I'd think Thanksgiving is usually a pretty big weekend in Vegas even without the GP. If the casinos have a voice and they usually do, I'd bet against Thanksgiving.

Practice 2 interviews
Checo had setup issues, fell to P11. Merc is as lost as Round 1. Slow getting out bc they’re trying more tweaks, still can’t find balance between speed & setup. It’s riding way too stiff and they went with drastically different setups in FP2 - Lewis’ car is the guinea pig rn. They’ve got the pace and reliability per usual this year but the suspension is (again) completely effed up. Top of the midfield seems like a challenge at this point.
Active suspension isn’t walking through that door. This is the car for the rest of the year, have to make it work somehow.
Great to see Seb and Alonso with good pace - Alpine had it FP1 & FP2 st Azerbaijan as well but faded come qualifying time.
This is actually the first Friday FP Max has topped since Imola.

In spite of the late safety car and whatever drama Crofty could talk up, Verstappen never was really threatened. Another close but no cigar result for Sainz and a nice recovery drive for Leclerc but Red Bull had the red cars covered. Mercedes makes another baby step up on performance and the team just never throws away a result. It wouldn't surprise me if Russell gets his first P1 before Sainz does.
In spite of a post-race penalty on Alonso that dropped him from P7 to P9, Alpine looks like they've gained the upper hand in their midfield battle over McLaren. Good summation, thanks. Missed most of the race as I was in the ER for 6 hours today. Caught the last 15 laps - Carlos was pushing Max but he’s rarely gonna make an error in that scenario. Seems an decent weekend for Merc. They’re a long ways from challenging but starting to see progress. Impressive day for Leclerc coming from the back.

oh man. Guenther Is one of my favorite guys in the sport but what a disastrous outcome. Haven’t caught up with the full highlights or post race but good to see Lewis on podium. Looking forward to Silverstone and maybe some incremental progress.

The stewards' call on the broken wing was pretty picayune but the FIA has been saying they're going to stick to the letter of the rules this year. We'll see what happens if similar damage happens to a Red Bull or Mercedes.
It's hard to tell a racer not to race but Magnussen's race wasn't going to be against Hamilton anyway. KMag could have given up the position and gotten on with it but Haas would have still managed to screw up strategy in the end. For some reason they didn't pit during the safety car leaving KMag to race to the finish on 63 lap old hards against cars with fresh rubber.

So, I've been hooked on F1 for a few years now. I paid for a month of Peacock to watch the Indy 500, here in Indy, I just didn't feel like going this year. Anyway, it was awful. It was supposed to be ad free, and it was, but instead of ads it was just blank air time where there would normally be ads. It's like "oh ffs. . .COME ON!!!"
My point to this rant is that I too share your concern and, instead, I would pay good money to be able to continue to watch the F1 races the way it is now. How much? I don't know but I can't stand the thought of interruptions like the way NBC does with the Indy 500. I don't watch any other non-F1 races aside from the 500 so I don't know what those races are like but it's really, really hard to get into the 500 with the constant interruptions. When NBC would do the "side by side" I'm totally fine with that, to me, that's a good compromise but most of the time, it's a complete interruption for a few minutes and the next few minutes you're playing catchup during the live race. It's really awful and I hate that, it makes it pretty much unwatchable to me.

They have content going back to the 1970s that's better quality than the historical stuff you can find on YouTube or Vimeo. Nobody needs another streaming service but I probably watch more F1 TV than I do Netflix in a given month.Commercial breaks on Indycar and NASCAR races are annoying but I guess it pays the bills. At least they recap what happened during the break when they return. I remember the first F1 race on the current ESPN deal included commercial breaks and it was terrible because the Sky Sports announcers obviously had no idea that viewers in the USA had missed the last 2 1/2 minutes of action.
The Peacock Indycar feed is actually worse than the broadcasts on NBC and USA because they don't go side-by-side on network breaks. Local breaks are full screen ads on both. I've read that they have to show ads on Peacock to have the streaming numbers included in ratings.

The circus moves to mighty Silverstone this weekend for the first of a back to back. Britain and Austria are two of my favorite events of the year.
Ferrari is bringing an upgraded wing that they hope reduces their top-end speed deficit to Red Bull. The Scuderia needs a big weekend to close the gap to RBR. Silverstone's smooth surface should be a relief to Mercedes and their drivers. Aston Martin has another update and supposedly Williams have reduced enough weight to be able to use ballast up to the minimum for the first time this season. Only Albon gets the new car this weekend though.
The race weekend returns to normal qualifying after the sprint race last year. A chance of rain on Friday but nothing in the forecast for qualifying and the race.

It's tough to get much of a read from Friday practice times. FP1 was pretty much of a washout on a damp and greasy track. FP2 was clear conditions with four different teams clocking laps within 0.2 sec (FER, RBR, MCL, MER). The fast times were all done on the softs which probably won't be used on race day.

The usual suspects are all up front in spite of the wet qualifying session. Red Bull was fastest in the dry during P3 by a fair margin so Ferrari and Mercedes have their work cut out for them. It should be a one stopper on mediums and hards but a late safety car could change strategy because everybody has tons of tires available due to the rain.
Good result from Latifi although he benefited from getting his lap in early during changing conditions in Q2. He was 7/10s slower than Albon in P3 so Nicky will probably fall back by the first pit stop. The Aston Martin doesn't seem to work at all in the wet for some reason.
Midfield times were very tight in P3 so the battle for the final few points position may be better than the race up front.

F1 flexi-floor exploit revelations a "shocker", says Mercedes
The current regulations stipulate a maximum deflection of 2mm at the two middle plank holes and no more than 2mm at its rearmost hole in a bid to ensure that the floor is stiff enough.
However, there were claims some teams have managed to cleverly flex the floors by as much as 6mm in total, which would allow them to run with higher rake and much closer to the ground for increased performance without the risk of suffering the ill effects of ground strikes.

Exciting racing today the lsst 7-8 laps after the safety car came off. Hats off to Sainz with his 1st win in race #151.
Dunno what was going on with Lewis’ tyre temps in that restart. Should have been an opportunity for the win but he had nothing. Still, good result and a new record for most podiums (13) at the same GP.

Watching those top 5 or 6 battle after that last restart was awesome. So fun to watch.
Also glad that Zhou was ok. The upside down slide was scary enough, but the flip of the car OVER the tire barrier made me fear the worst. Great job to the engineers who not only designed the halo, but also to those who designed the catch fence to protect the spectators.

loved that when the race engineer told Sainz to give Charles (on old hards) a 10 car length cushion - max legal restart - Carlos was like (paraphrasing) “they’re going to be aggressive behind me, let’s just race.” earlier he gave way to Leclerc but glad he pushed back on team orders and said I can get this done.

The "Dad" talk that Mattia gave Leclerc after the race in the paddock with the finger wagging was kind of amusing. He knew Charles would be upset, but it was like he was telling him be happy for Carlos for his first win, we (Ferrari) still got the win and finished with the most constructor points on the day...don't be a baby and whine to the media

The Ferrari team debrief should be almost as much fun as Alpha Tauri's. It was Leclerc's race to win but the Scuderia was slow on the call. If they'd been able to box Leclerc, Sainz' race would have been ruined because there wasn't enough of a gap to double stack them. In spite of the damage he was carrying, Charles had been faster on the hards and was able to pull away from Sainz after they exchanged positions.
Good timing on the safety car for Perez and (I think) Vettel. Sky didn't spend much time on the midfield battle at all although it looked to be mostly a DRS train behind Ocon and Latifi. I have no idea what happened to Ricciardo's race this time but it was another forgettable weekend for him.
Classy move by Russell to get out of his car to check on Zhou. I don't know what he'd be able to do but he always comes across as a decent bloke.

Agree, the only way Sainz had a chance there was because the team didn't box LeClerc to change tires. Have they given a reason for that yet?
Footage of that synchronized Alpha Tauri spin will be part of F1 racing montages for years to come.

Ferrari had time to box Leclerc but they intentionally left him out there because their models put them beyond the window where the strategy would be advantageous. It makes me wonder if anyone was paying attention to how much trouble everyone was having lighting up the hard tires yesterday (or had ever watched Abu Dhabi 2021 to the end).

Seems like Binotto has the temperament that would be better suited as Technical Director than Team Principal. They mess up strategy all the time. Leclerc has the pace and speed for 15 wins (currently at 4 P1 and 17 poles.) Of course reliability has also been terrible this year.
Even harder to figure out for me is their mentality/vision. “We’re not fighting for WDC in 2022.” You’re second in Constructors and you have 11 podiums. They had RBR on the ropes coming out if the gate. Strange organization.

Current attendance record for the Red Bull Ring is 220,000 in 2014. It is expected to be more than 300,000 this year. Pretty crazy.

I've never been to a race on a street circuit but most views from the grandstands look limited at best. If you're lucky, there's a video screen within sight.

- The Red Bull Ring in Austria is a short and sharp rollercoaster with just 10 corners and constant elevation changes. Pirelli brings the three softest tyres in the range: C3 as the P Zero White hard, C4 as the P Zero Yellow medium, and C5 as the P Zero Red soft.
- Last year there were two races at the Red Bull Ring held back-to-back: this weekend is the same tyre nomination as the second race there, designed to help put on a show by increasing degradation and creating more overtaking opportunities. On that occasion, the winning strategy was a two-stopper: one opening stint on the medium, followed by two hard tyre stints. Of course, the compounds and structures are different this year.
- Austria is also home to the second sprint weekend of the season, after Imola. As a reminder, rather than having 13 sets of tyres for a conventional weekend, there will be just 12 sets. These consist of two sets of hard, four sets of medium, and six sets of soft. In addition, the teams will have up to six sets of Cinturato Green intermediates and three sets of Cinturato Blue full wets available in case of wet weather – which is very possible in the Styrian hills.
- Alpine, McLaren, Red Bull and Williams will stay on after the Austrian Grand Prix as part of Pirelli’s testing programme for next year’s tyres. McLaren and Williams will test for two days, with the other two teams putting in one day each.
