It's the right call, surprised it took FIA so long. Wait, no I'm not.Perez moved back to 13th after his Q3 laps were thrown out because of a track limits violation in Q2.

That will make for a less than scintillating race. It will be like hockey waiting for every goal scored to be called back for something trivial.I'm predicting track limit penalties will have a significant impact on the GP results. Everybody has to go through the final corner 71 times and race control is watching like a hawk.
that was a little scary - one marshal set his extinguisher down & ran back, the other guy isn’t putting out the (spreading) fire bc he’s trying to get a wedge block under the wheel, Carlos can’t turn the wheel so it’ll back into the wall bc he’s the wheel has been released & he wants to get out, when he starts to get out (releasing the foot brake) the car down the hillEngine explode and extinguish
MSC got driver of the day, P6, double points, Steinercraft just grew a couple meters
apparently I’m in the minority but I didn’t think George was at fault there it’s Turn 4 at RBR so Merc’s at fault. His right side was at the apex and Sergio turned into.I guess you can't give it to Russell after he ruined Checo's race but he had an impressive drive up to P4 from P19 after his first stop, penalty and wing change.

Would never happen bc of it’s romanticized standing but the drop that would make sense is Monaco. It’s the worst circuit (by far) and it’s absurd they control their own cameras. But there’s probably hidden power dynamics there that ensure it’s entrenchment.Kyalami is a great track. We'll see about Vegas.
Spa is a huge loss although it's not a great circuit for the current cars. Le Castellet is a go kart track.
American driver Logan Sargeant won his second consecutive Formula 2 feature race yesterday and has climbed to second in the driver's points standings. If he holds that position, he'll have more than enough FIA superlicense points to qualify to race in F1.
Sargeant is a Williams affiliated driver which should have an open seat next year after Latifi's contract expires. It's been rumored that Oscar Piastri will be loaned from Alpine to Williams next year but stranger things have happened than a team's academy driver getting promoted.
Sargeant actually finished 4th on the track in Austria but all three drivers in the podium positions got knocked down due to penalties.

Toby2ElectricBugaloo said:Colton Herta also getting a two-day test with McLaren in Portugal, presumably in advance of an FP session later this season.
Seems increasingly likely that there will be an American on the grid in 2024, maybe earlier if Williams decides they don't need Latifi's money any more or if Ricciardo retires with a year left on his deal.
Herta ran nearly 500 test miles over two days in last year's McLaren. He's had an inconsistent season in Indycar so far and isn't likely to accumulate enough superlicense points to be eligible to race F1 in 2023. If he really blows McLaren away with his test performance, it's possible he could run over the winter in Asian F3 to gain more points but that's kind of a Hail Mary scenario.
Michael Andretti's F1 bid appears to be a non-starter.
And I'm figuring if there's only one Williams seat open for 2023 it would presumably go to Piastri. Plus Danny Ric has a deal through next season, and any arguments about the appeal of an American for marketing purposes would certainly apply to him as well. 2024 season seems like the earliest reasonable target.
It's pretty certain that this is Latifi's last season in F1. The Piastri loan to Williams has been rumored for months. I question the wisdom of a rebuilding team to focus on a guy who's certain to leave for Alpine in a year or two but it's hard to be strategic when you have the worst car on the grid.
Vettel and Ricciardo are the other silly season dominoes. Alonso hasn't been confirmed at Alpine either Yuki isn't on solid ground but the Red Bull juniors haven't been impressive this year.

It is weird that just when Checo was looking like a contender, they pulled the rug out from under him (imo). I can't help but think conspiracy! And I HATE conspiracy theories. No major surprises in Friday practice. Ferrari and Red Bull remain securely on top with the only story being the growing gap between Max and Perez but that will be mitigated this week by Sainz starting in the back. Mercedes is further back from the top two than they were at Silverstone and Austria.
Alpha Tauri's updates have moved them forward a bit. McLaren is faster than Alpine so far in the battle for 4th. Haas is expecting their first upgrade of the season but not until next week in Hungary.
Le Castellet is a very bland circuit, especially the meandering first sector. You'd think the birthplace of motor racing would have a decent F1 track somewhere in the country.
This story is dead and gone, everyone has (correctly) moved on. But watching Max arrive at the paddock with his long time girlfriend, Brazilian model Kelly Piquet. **record scratch** Whoah OK that’s a not insignificant tidbit. No wonder Max took the awkward “wrong thing to say but Nelson’s not a racist” line of defense. It’s an archaic term only dinosaurs still use. Have talked to a couple Brazilian friends who tell me there’s no other way to interpret it other than a derogatory slur. Simultaneously, old timers shrug and say “what? I’ve used it all my life.”
The literal translation of o neguinho is little black guy but “little n****r” isn’t a stretch by any means. It has a history of usage tied to the slave trade.
Piquet has been using homophobic slurs to describe Senna as gay for 30+ years. He’s a world class jerk.
Confirmed. My wife is Brazilian.
Lewis Hamilton's P2 is the best placement of any driver after or on their 300th race.
(yep...six guys over 300 starts, none of them ever won after they hit that number)
Anyway, sorry Lewis, you'll never washed and will never win again.
- Kimi Räikkönen 349
- Fernando Alonso 345 (will surpass Kimi at Singapore)
- Rubens Barrichello 323
- MIchael Schumacher 306 (some have 308 entries and 307 starts....I seem to recall a race lost by a stewards decision after the race...wondering why the discrepancy between sources.)
- Jenson Button 306
- Sir Lewis 300

Hoping they design a better car next year. I think he still has the desire and will see it through the end of this cycle (2025) before the new chassis regulations and next generation of power units.

box Carlos boxtheir ineptitude is mindboggling...
they seemingly can't get out of their own way making in the heat of the moment strategic decisions.
box Carlos box
NOT NOW
If they were going to box they needed to do it 5+ laps sooner so he had enough remaining laps to move up to podium. He was the fastest car on the track.they're post race reports reek of CYA. Do they really think they have a shot at the constructors?
Maybe it's me but I think I'd keep him out and shoot for a podium in that instance.
If Charles Leclerc and Ferrari fail to win the 2022 Championship, it will be the first time the team that achieved a 1-2 in the first race was unable to win the championship since 2010. The team in 2010? Ferrari.
