Not long. Testing usually starts the last week of February, and the first race is usually rhe first weekend in March (since the schedule went to eleventybillion races).Fun starting grid for the race tomorrow, I think. Hopefully Ferrari has long pace again.
How long is the off-season for F1?

The normal version should be there too, you just need to dig through the menu a bit.Stupid YouTubeTV recorded the "kids" version of the Abu Dhabi GP this morning on ESPNU instead of the normal race on ESPN.![]()

Not a big deal, found it on ESPN+ and was able to watch it, just kind of annoying.weird, YouTubeTV recorded it on both channels (ESPNU and ESPN) for me.The normal version should be there too, you just need to dig through the menu a bit.Stupid YouTubeTV recorded the "kids" version of the Abu Dhabi GP this morning on ESPNU instead of the normal race on ESPN.![]()

Breaking news out of Haas. Team principal and Netflix star Guenther Steiner and technical director Simone Resta are both out.
It seems that unless they get serious about investing resources into the team, that kind of move is shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.Breaking news out of Haas. Team principal and Netflix star Guenther Steiner and technical director Simone Resta are both out.
Please SkySports, put Guenther on the race broadcast team.Breaking news out of Haas. Team principal and Netflix star Guenther Steiner and technical director Simone Resta are both out.
I wonder if Andretti will be pushed in the direction of buying Haas, instead of introducing an 11th team to the grid.

Gene Haas has always denied his team is up for sale. I don't think this front office shakeup changes that. Steiner is the face of the organization but Resta is the bigger loss. He was a highly respected engineer when he was with Ferrari and is a key liaison to Maranello who provides much of the technology to Haas.
Haas F1's business model of contracting manufacturing out makes it the least desirable acquisition target for Andretti. Their most valuable asset is the entry itself. Maybe this is good for Andretti and his backers because they won't have to pay for a redundant factory but it would also presumably lower the asking price.
So what is this Formula E business again @Eephus ?

Pre-season news wrap
Leclerc signs a multi-year extension with Ferrari. Sainz' contract expires at the end of this season.

Lame.Formula 1 formally rejected the bid from Andretti/Cadillac to join the grid in 2025 or 2026. In their statement, they left some possibilities open for 2028 if GM becomes a power unit OEM but nothing definitive.
The rejection shouldn't be surprising to anyone who's been listening to the existing teams for the past two years but it's still disappointing and probably will be proven to be short-sighted.
I wonder if Mercedes and Ferrari will swap drivers - this season. The 2023 season was devoid of drama in pretty much every respect, so I welcome the coming chaos. Gonna be a spectacular ####show. Albon to Mercedes seems like the obvious next domino, but who knows.
The early scuttlebutt was that Mercedes really liked their changes for 2024, but apparently the vibes weren't good enough for Hamilton.

It would probably suit all parties to make the cut now - Mercedes can take Sainz before deciding on a longer-term replacement for Hamilton.
Otherwise, I think Mercedes will be designing the W15 to suit Russells likes/demands - and that leaves Lewis in a lame-duck season with a car he probably won't like. More drama than the team needs.
Ferrari already get a bigger chunk of the pie, so they can fork over some cash and Sainz to get Hamilton released now.
I don't see Albon as a big enough name for Mercedes.![]()
I am assuming they will go all out for Norris. He would be the most marketable driver, imo. And, I would not be shocked if his new extension did not include an out clause for certain teams. Also I'm just not sure who else they'd get.
I just ordered a Tan Ferrari at lunch to celebrateStunner.
Hamilton to Ferrari in 2025

Its a little bit of both - imo.So is Lewis still a viable driver and Mercedes has just lost a step the last 2-3 years? This just feels like the Knicks bringing in Lebron and giving him the largest contract ever tomorrow.
Or is this just a marketing deal, bring in the fans, sell the merch type deal?
Keep in mind I'm new here.
Wow. That feels a little like Beckham signing that MLS contract. Its a little bit of both - imo.So is Lewis still a viable driver and Mercedes has just lost a step the last 2-3 years? This just feels like the Knicks bringing in Lebron and giving him the largest contract ever tomorrow.

Lewis is still a top driver, and Mercedes has lost ground under these new regulations. But, it's also about money. Lewis reportedly going to get $100M/year - which I think is almost double what Mercedes were paying.
Oh, and Ferrari market cap went up yesterday by $10B - partially on this news - so it seems like a good financial deal for everyone.
Thats the better comparison. I didn't meant to compare Ferrari to the Knicks. That was low.Wow. That was the main point of the comparison. Hamilton isn't in his prime anymore even if he's still great. I wouldn't be surprised if he's the second best Ferrari driver next year.Wow. There are some similarities around the marketing considerations but in terms of his on-track skills Hamilton is closer to Real Madrid Beckham than LA Beckham.
Ferrari is still the most important team in the sport with an unbroken lineage that goes back to its origins. They were winning championships long before the Stewart begat Mercedes and BAR begat Red Bull. It'll mean a little more if Lewis can win his eighth title in a red car.

So now there are rumblings that Red Bull offered Albon a 3-year contract starting in 2025.
F1 went from a boring 2024 silly season to an insane one starting like 8 months early
