Aren't you talking about opening up to any player any season in the 2nd one?

Here's what I'm saying:Let's draft a team and do a sim league on WIS. Draft whoever you want. There is no salary cap. We're all starting on equal ground. May the best man win.

Sounds simple, doesn't it? If guys want to sim fish? Great. If guys want to draft all first basemen and play them where ever they want? Great. If guys want to draft Walter Johnson and have him be their closer? Great. If guys want to draft a team made of of solely hall-of-famers? Great. If someone wants to draft only DH's and play them all over the diamond? Great. You want to draft a dead-ball era pitcher and start him everyother day? Great. Let's see who can win the sim using the strategy they want to. That would be fun.

If you want to do a draft based on restrictive rules and snooty perceptions, that's fine. I just don't think that's at all intersting or necessary.

JM -I understand exactly what you're saying, it just doesn't sound as exciting to me as everyone drafting who they think are the greatest players of all time. That being said, I'll do whatever the group wants to do.

You're right. The reason I'd prefer to lay ground rules is that some nut-bag will draft solely on WIS.com stats, and that annoys me because anyone can sit there and sift through all of the WIS salaries. You know my preference and you also know that I'll go with either option (I'll just whine if I don't get my way ). So be it.

Why can't you sift through salaries? Are you just going to draft off the top of your head? What list will you be using? You talking about only allowing players that qualify using some predetermined career statistical benchmarks, no? You can sift through that, but you can't glance at a single page of salaries? I just don't know what you're fearing here.

I haven't made a list yet, but if we were to do "all time" I would build the majority of the list off of the top of my head by position. I would also likely refer to baseball-reference.com's history of each team by position to see if I've overlooked any names that I'd like to add to my lists. There's no fear. Its just a little less exciting to me if the teams all end up with a bunch of no-names who just happen to do well in your sim, John.

So if others don't subscribe to your method of choosing players for their team it'll be less exciting for you? If you want to choose guys a certain way, why do you care if another team has "a bunch of no-names who happen to do weel in the sim"? Why would that matter to you? This is what you guys aren't clarifying. Also, what you described is exactly what we just did for this draft. Didn't work.

This is what you guys aren't clarifying. Also, what you described is exactly what we just did for this draft. Didn't work.

For the most part, your draft went fine except for the fact that the pre 1920 pitchers seem to be overly successful, LB's draft and the 3rd year issue. Doug's proposal seemed to help eliminate those things, which in my mind would make #2 a better "alltime" draft.However, you are no longer interested in an all-time draft, you want a "who can find the best single year stats for some guy that pitched in 1892" draft. That's fine too, its just less intriguing to me because I won't know all of the players.

I wish I could come up with a great analogy for you, but that's your thing, not mine.

As far as I know, the only "thing" I have is hijacking.

the usage of a player who pitched for 600 innings is minimized in our league because we have unlimited salaries... therefore thier salaries are basically useless...if we all have 3 deadballers, they lose thier value....

Here's where we disagree. I think adding rules can only hurt the sim and allow certain players to gain advantages. When you have no rules, NOBODY can gain an advantage. We're all in the same boat/on the same page from pick one until game 162. And to your claim that I'm only interested in a draft where it's about "who can find the best single year stats for some guy that pitched in 1892", well that's just wrong. If you want to cut-off pitchers pre-1900, that's fine. I have no problem with that. But I don't see how that helps the league. You're just penalizing guys based on their knowledge or desire to search out a specific player that may or may not help them.

If we're doing this draft for a sim league based on the single season of a player, why are we trying to set rules that are based on the entire career of that player? I simply don't see the logic in that. We've been through this entire argument before. It start around page 130-140 of this thread.

When it was said Nipsey couldn't pitch him every third day, he DID go to the 4 man rotation. He pitched in relief a few times, I have no idea why. Nipsey did move him up ONE DAY so he could pitch the final game of the year and maybe steal the Cy Young from that cheater Larry Boy (the guy who won't be in the next league).
