Whats up with Christian Horner now? He better not be stepping out on Ginger Spice.

Think we'll get an extended cut of Drive to Survive this year? Or does next year just start off with a bang?

Yeah, what he do?
It’s starting to sound like not much. Who knows at this point.

A few hours ago there were rumors he was being told to step down immediately.

Latest rumor on my twitter feed is this is about his aggressive management style. I mean come on.

I don't think you need an "independent" investigation for an aggressive management style - when said style led to to the last two world championships.

If I had to guess - it will be some form of sexual harassment claim. Unlikely to be serious enough to force him out, but serious enough that they do more than just dismiss it out of hand.

In my limited experience dealing with UK-based employees, UK workplace rules are more stringent than in the US. Bringing in an outside barrister could indicate something or a whole lot of nothing. All we know now is somebody leaked information about the investigation.

Some rule changes that came out today-

From Reddit-

Main takeaways are power unit allocation increased to 4 from 3. DRS will be activated one lap after a start, or restart, as opposed to two. Sprint weekends have also been reorganized as follows:

Friday: FP1, Sprint Qualifying

Saturday: Sprint Race, GP Qualifying
Sunday: Race

DRS being moved up a lap has to solely be about Max being +5 seconds by the third lap

So it seems like the cars will not be in parc ferme after the Sprint, which is nice. The setup they take to quali is the setup they'll need to stick with.

If i comprehended this correctly lol

Love all the rule changes. I work from home on Fridays so I liked having qualis then, but it was obviously kinda silly.

The other two rule changes seem designed to bring chaos, which I wholeheartedly endorse.

Well, 2024 is looking like a repeat of 2023 - at least at the top.

Verstappen will win his 4th championship.

I think Ferrari will jump Mercedes, and would not be surprised to see McLaren pass the Mercs as well.

For those who poo-poo Drive to Survive and don't watch it, you are missing out on some stellar, ground-breaking television.

Like when Lance Stroll showed up unexpectedly at the first race in Bahrain last season after breaking both his wrists and a toe, and Lando sees him for the first time and the first thing out of his mouth to Lance is, "How are you? Can you wank yet"? :lmao: :lmao::lmao:

Dead.

My 20 year old daughter loves F1, but I just can't get into it. I grew up a fan of Nascar and Indy and F1 just seems so boring.
Very little passing. What am I missing?

I just saw a highlight or Russell passing Leclerc without DRS.

I think you'll be right on all accounts though. McLaren got off to such a slow start last year.

@Payne It was mentioned just above, but watch Drive to Survive on Netflix. Its 100% the reason I got into it. I had a friend stay with us one weekend and she woke up and cooked a big breakfast and turned on the race and I was just mildly entertained. I thought it was neat how they basically raced around the world, but the race wasn't that interesting to me. She suggested the show and the rest was history. Once you get to know the drivers and guys calling the shots on the teams it really does turn into something you can get behind.

I've watched most of the races the last 2 seasons and some are painfully boring. Max being elite has a lot to do with that right now. There was a slight rule change that might help with that this upcoming season. But some races are great. It reminds me of watching soccer sometimes. It can be 45 minutes of absolutely nothing, then 10 minutes of pure chaos.

The best part, IMO...most races come on at like 8am Sunday morning. I get up and have myself a time. I love it.

And being commercial free is a really nice bonus.

Pouring one out for Mother's Car Polish who sponsored the US broadcasts for the past five years. Their contract expired at the end of last season.

I assume the new sponsor(s) will be more intrusive because that's just how things go these days.

I prefer the F1TV subscription to watching ESPN/Sky coverage.
I’ve been considering the F1 tv subscription. It’s cheap. What else do they show though? I feel like I get everything from ESPN.

Not a ton else - a weekly "technical" series about upgrades, and parts. Pre-race preview show, post-race wrap up.

I originally got it to watch pre-season testing - and then just decided I liked the commentary team a little better than Crofty and Brundle. I really enjoy Sam Collins' as their tech guy, and Laura Winter has really grown as a presenter for the pre and post-race shows.

Wait a second, I do recall a feature F1 has that is not on ESPN, as far as I know - you can choose the camera from any car on the circuit at any time - if you want. I don't use that too often, but it is nice. The other features is a driver tracker - where you can see the location of all the cars on the track layout - again rare that I use, but can be interesting. There is also a Data Screen - which I don't think I have ever used, but just pulled it up on an old race, and it was kind of neat - but it tracks everything - driver position, gap to the leader, gap to the next car, tire type, and laps on tire - lot of detail.

All of these options are on different tabs, so switching is pretty seamless, and if you really enjoy the Sky feed - that is also available on F1TV as another tab.

Was pleasantly surprised when i logged into espn that there was a few 6+ hours of F1 testing on there. Ferrari sure do seem to have made the right moves, that car looks very good.

The lower F1TV tier gives you access to the archive of old races. They're maddeningly spotty for pre-2000 stuff but the quality of what they have is generally better than what you can find on YouTube.

You also get coverage of Formula 2, Formula 3 and F1 Academy although these are also available with ESPN+.

Christian Horner cleared after investigation, will be in Bahrain with Red Bull this weekend.

Toto and Lewis immediately blame Michael Masi.

The first two races of the season are scheduled for back-to-back Saturdays to avoid a conflict with the beginning of Ramadan next Sunday.

The first two practice sessions take place tomorrow morning US time.

This is my annual plug for Formula 2. The season starts this weekend with a pair of races in Bahrain. F2 is a spec series with engines producing around 600 HP.

The race weekends are Saturday-Sunday doubleheaders of short races. A tire change is required in the Sunday race but not in the shorter sprint on Saturdays. The top ten qualifiers start in inverted order in the sprint race. In spite of the identical cars, there's usually a large talent differences between F1 Junior team prodigies and wankers with rich fathers so there's more unpredictability and crazier action than happens in F1.

17 year old Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli is the most hyped young driver since Max Verstappen. Antonelli is a rookie in F2 this year after bypassing the usual ladder through Formula 3. Returning drivers Oliver Bearman and Victor Martins are also potential future F1 candidates. There's an all-American driver pairing this year with Jak Crawford and Juan-Manuel Correa driving for the French DAMS team. Crawford was recently dropped as a Red Bull academy driver and needs a strong season to get back on the radar of F1 teams. Correa has made a comeback from injuries suffered in the crash that killed Anthoine Hubert at Spa five years ago.

1. Number of races (out of 24) that Verstappen wins - 16. Everything went right for Red Bull last year. Some regression this year with an engine issue, getting caught up in a collision, running over a drain cover, something.
2. Top five in drivers championship - Max, Charles, Sergio, Carlos, George
3. Top three in constructors championship - Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes
4. Last place in constructors championship - Haas
5. Will there be a first time GP winner (sprint races don't count so Piastri is eligible) - Yes. Lando.
6. Any other fearless random predictions - A) Lando has an out in his McLaren deal and takes Sergio's RB seat after the season.
B) Ricciardo gets a podium

I have to think McLaren's contracts are pretty tight after dealing with the Piastri and Palou situations in the past two silly seasons. If there's an out, it would likely be tied to deficiencies in car performance which isn't consistent with Lando winning a race in 2024.

2) Max, Checo, Sainz, Lando, and LeClair.
3) RB, Ferrari, Maclaren
4) Haase
5)no
6) Lewis exits the car mid race on a front wing change at Silverstone and just quits.

I agree with @Skipdog77 , hope for some regression and the field improving.

I think regression is less of a thing in F1 than in other sports. Success in stick and ball sports is ultimately dependent on the variability of human performance. There's some of that in F1 but the balance is made up of technological factors. When a team has a well functioning design, it's easier to optimize that than it is for another team to develop a car with fundamental design issues. A mid-season leap like McLaren made last year is pretty rare. I guess we'll know a lot more after Bahrain and Jeddah.

I probably didn't word it well, but when I used "regression", I was more talking about things like parts failure, collisions, just bad luck in general. Max had absolutely zero of that last year, which is incredible. Even when he did make contact with other cars a couple of times, it seemed like he didn't take on any significant damage.

Can't see that happening two years in a row (and I am a Max and RB fan).

I agree, just having a bit of fun with those. But with how much Zak Brown hates Christian Horner, how entertaining would that switch be? 😆

FP1 was surprisingly close amongst Red Bulls, Mercedes and Ferrari. FP2 will be more indicative of qualifying pace.

McLarens look a half-step closer, and locked into a battle with the Baby RBs - which will be good for TV with Zak Brown already chirping about the collaboration between the RB teams.

Haas were in a league to themselves - literally and figuratively - looked like they were running a completely different FP1 strategy from the other teams - so hard to say exactly where they are, but they look to be bringing up the rear.

I'll go:

1. 14
2. Max, Hamilton, Perez, Russell, Leclerc
3. Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari
4. Haas
5. Yes
6. The season will turn on Race 7/8. Red Bulls are supposedly releasing their zero-side pod concept about that time. If Newey has figured out what Mercedes could never unlock - Red Bulls will run away and hide again. But, if the concept is one that looks good in simulations, but not real life, it could set the Red Bulls back, and bring Mercedes and Ferrari into the championship fight.

It will be bad luck, a relatively bad car, and over aggressive mistakes to try and make up for the previous two.
