take that into account. I'm thinking modern era guys like Joey Belle (that's just for you larry) would do exceptionally well in a sim, but probably don't have HOF numbers. It's a tough call.
